The Sony RX0 is not really an action camera. The Sony Action Camera be is the Sony X3000 and it blows away the GoPro Hero 6 in every way. I shoot mountain biking videos on my Sony and the image stabilization is amazing. The picture, sound, color and obviously be the image stabilizer is so much better on the Sony X3000

Would you help me out kai w ? We are currently looking for a camera to put overhead while we cut food in our livestream. Like Tasty does. I don't want to hang my RED there and I don't want to hang my 5D either. Thing is: I got an old GoPro 3+ but It's unsharp as hell even with a ring light mounted around the camera because distance between food and camera is just 20-30cm. So light is not a problem, quality is. As there is no way to pull focus I think the RX0 is a way to go? 24mm would be good I think, bloody wide is absolutely stupid as I have to cut out the floor and stuff around just to show the important area. Is there any cheaper idea... a cheap camcorder maybe? It should not be very heavy as I mounted a go pro Mount on the ceiling with an extrension pole, so if it's to heavy it would sink down.... but that could be fixed if neccessary... Thank you so much =)

Look like a very light and cheap alternative to film in wideangle with a big camera on a ronin, seems perfect for a one man production, you can have your camera on tripod or shoulder rig, and this on a gimball and switch easy. A gopro doesn't properly merge on a professional shooting unless is for serious action. Thanks for the review, anybody know if it does fit the feiyu G5?

I often film general aviation airplanes (those small ones, with propellers) and small helicopters. Sometimes I do that from another plane flying more or less side by side. My production standard is FullHD/25p. The RX0 is THE camera for me. It's a tight fit with my trusty old Sony PMW-EX1R in a cockpit of something like Super Dimona, RV7 or Eurostar, sometimes even Robinson R44 (considering the shortest FD of ≈30 mm equivalent on the camcorder, and I have no wide-angle attachment)... but this thing, on a gimbal, of course (should fit my Feiyu G4QD), with its 24mm FOV, gradeable and detailed picture, and better range of manual settings, is a doctor's order for my application. Or even when properly mounted on a hull or outside (slapped on firmly, so that the camera would be in total sync with aircraft's own vibrations): I can just say to a pilot “keep in 30° above and behind the plane we film, distance 30 to 150 meters” and get it all perfectly clear, unobstructed by wings, struts and scratched/curved/dirty plexiglas windows, with a land in background and all that. Two, three or four cameras like this, strategically placed on a filming aircraft, will make that beautiful aircraft maneuvers with graceful slides in/out of a frame a piece of cake, even if we're talking about Antonov An-2 and other not-so-gracious and fast aircraft. Given a 4K external recorder and some wiring (lots of gaffer's tape, yes), that will allow even smooth in-flight zoom-ins (on a post, of course) and very usable post-production IS. It's just the RX0's price that isn't currently really right for my budget, especially several pieces and several 4K recorders.

As mentioned, this isn't an action camera. It's for professionals. When filming interviews I sometimes use a gopro on a tripod for behind the scenes look angle, but the image quality is very poor due to the huge differences in light. The RX0 should do a much better job. But I still don't understand why no internal 4K recording

Nurul Izzati those two cameras are for different kinds of videography if you need an action camera with all its benefits, take the go pro. if you need a little camcorder with an excellent picture profile that looks like a bigger production camera, then take the Sony

This inch measurement of sensor size is bonkers! What does it say? Looking at wikipedia a 1" sensor the diagonal is comparable: 1/2.3" - 7.66mm 1" - 16mm M4/3 - 21.6 mm APS-C - 28.2 mm 35mm full frame - 43.1mm For an action camera a bigger sensor would really be cool I'd think because you don't really control the lighting that much.

I am such a huge fan of the Sony X3000 as well. The GoPro has fantastic electronic stabilization up until it 'runs out' of room to stabilize the frame, then it just really aggressively shifts the video. It's smooth but simultaneously extremely distracting. The full optical stabilization of the X3000 just destroys it. It's only a 4k30 camera, but the Hero 6 is only 4K 30 when stabilized in camera as well, so I consider that a was. It also doesn't need to crop in like the GoPro. Not everyone puts stabilized video as the priority that I do, but I'm so much happier with the Sony than the GoPro. Videos speak louder than words, so here's the example. In the first (GoPro) video, it's rock steady at the end when I'm walking, but IMO, it looks terrible when actually running. Older vid, but still want to put in my .02 The RX0 seems like a cool choice for a drone. I want one so that I can run a smaller gimbal than I'd need for my g7(or a g85) and I can use that extra all up weight to mount an atomos, then I get a lightweight drone shooting in slog and prores on a larger sensor. Then when I want to upgrade I can get the ribcage mount and use mft lenses.

Kai, I would have liked to see a video review of the two products compared where one will obviously struggle over the other. Crank the ISO on that Sony RX0 when the sun goes down, so the same thing with that gopro, THEN we'll see its' real purpose. I can only imagine that using that rx0 as a run n' gun adventurist time-lapse camera at night would be killer-good too vs using a gopro. This camera likely also is fantastic for drone work, no?

I think the rx0 length and width is smaller and depth is about the same if you factor in the gopro lens poking out. The rx0 certainly feels smaller (but heavier) than a gopro

Honestly as a longterm GoPro user ( first model 1080hd's finally died around 9k and 10k clips ) i dont rate the sonyRX0 even against their own action cams. Sure i sound like a fanboi and that's fine , I near spat chips when the Hero$ i bought had worse wind noise than a pov but calmed with a hero5 etc , nice review Kai love your work mate ;)

Surprised the X3000 did not overheat before you smashed it. Sony is having major issues with their lower priced... everything. A5100 overheating, x3000 overheating, and even newer HDR-AS50's overheating (mine doesn't overheat but it was a first batch model). I'm ready to jump the Sony ship until I can afford their high end cameras.

I wouldn't call it an action camera, but its an excellent remote camera that you can use in sports since you can control with with an remote, it shots 15 pictures per second as a camera which makes it really useful in something like football placed in a goal
