I come back in a year and what do I see? You are killing it man! Keep it up, I love you. Your recommendation of the Sangean portable radio you made to me so long ago seriously changed my life for the better. I also own the Tecsun R9012 which you recommended as well and is also very good.

Wow! I thought WCBS was WLS at first. That was strong. I’m glad you featured this radio again. I love the look of it.

Seen a pretty significant surge of listeners on the shortwave reddit over the last 2 months, went from 7k to 9k so there is definitely a newfound interest in DXing these days which is nice to see.

Your band scans are so addicting to watch. After watching I pick up one of my radios for a session. I am envious of the multitudes of stations that you find at your location. Todderbert, radio on...

Rock on Gary! Hope you find some elusive stations out there.

This radio is legendary. I bought one in early-2017 right before they became scarce & prices sky-rocketed. Unfortunately I returned mine as I had a mysterious "hiss" right in the middle of the AM Band. In retrospect, I wish I had kept mine at least a bit longer to try to troubleshoot/identify the issue. After I returned it, I bought a Sangean PR-D15. It, too has a 200mm ferrite rod antenna. I've been very happy with it - I feel it's AM Dx capability **cannot be beaten at its price point** (I paid $76.95). Plus the digital display makes identifying stations a quick proposition.

Thanks Todd, it really is amazing how this unique radio works, every time I use mine I'm reminded what quality feels like. My only real wish would be to have a digital readout like my ICF-6500W which is analog with a frequency counter.

The large area on the front with all the writing is NOT shortwave, it is a list of all the medium-wave stations in Japan and Korea, including "AFN" which stands for Armed Forces Network, operated by the US Army. The Nikkei shortwave stations are all FIXED, that is to say there are two of them for each of the 3, 6, and 9Mhz settings, a bit like how the US weather bands are at several fixed frequencies. Nikkei is a Japanese news network, focused on financial news.

hi, what would be the absolute best vintage sounding radio of all time made by either Sony or national Panasonic?
@todderbert2 күн бұрын
Probably the Panasonic. They made some killer sets. RF-9000 anyone? oh Sony has made a few monsters as well.

I would like you to review the radio called ICF-M780N. (Also known as ICF-M780SL) Some people say that this is better than the ICF-EX5MK2. I would like to hear your opinion on whether that is true. Comments from Japan
@troyvalentinoriedel3 жыл бұрын
I think the ICF-M780N is the domestic Japan version as the buttons are labeled in Japanese ... I know the M780SL was/is available in the UK/EU and the buttons are labeled in English so this must be the export version (the SL carries the "meets ecodesign requirements for external power supplies in accordance with the COMMISSION REGULATION of the EU"). I have never seen this available for sale in the USA. I'm not 100% sure, but my hypothesis fits re: the domestic versus export version. There is a user video-review of this posted at the SWLing Post Blog dated March 11, 2018.

@@troyvalentinoriedel Thanks for your comment. I read the SWLingPost Blog. It's a very interesting opinion. ICF-EX5MK2 owned by todderbert is the Japanese version. Therefore, I thought that I might also have ICF-M780N or ICF-M780SL. Even if you don't have it, you will be interested in it, and I hope that todderbert will own it someday. I have both ICF-M780N and ICF-M780SL. I had an ICF-EX5 (not MK2) in the past, but I don't have it now. So I can't compare. I also want to know the performance of the ICF-M780 series in the United States. I would like all radio lovers to know the performance of Sony's modern radio. Since the ICF-M780 series is a DSP radio, it may be wrong to compare it with the ICF-EX5, but some people in Japan say that it is a successor.

@@josephbarreira2551 Sounds good! Enjoy the radio. I'm sad because there aren't many pure analog radios these days.

@@japanradio290 Even though I haven’t really tested them seriously I actually think the original Ex5 does slightly better on raw reception. I use my radios outdoors mostly ince the weather is nicer.Thanks.

is it true that true analog radios do not have internal noise?
@todderbert2 күн бұрын
Most analog radios don't have to worry about internal RFI. If poorly tuned you may get some imaging.

I'm not sure of the RFI that your Light will Produce, but a highly selective radio such as a Sangean PR-D15 would ideal.
