@TechGuyCharlie5 жыл бұрын
Yess, you are so right, not only that but these older systems sound better even though the wattage is less, the other day I was at the shop listening to the new Sony tower Hifi stereo and even though it has higher power than this, the sound quality was no where near this old system and bass was average even when you turn on EQ, oh yeah and the lights look so cool especially the old school Vacuum Fluorescent Displays (VFD) sadly not only Sony but all brands have ditched the VFDs for a tiny LED display which just shows the name of the song. I also have a system that is older than I am lol, it's an Aiwa, might do a video about it. :D

HI charlie. i bought this system way back in 1999, its release year and still own it. Its a marvel from sony. 3 years ago i bought pioneer 5.1 speakers and i took this system to the store to check the new speakers with this and believe me it rocked the place. I tried the speakers with some latest systems from other compaies and to my and the storekeepers surprise this system beat all the new systems available in the store. Its sound quality is crystal clear. If you have it then you are lucky. The only thing that has gone wrong in my system with the time is that the equalizer switch is not working. So i have to compromise with the equaiser in my music app. Wish someone could repair it as its quite an old model. Enjoy it.

I got the sony dhc-mdx10 that is pretty damn similar. Everything belt-driven broke. It's because of the way rubber ages. Other than that the minidisc part of it works amazing! Couldn't find any modern equipment that sounds better than this thing (well there is some hifi but you can't quite compare). Somehow that cd noise stops after 5 seconds in mine. I'm so lucky x'D

I have the exact same system. Even had several MD walkmans, they were a blast in times ob 512 MB flash MP3 players 15 years ago... The sound of this system today is still unmatched by any kind of modern mainstream consumer HIFI I personally came across. I had the belt drives serviced, because I had a similar issue with the CD exchange mechanism fixed. Now I'm having some issue with power on sequence, because it always starts in demo mode, and my jog dial is a little unresponsive. But audio still blows me away everytime I crank it up...

I had 4 Sony Hi-fi's back in the late 90s and till this year 2024, my Sony W777AV still sounds amazing, until one day, just last week, the sound disappeared after not playing with it in 2 weeks. But last month, it was still working fine! It was a sad day for me, I was so affected I can't sleep at night, call me what you wanna call me, but it was so sad that the day has come that it stopped working on me. It still got power and input, but no sound. I'm gonna go get it checked by a qualified tech asap if time permits. It has been with me since like 20 plus long years! I have the newer Sony V43D one box audio Karaoke system but I love the W777AV better, I just love the way it sounds, more clearer, crisper and I love the thumping bass!
@TechGuyCharlie2 ай бұрын
I never really liked the newer tower systems, although they are fantastic for Karaoke parties you just don't get the stereo separation and richness of sound as you do on these dual speaker systems, but who knows, might have to upgrade once mine fails. Nice video Charlie! I have an RX110AV, which is simillar to this, they are +- from the same year. The sound quality is very good, but i think that somehow it lacks the low frequencies. Maybe its because i have an Aiwa too, which has built in subwoofers, and the sound is more "massive" i would say, so Im used to that sound. Im not saying that Sony isnt good, they are just different. Maybe I get an active sub to reinforce the low-ends on the Sony. Well see. Thumb up for videos like this, it reminds me the good old days :)
