Thank you! It really is a beautiful piece of engineering. I'd love to get working one at some point... I will take this one apart again and test the power-related components to see if I can get any signs of life!

I was stressed all along watching you working on this amazing piece of tech. I wish Sony made these again. Great video, Thank you. Did you finally find a working one ?

@Vince26010 hello and thanks for watching! Unfortunately not - I'm glad I got the remote with this one, so I'll keep my eye out for another donor unit or try some other troubleshooting with this one when I find more time...

You should have downloaded the repair guide from Sony, which makes the removal of the battery a lot easier

I have seen it - when you try it - it's quite stuck in there and I didn't want to risk damage anything on this very fragile device. I have seen a new way to do it and will attempt to video that soon, too!

@@TechnicalInitiative BTW you can hardly find any proper info on the size and the difference of those lithium battery... Lip 4wm, lip 3dw? The Panasonic one.. Could you compare them

The battery can be replaced just by removing the screw by the battery door, as the locking plate can be lifted with the lid open. The battery just slides out. Unless the battery is swollen, as they do sometimes with age, then you'd probably have to go through all this.

I would love for you to show me a video of this - I've tried that - there's a plastic plate and the power circuit board there. I know what the Sony illustration looks like, but it's not actually that easy. Were you able to do it yourself?

Price will vary but many are sold cheaply since they usually can't test them anymore

Incredible player but the decision to add a proprietary headphone plug … man what a bad move

I know, right? In the "quest for thinness" I'm sure they still could have fit a proper headphone jack (similar to today's phones and tablets...)
