I just came across your video review. It's been 4 years now since you published your review and I was curious if your recorder is still working well.

It is not unfortunately. At some point it acted buggy (audio would cut in and out) and then completely died. I now have a Tascam DR-05 that works rather well

It records in stereo via the 3 conductors in the mic jack. Be sure to set the input mode to line in so you don't risk clipping.

That didn't sound bad at all, that mic. It seemed to have a high pitched ring, but that may have just been me.

Good question... I have no clue, though you can whack some nimhs in there if that is important. The batteries last a long time though. Considering its USB interface, it puzzles me why they did not go the li-ion route, they're pretty cheap these days.

Maybe your flash memory inside is eroding away, this can cause such issues (decreasing storage space despite usage being less). Best course of action is to buy a micro SD for it, or just buy a Tascam dr-05, my new recommendation. Make sure that when you delete files they're actually deleting, and not just going into a trash folder. Consider formatting/initializing the storage

I am looking for a recorder for mettings but so far everyone is reviewing the PX-470 in the upclose & personal mode. And another thing the reviewers I have watched have rarely played back the recording. I don't have a laptop and on my desktop all my USB ports are up off the counter. So is this a good buy for me?

Yes. I had mine on the lowest sensitivity. It is well suited to conferences at the other sensitivities. And it does not matter if you have a laptop or desktop. The usb extension is strong enough to hang like a flash drive, so it will definitely work for your scenario.

I learned some on how to use the ICD-PX470, more than just how to open a box, which others folks seem to think we need to know. However, I am an old lady, and need more understanding on the different features and how to master the entire ICD-PX470. If you please, can you head me in the direction that shows a person actually using the ICD-PX470 not only the Help Guide.

Adjust sensitivity to until it sounds good. You can actually monitor your mic using the headphone jack

What is the adapter that is needed for the mic they included. I have a similar package and when I plug in the lav mic I do not get any sound. When I plug the same lav mic into my smartphone it works. Can you please link the adapter that is needed?

Only if there's noise in the original recording. Not sure what you're getting at here

@@meercreate I mean the white noise that comes from the amplifier in the recorder. This noise is usually heard in the pauses between tracks. I want to use recorder as mp3 player, so the sound quality in the headphones is important to me. I have an Olympus voice recorder and this noise is clearly audible.

Wait a few seconds before stopping. Then edit the click out using audacity (free!) by highlighting it then deleting.

I bought Sony ICD-PX 470. The recorder works like a charm. The sound quality is very clear! I can't say enough nice things about this small recorder. It is easy to use. It gives very clear crisp recordings and picks up sounds in its neighbourhood easily. More than happy with the quality.

Yes. Make sure you have the sensitivity set appropriately, I recommend auto for this purpose

I don't know anything about zoom products. I would recommend the px-470 for price and simplicity. The mic is really sensitive, great for what you're doing, and is its intended purpose

I just bought one of these in a southern hemisphere country, same model (ICD-PX470) - it only came with 2 AAA Sony batteries (non-rechargeable), and nothing else/no microphone. I'm having real problems with re-setting the date. I started using it a month ago, in November, and I changed the settings to the correct date. But it's now December and I can only find one file that has a December date on it, and it appears to have then reverted back to November for all subsequent December recordings. I keep going in and changing '11' (November) to '12' (December), but then when I record, the recording date shows as correct day of the month, but NOVEMBER not DECEMBER. And when I go back into settings, it's on November ('11'). Am I missing a step here, maybe I'm supposed to click on something after I change '11' to '12'? I've done over a hundred recordings now, so this is problematic as I'll have to sort out which recordings are actually from November, and which should be December!!

Did you try removing the batteries, waiting a few minutes, then putting them back in, it can fix some glitches like this
