Initially I thought the same too, why buy the VI? After putting some thoughts I would still buy the VI for few reasons. 1. the touch screen allows you to do video shots like pull focus. 2. 200mm zoom allows me to film stuff far away in slow motion eg birds. 3. Stabilisation with a long focal length and something so compact. It's pretty pricey, but I would prefer to have this which I can bring it out daily rather than a DSLR or Mirrorless. Im quite a casual shooter, so this fits my usage.

Still no Mic-In; went from RX100IV to V, but won't jump to VI. Also, do you notice a weird rattling noise in your video when filming and moving around with the VI? Both my IV and V developed this glass-on-glass rattling noise within a year, and 4 V I tested new out of the box has this rattling noise during filming. Supposedly loose lens assembly for the IS and is within spec.

Does the RX100 VI compensate it's lower max aperture perhaps with much improved noise reduction in ISO?
@parisbase46396 жыл бұрын
Popart Films As observed from the many photos samples on internet, RX100 VI has much more inferior low light performance than V. Images get blurry/soft and noisy as early as ISO 800-1000. Including those from Dpreview. Very unacceptable for the pricepoint of $1200. A huge drawback. 3.img-dpreview.com/files/p/sample_galleries/8189628340/1801841581.jpg pliki.optyczne.pl/SRX100mk6/DSC00291.JPG pliki.optyczne.pl/SRX100mk6/DSC00282.JPG Optyczne Whole collection : www.optyczne.pl/12489-news-Sony_Cyber-shot_RX100_VI-_zdj%C4%99cia_przyk%C5%82adowe.html

So, basically, the RX100V is better than the RX100VI...
@kenross60286 жыл бұрын
Paris Base -So this is nonsense. DPReview has objective test shots that can be used in their comparison tool, where up to 4 cameras can be compared. The fact is, and the tool shows, at multiple ISOs up to 3200, the RX100VI does better than the RX100V, with less noise and more detail.
@PopartFilms6 жыл бұрын
I hope this is true, Ken. I really want to like the new RXVI. So I just checked it out. And it looks like the noise is the same, however their noise reduction algorithm seems to be improved (or is just laid on a bit thicker). However the difference between the apertures of the two cameras probably won't be saved by the noise reduction improvement, when it comes to darker environments. Unless someone can convince me otherwise, I still think that 24-70mm is preferable with that f/1.8 for my purposes. I'm not shooting video of wildlife with this camera, I'm filming mostly people who are 3-15 feet away and often in darker environments and that low light capability in such a small package is the main reason I love the Mark V so much. If it had a mic jack, that camera would be the absolute perfection of a take-it-everywhere vlogging camera.
@kenross60286 жыл бұрын
Popart Films - I found less noise and more detail in the VI vs the V up to ISO 1600. I have linked the tool below. For me, even if there’s a bit of light loss, I’ve seen a few very impressive 4K low light videos. Add to that the much greater reach, HLG/HDR capability, selfie LCD and touch focus, it’s a much better fit for me. YMMV. www.dpreview.com/reviews/image-comparison?attr18=daylight&attr13_0=sony_dscrx100m6&attr13_1=sony_dscrx100m5&attr13_2=sony_a7iii&attr13_3=panasonic_dcgh5&attr15_0=jpeg&attr15_1=jpeg&attr15_2=jpeg&attr15_3=jpeg&attr16_0=1600&attr16_1=1600&attr16_2=1600&attr16_3=1600&normalization=full&widget=1&x=0.3402563301031572&y=1.0109835415889594

Usually this kind of cameras have zoom lenses that eventually will attract dust inside them. This dust will start to appear in photos and there is very little things you can do about that. 6:47 It's not just that sometimes you can't zoom your feet quick enough. Walking closer to your subject and zooming in or walking further away and zooming out also doesn't give you the same result. But I'm pretty sure you know that. But I don't understand why you still think this is a good limitation. Being creative means you don't make good photos by accident but by making the right decisions. And one important desicion is choosing the right focal length to get the right amount af background compression. While primes still have their advantages, they won't let you make that desicion the same way you could with a zoom lense.

It's astonishing how this Sony series of cameras keeps surprising. I'm still shooting on on the original RX100 and 6 years later it's just as great (if a little long-lensed at 28mm). so far as social media and full-screen photos it's great - if I ever get more serious about my photography I'll have to go with a Sony system.

Very interested to see the Sony a7iii go down in the heat, shocking. Was keen to by into this system but as I often work in temperatures hotter than Venice that's concerning, it would appear it's not just rain and humidity that's a problem for these 'game changing' cameras.
