⭐️ Buy the Sony RX100 VII: geni.us/gxU7 (affiliate) What's up everyone?! I hope this review of the Sony RX100 VII was helpful. Did you like it? This camera isn’t inexpensive and I wasn’t sure if I would think it’s a good value. I was super impressed with the image quality, I love the autofocus and it is so compact and portable. The flip screen worked really well and the pop-up EVF is the best implementation I’ve seen. Is this a camera you would consider getting? Why or why not?

I just got the RX100M7 4-years later as is still a great camera and from what I hear will be the last of its line from Sony. Sony sells a grip for the front of the camera which I fitted immediately which gets over the slipperiness and makes this camera as comfortable to handle as anything so small can be. One as far as I know unique feature of this camera is the ability to take full resolution stills while recording HD video. Ideal for the shooter like me that often forgoes video so as not to miss that perfect photo moment. With this camera it is possible to have both. I also like the flip up flash for fill-in. So two great features that even my top of the line Alpha 1 cannot offer. For me I will be using the RX100 as a camera I can take with me anywhere to get high quality images, or as even as an extra to carry with my full frame camera to get me focal lengths not covered by the lens on my A1. For example in my wildlife photography, 99% of my photos are with 400+mm lens, but I can pull out the RX100 on the occasion that an animal does come close.

One of the best videos to be found on the web identifying and assessing the performance of rx100 vii features. If you are thinking about purchasing this camera, you should see this video. It provides important and valuable information for both still and video shooters. I have seen virtually all KZbin videos on this camera and this is one of the most comprehensive reviews done to date. As a rx100 vii user, I agree with his assessment on the camera’s good features. But I wish the camera had better low light performance, as is pointed out in the video, and I wish it had a better ability to blur backgrounds and produce bokeh, which I don’t think the video mentions. Overall, a very fine review.

I have owned a Canon S100 and Panasonic Lumix CS52. Both of these camera broke down so that they are now a door stop. The Canon S100 broke down under warranty and Canon repaired it. The S100 broke 2d time again, and Canon wanted to fix for half the cost of a new one. The Panasonic Lumix CS52 was bought with a "free" extended 2 year warranty to replace my S100. The CS52 broke down with 1 month left on the warranty. Panasonic's warranty contractor claimed that I misused the camera, but I didn't; but I did heavily use it. They wanted 2/3ds the price of new camera. Another boat anchor. So a word to the wise. BTW Panasonic contracts it warranty work in the USA, and if you read the reviews, they are only so, so at best. I bought the Sony RX100-7 in 2019, when it was introduced to replace my CS52, and so far, the RX100-7 has been utterly reliable. So when you need super-reliable camera, I would go with the Sony RX100-7, it is right there when you need it. Even though it costed $1,300, it was worth every penny to me. BTW if you guys get the Sony RX100-7, buy the little rubber grip for ~$20, that is attached/glued to the right side for better grip. Personally for such ultra-premium camera I am surprised it was not included, oh well. The Sony RX100-7 has never disappointed me.

It's a great little camera, although a bit fiddly you can get some excellent results out of it. Nice as B cam and for video. I put the small rig cage on (latest one for the rx100vii) gives the grip, protection and access to all the ports without being to bulky.

@@TechGearTalk as you have tested the rx100 and the m6ii , could i ask your opinion on how they compare from a usability and image quality point of view. I have always wondered if the m6ii would be better than rx100 as my b cam to complement my eos r. cheers
@TechGearTalk5 жыл бұрын
If it were me, I would get the m6ii to compliment the EOS R. It will be easier to match the color and the user experience will be very similar. If, however, you want 120fps with autofocus, you can look at the a6400 or the fuji x-t30 - both of which are less expensive than the rx100 vii. The true advantage of the rx100 vii is the portability. You can literally take it anywhere. Because with the other options, we're still talking about lenses, and accessories, whereas rx100vii - put in your pocket and go.Hope this was helpful.

First, thanks for making the video. I've been using a Nikon Coolpix A900 for about 6 years now and it's time to upgrade. The vast majority of the shooting I do is from a recumbent trike, or somewhere I'll stop while riding and get up because I see a great photo op.. Usually that means wildlife, sunsets, sunrises, and other FL vistas. The most important things to me are speed in being able to get the camera out of my camelback, turned on, focused, and shot (and of course zoomed if necessary), image quality, and zoom and this camera appears to excel at all three. After looking over probably 15 or 20 different compact/travel cameras, this one does look like the one I'll buy.

Hey Dude, always enjoyed your videos and only just watched this one as only just considering the RX100 VII. Even though the RX100 VII is over 3 years old, I am actually tempted to get one as an uber compact camera when travelling, I already have the A7C and love it, but my lens choices are not compact. I wish there was hopes of getting an updated MK VIII soon with USB-C and the updated menu, but I think it’s safe to say that Sony did the ZV1 and now has no interest in making a premium photo centric version with this form factor anymore. What’s your thoughts? Still worth buying in 2023, or has someone else made the ultimate compact camera that’s a no brainier? PS. Your video was the only one I found that explained where in the zoom range the F2.8 drops to F4 (44mm I think you said), so thank you for that I was really interested particularly on this. Huge thanks

I wish the Mk VIII would have a bit less FL (to 150mm) and re-adopt the f/1.8 lens I have in my Mk II. I'm a still photographer & need the faster lens for low light...

Great video. I want to start dabbling in video. What do you do on a bright sunny day. Do you use a filter of any sort or the 180 degree method is not so important. Thanks
@TechGearTalk5 жыл бұрын
Lensmate makes an adapter kit! If you're stuck without one, then you have to ignore the 180 degree method.

No, I didn't have one. That is why some of the beach shots are overexposed.

Thank you for your video. if i want to chose a compact camera among Sony Rx100VII and Fuji film X100V. i am more interested in images rather than video . what is your opinion? which one has a best image quality? pls help me.
@Swaggerlot2 жыл бұрын
The only thing that I disagree with on this review is the comment on ergonomics and the criticism that it is too 'slippery'. I have no issues with the handling of what is a pocket sized super-compact. Adding 'grippiness' might suit some, but I don't want a super-compact that is hard to remove from my jeans because it has a 'grippy' surface. I don't have really big hands, so that helps as well. In short, if you want something that a bricklayer will feel comfortable handling and is easy to remove from your outsized Gucci bum-bag, then don't look at the RX100.

I'm thinking about this camera to replace my Nikon A900 for vlogging. The low light is way better than the Nikon.

I have a question. Would you recommend it if : 1) you are beginner and know only really basics from photography 2) you want to take better photos than your smartphone fast and without any effort (maybe with auto mode) 3) you dont want to edit photos or videos ???
@TechGearTalk4 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting question. 1. Every camera these days can shoot in auto, but if you're trying to get into photography with camera, I would assume your goal is to learn more as you go along. 2. "Better" is going to be subjective. This camera "can" take better pictures than your phone but that does not mean that it necessarily WILL take better pictures. Your phone is doing a lot of computational photography for you. You're losing control, but gaining ease of use. 3. Again, it comes down to expectations. For how small it is, this camera is fantastically powerful. It can get you very good results when used properly. I hope I was able to give you some valuable insight here.

@@TechGearTalk and how about without editing?

you'll be able to do things you smartphone can't do in terms of optical zoom, etc. But you'll never maximize the potential of the camera without editing. I'm just keeping it honest with you.

Hi again. Help lol.... Hi I really need some help and advice again please. I would like to buy a compact camera with a good zoom, good video, picture quality, touch screen, flip screen if possible, anti shake as I have a small tremor and RA in my hands but I really would like to buy one (at last) and finally take nice photos of birds, family so fast moving, night shots and would like to photo water that looks like foggy/steamy if you know what I mean. I am a pensioner (in my 70s and a young pensioner), so cannot afford a lot. I bought an Olympus Pen 10 camera just before the pandemic but then we could not go out. But trying it on birds in the garden and horses in the field where I lived, I realised that with these hands not a good idea to have to keep changing lens, as it was awkward. Could you please point me in the right direction please. I live in Uk. I really do need advice again. Many thanks. 😊😊

Can we get good amounts of bokeh effect for potraits with this camera?
@Rainism9694 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately this camera is not that good at separation of the subject from background to create nice bokeh. But its not impossible you just need to use zoom function and widest aperture available at that zoom range but again the limitation in sensor size and max. aperture while zooming makes its a little challenging to get a separation for normal portraiture if not a close-up portraiture. Hope this would help.
