I had replaced new gear for my model 701 silver color. but still got ERRORa. also I never hear the minidisc spin inside when testing. also do the same thing for my model 722 and worked.
@TechnicalInitiative2 күн бұрын
50% isn't bad! If you don't hear any motor spinning at all, then there's another problem. If the motor is getting power, it could be seized. Sometimes they can be forced to move to loosen them after all these years, or you could open the motor cover and add some lube.

03:05Just curious.. It appears that you can read all the Japanese descriptions on the labels. Is that true ?
@TechnicalInitiative4 күн бұрын
Oh no but I've learned some of the common stuff relevant here like working/not-working, "no power", etc. For anything complicated (or hand-written), I'm relying on Google Translate. I still have a lot more Japanese to learn!

Is it working out OK? I can't remember who made the suggestion, but I'm happy to add it in the future if it's conflicting with any voiceover
@cladingreen4 күн бұрын
@@TechnicalInitiative Yes it sounds great with the voiceover sounding good. The music makes the video more relaxing and gives an additional positive vibe. Yes do add it in the future. Be well.

Wish you would consider making a video a to z how to build batteries for the NH1 and RH1 including battery selection and 3d printing. It's a big project, but very interesting nonetheless.
@TechnicalInitiative5 күн бұрын
You apparently are psychic - I started recording this exact project before I left the states. I have most of it together, but I need to finalize some things. It will be a "work in progress" video where I can hopefully collaborate with some 3D printer owners in the MD community to finalize it, but I believe I have the best battery specs/sizes and have tested prototypes successfully!
@al-mukhantich5 күн бұрын
@TechnicalInitiative brilliant !!! Other than a couple of online articles and a single video on KZbin reusing an old battery, there isn't much available about these batteries. Thank you! I'll keep an eye on the channel
@al-mukhantich5 күн бұрын
Small contribution: I opened one of the AliExpress batteries (35usd with shipping) to see how they managed to shove 500mha in it, found a 350 mha battery type LSA 302055 (3 x 20 x 55 mm), which I can't even find on AliExpress, and it seems they used most of the battery space to make it happen, but I think there's a better alternative, using the 402050 (420 and up to 500 mha) if we avoid printing the battery bed layer, means we will have only the edges and battery terminals, the battery will occupy most of the space inside and we can cover the whole thing with thin Kapton tape (shrink sleeve would be better but it may add thickness and make the battery difficult to insert and remove).
@TechnicalInitiative5 күн бұрын
@@al-mukhantich Thank you! I've got a great test-fit cell that's working (been using this as my daily driver in an MZ-RH1) with great battery life. Yes, I did away with the stock LIP-4WM charging circuit since these have a charging circuit of their own Will keep you posted!

@TechnicalInitiative7 күн бұрын
It really depends on the models - I don't know enough about cassette Walkmans, but there's a few in this video and maybe in one of my new 2025 videos where you can pause and see the price. I think there are some highly coveted models that can go for a lot!

I have one with the same problem, after watching your video I might try fixing it :) First I have to find a suitable belt, any recommendations on where to buy? Thanks for sharing this video!
@TechnicalInitiative13 күн бұрын
It's tricky, but doable, just go slowly! I just bought a random bag of belts on Amazon so I'd have a selection of different sizes. I think the video has an approximate measurement/size, but let me know if you don't find it!
@smk24212 күн бұрын
@@TechnicalInitiative Thanks! I have trouble making sure I order the right size belt; 20mm crosssection means 62.8mm circumference(?). Also I was wondering if I can replace the belt by taking of the front panel only, as there is no minidisc in the mechanism of my deck..
@TechnicalInitiative9 күн бұрын
It's really buried underneath the CD mech - I'm not saying it's not possible, but it'd be very difficult! Let me check out my pics again and see if that's feasible....
@Chuck0J6513 күн бұрын
Excellent video! I've used this to try and resurrect my own N10, but to no avail. I wasn't sure if you might have any information on the following error during the MO calibration test: : "138 NG 1F" . According to the manual, that code has to do with RF gain adjustment. The CD calibration test is successful. Thank you!
@TechnicalInitiative12 күн бұрын
This is the tough part without a laser power meter (which I don't have). You could adjust the values, but I wouldn't do it without something to measure what you're doing. I've heard of some people swapping different MO media until they were able to pass it so it might be worth trying other discs if you have some.

Where can we get those usb c battery adapters? Are they also compatible with other brands like Panasonic?

This specific adapter is from MDgadgetry (you can find him on Instagram or his website) and is only for this MZ-N1. He does make some adapters for other models, but I don't think Panasonic is one of them

I have a Panasonic Mr270 unit that’s NetMD-compatible, which was one of the main features I wanted in a MiniDisc player. That way, I didn’t have to deal with other methods of adding music to the MiniDisc. So far, it’s been great, so I’m pretty sure this Sony unit would be just as good. I’ve been looking around Japanese auctions to find another unit to use as a player while using my Panasonic for ripping discs. However, I don’t know if anyone else has had the same experience, but it seems like the Japanese auctions are drying up when it comes to MiniDisc players. For the life of me, I couldn’t find anything but MiniDisc lots.
@TechnicalInitiative13 күн бұрын
The 270 is a great unit which I still don't have!!! I have a 240 though, which looks about the same without NetMD. Mercari seems to have plenty - for example, a search on "Sony MZ" turns up a bunch. Let me know if you want more help and I can help you find something! I've also got quite a few players/recorders for sale via MDcon.live
