You make a clear point on the vent holes which are quite noisy in the wind. Sony did not think about people wearing the MDR1 while bycycling, I think! I covered the vent holes with a tiny peace of plaster (like you use when you cut your finger e.g.) of the type of air transparent. (sorry for my English!). It works great: the base tones are not affected (they can flow out freely) and the wind noise is over!

Tyll....I am just curious on this review and the Logitech UE6000 and the UE9000 it seems you retired both f them and replaced them with the Sony MDR1 line...But comparing them myself the build and sound quality exceeds all the Sony MDR1 line up...are you sure you are not in bias favor over the sony when compared to the logitech? Please clarify on the why the sound on the sony are much better than the logitech.The sony ones sounds grainy and the bass is slightly lose on the MDR1RBT

For under $600: Closed back recommendations would be Sennheiser Momentum, Denon D2000/5000 (if you can find one), MrSpeakers Mad Dog (modded T50RP), and SoundMAGIC HP100. Open back recommendations would be Sennheiser HD600/650, Beyerdynamic DT880/990, HifiMAN HE-400, and used HifiMAN HE-500 (my favorite). I own all of these at the moment (except I sold the D2000 and bought the D5000). I can recommend all of them, but it really depends on your tastes since sound is so subjective.

I'm joining the question. Thinking about 1RBT but UE9000 has apt-X support. Does it make difference at all though? And what about comfort difference? I tried 1RNC at local store and they are sitting good. Can't find UE9000 anywhere to test.

If I simply used the Bluetooth version plugged in with the wire, would the sound differ any from the normal 1R?
@GofreMcNoodle11 жыл бұрын
I used both alongside each other and found that there wasn't much in it. Quite a similar sound signature and about evenly matched in terms of soundstage, detail retrieval etc. I came away thinking the UE6000s were a much better buy, but that was when the 1Rs were at their full £279 RRP, so over £100 more than the UE6000s. If there's not much in it price-wise where you are, it could be worth listening to both and making your own decision.

InnerFidelity - I'm looking for some of the best sounding headphones I can get for under $600. What would you say are best, for mere sound quality? Noise cancelling would also be a bonus! Atm I'm thinking about these MDR-1RNC, or the Bose QC 15 (which is better for sound quality ignoring everything else)? Thanks!

Thanks for the review. I have been looking for a review on the BT version vs the momentum. I still find the 1RBT tempting just because of the wireless capability.

so, from your website, you liked the sony mdr-1rbt better than the logitech ue 9000?? cause I looking at these 2 and I dont know which I would choose.....can you do a comparison or at least reply me? :)
@potatoheadhaoy11 жыл бұрын
I personally like the K-550 because of the sheer openness and unbelievable imaging, but the highs kind of get to your ears after a while. Also, I wouldn't say they do so well in the lows (as in, a bit weak for my taste). Realistically, I'd probably enjoy my music a lot more with the 1R. They're also insanely comfortable and good-looking. I probably wouldn't have gone with the Momentums if I didn't have small ears, since a good seal is always necessary to achieve the best SQ.

I have tried a few before and loved them because you can really walk around and not be bothered by cables but I already have the Momentum as my on the go headphones. Really finding it hard to decide whether to transfer to the mdr 1rbt or just stay with my momentum. The only reason I would switch to the 1rbt is for the wireless capability and comfort but for sound the Momentum wins hands down over the 1r in my ears.

The sound wireless and wired is pretty similar, I cannot find any difference. The MDR-1r should be sounding better and more neutral. The MDR-1R has a pretty high bass boost and a missing frequency about 300Hz. So yes, the sound differs a lot.

Depends on your choices in music. But definitely in comfort, the MDR-1R is better than the Momentums. The MDRs are much more bassy and have a bigger range than the Momentums. To be completely honest, the MDRs are better.

I tried it once in an expo, it really does looks good and fashionable. Some people got issue about clacking parts, but I didn't feel it at all. In term of sound, this one is fun to hear. I always feel that Sony always emphasize the treble but in this phone doesn't done quite well (for the price tag of course) I can't tell much about the sound because of the noisy environment. The noise isolation I think number 3rd after Crossfade M100 and Sennheiser Momentum. In terms of comfort, my ears are small but it extrude outside so when I use this phone, even that you find that these headphone have and angled driver, my ears still touching it and it is the biggest concern because I have HD429 which is happen the same and it doesn't goes so well with longer listening session.

Sony's noise cancelling headphones across the board generally leave something to be desired. I picked up a pair of mdr-NC200D's and the sound, which was tepid to begin with, seems to distort at high volumes. The noise cancelling is competent, but it could be better. I've seen issues like these consistently with their NC headphones. It should be noted however that due to the size of the distributor, you can often find their wares at very reasonable prices. I got the MDR-NC200D's at $40 :)

I have both momentum and 1RBT and the songs are better, momentums are good, but can be kind of small on the ear, they don't have enough deep base compared to the songs, the songs are by far deeper and clearer. As for comfort the sonys are better, I wore them,on many 8 hr flights and they were no issue at all, why would you buy the BT well I use them for walking the DOG you can use them for answering calls and advancing songs etc, which I dont think you can do with the normal model.

Very briefly, for about 15 minutes. When I was buying I first looked at the audio technca as the ones I would get. And for good reason, they sound VERY good for the price. However they do not sound quite as good as the momentums. The senns have a more balanced tone and really are very good (see tyles review). The technicas are more base heavy but the base is good quality still, but towards the higher end things can sound abit harsh. Got the money? get the momentums. But the technicas are V.good
