Solution to no audio input is to record audio separately and use final cut pro to synchronize and replace the audio.

True, you can have auto focus in manual mode because 'manual' in this context is purely exposure control. The whole point of manual mode is that you have full control of the exposure which includes the ISO rating. I'm not sure if I can say it any different but Auto ISO isn't a manual setting. I did notice something in the menus that could sort your slow shutter speed issue under the Settings menu: it's called 'Allow Slow Shutter'. Set that to off and it might be what you're looking for.

This is a very intelligent review. A lot better than the other 10 Sony NEX 6 vids I clicked on. you have answered many of my questions...Including 50p slow down and Full manual control in video mode. well done.

I threw the idea out to some guys on Twitter and believe it or not you do actually have the option for Auto ISO in manual mode on a 60D but the guy has never used it! Good luck with your experiments.

without labouring the point too much, manual mode is obviously a nod to film photography but perhaps you should campaign to have a manual Aperture/SS with an Auto ISO mode.

I've got nex7 & 6.. For nex 6 yes i can set up & control ISO,Aperture,shutter speed even white balance from my phone application. Only timelapse i need to purchase. Cheers!!

i can see you are editing in final cut pro. you have a problem with green frames. here is how to fix it:1.Control-click the sequence and choose Settings. 2.Click the General tab in the Sequence Settings window. 3.In the Quicktime Video Settings area, click the Compressor drop-down menu, and choose Apple ProRes.

If the ISO is automatically changed when setting the aperture or shutter speeds then the mode now ceases to be 'Manual Mode'. The mode would then have to be called 'Auto ISO' mode which I don't believe exists but who knows. Manual Mode is what it's supposed to be, ALL controls manually adjustable. Regards shutter speeds: if the shutter speed is too slow in A mode then open the aperture or increase the ISO, it's that simple.

You want a camera that is small, has an EVF with a 24 to 70mm zoom f1.8 to f2.8 lens that fits in your pocket, then the RX100M3 is the camera for you.

That's good to hear, I'm coming from a DSLR, so battery life in the mirrorless cameras seem to be awful. Do you have a Flickr or anything?

Wow nice insights!! Just bought a nex 6 a week ago and I feel your frustration regarding the manual focus assist..and the remote camera app..I bought the nex6 for the remote camera app but it crashes most of the time on my galaxyS4..and the time lapse function is not available on my region!!despite all of this nex6 is still the best mirrorless camera out there..the oled viewfinder and the manual controls..too bad you cant customize the buttons unlike my old nex c3

Anyway despite of this all pros and cons I'll propably buy the NEX-6 becouse I think this is the best choice for my budget possibilities.

Aaah there is a possibility yeah. I'll look out for it :). But I just can't resist the Nex-6. Well I'll just wait if it's worth it and maybe the NEX-6 will drop in price by then :). Or a NEX-6N will be around the corner.

Hi very useful review , I have seriously planned to buy sony nex 6 but after seeing your rev, there are some really bizarre thinks about that anyway good performed camera, but no possibility to set auto iso in full manual mode that sucks, no jack input etc., another incomprehensible thing for me is impossibility to download apps from sony playmemories in other countries except US UK... and some other prefered countries, that thinks are disappointments for me about that system.

Hey Lachlan, what is the best way to get into photography? Can I learn on my own or is taking a class the better way to go? Currently, I have a Canon SX260 point and shoot which works great but I would like to know how to use the manual functions for better shots and more control. Eventually, I would like to buy a DSLR or Sony Nex series (for better portability as you mentioned). Thanks for your help.

I quite dont get it. U said that in full manual mode u cannot set the iso? Were u pertaining on the video mode or the stills? Because if u were talking about the stills that that would defeat the purpose of manual shooting.Please clarify. Thanks.

I have both the NEX-5T and NEX-6, the 5T lets your control ISO, shutter speed from your smartphone, and the NFC Near Field Connection is million times better than the Wi-fi of the NEX-6. I know that the 5T is cheaper than the 6, but people considering these cameras may really want to try both before they buy.... However, I am very happy with the picture and video quality of both cameras. I sold my Canon on Ebay last year and never regard that. Bye bye big DSLRs.... Now, my bags have room for other stuff for my hiking .....

much better of using off camera mic and sync audio to video - Zoom H1 is a super nice and cheap mic - so mic port not a real issue - I personally wished Sony used the RX100 menu system in the NEX line - have the NEX7 and NEX5n - hate their menu system :) - but love my RX100 menu system - but Apps now with NEX6 will improve - but bring wide array of possibilities - Now just waiting for a NEX7n or NEX8 - a full frame with interchan. lenses around $1400 :) nice review

NEX 7n hmm thats newie for me, it should be a new flag ship of sony nex but I suppose the price will hurts:) however as you said that apps are wash for you, yes propably the most of it is, but I think that timelaps app could be really usefull.

I read review the Sony A6000 is much better than Nex 6. BUT the picture quality of the Nex 6 beat A6000. so I am not buying the A6000. I will wait for the next model.
