Sony PXW-Z280 and Z190 4K Camcorder Overview

Can't wait to try the 280 but a bit frustrating he got the cameras mixed up for the whole video. He keeps talking about the 280 while he points at the 190 and vice versa.

WOW!!! I am amazed you got that!!! I was wondering if he was doing that too!!! Pretty stupid I guess...although I would think the bigger camera would be the one with the longer zoom, which is the Z190. Not sure why they would give the lesser expensive model a much longer zoom, and just asked them for a list of differences in features between the cameras. Thanks for this!!

My guess is since the 190 has a smaller sensor, much easier to get more zoom from the same glass.

Jeremy Wenger , i think you got the camera mixed up . The 280 is the one on your left , with 4 audio channel , and smaller lens ring ( 77mm for the z280 , 82mm for the z190 ) . But is also true that when they do a zoom in they invert the camera positions . Now , 8 month passed , and probably you already realized that ! Me instead , i’m still indecided between z190-z280-fs5-Alfa7iii .... fuck fuck fuck

Is this a constant aperture lens rated at F2.8 ?

On the Z280, according to the Sony specs the lens is rated: F1.9 - F16. It does ramp at longer focal lengths. Z190 is f1.6 - f11, not constant as well. Hope this helps,

I've been trying to find out this info, I dont have any of the cameras with me at the moment, and can't find the exact ramp up stop in the Sony docs, I'd imagine 5.3 or a bit higher when zoomed out, but I cant confirm this. Hope this helps,

Are you looking for setting for short or long-form content? We normally stick to 4K XAVC for short, and XAVC-L for events or other longer form recordings such as filming interviews for documentaries. Hope this helps,

I'm wondering if the Z280 will end up having a 'video look' in 25p or if it'll somewhat cinematic/creamy ? There's no footage that's not 50p around :(

The goal with these was to be relatively portable and also include the necessary functionality for pro video production. Weight reduction comes as standard these days.

AVCHD is quite an outdated codec, and not many use it. XAVC-S offers much better compression and picture quality IMHO. Hope this helps.

Why can’t Sony make a camcorder with A7sii sensor,(or even the A7siii), with a Sony E-mount inside their camcorders. If they can put such quality in a D-SLR , surely it will be easier to put it in a larger body of these type camcorders?? Am I making sense???

These kind of camcorder are for run and run, documentary and sports etc thus they have powerful zoom range. If you put in a full frame sensor you will not be able to get that kind of zoom otherwise your lens will be HUGE and impossible to hand hold. If you want interchangeable lens there are already FS7 and FS5 which are S35 and is excellent in terms of depth of field and low light capability. If you want more DOF you can use a prime lens and they offer more than enough bokeh effect. I don't see the need for a FF sensor in these type of camcorder body.
