The problem with some radios is the dirty potentiometer, you can put a very tiny drop of lubricant / anti rust spray / isopropyl alcohol carefully on either side of the SSB tuning wheel and keep turning the wheel, once the pot is lubricated it works like magic. But you may have to do it once a month to keep it from going back to Square one. If you can't do it yourself then ask any technical guy to open the radio and get the potentiometer cleaned up.
