Sony SCD-1 (SCD-777ES) CD/SACD Player

This is an absolute classic. Not only is the sound quality truly audiophile worthy, but the build quality is astounding in an absolute sense, plus there's something magic about the CD door smoothly gliding from open to close on the top of the unit. I compare this unit to the SCD-777ES.

The scd1 is pretty much identical to the 777es,it has balanced those were the real significant differences between the two. Aside from a nicer finish overall. The es777 has r core transformers and should have 2 transformers (100khz silver wound) like the scd1 transformers. They only are within 2 pounds of their weight difference so it's not "much heavier" The transport everything is identical, the es777 at more than a grand less was the actual better value.

I had one of the these when it first came out. At the time I thought it was great. How does that sound? Does it still hold up against other CD player if you can buy for three to $5000?

All cd players sound the same. I used to sell naim cd players and it was pretty sad how we all pretended there was a difference.

Hi I have the same cd player and yes it is outstanding however it stopped playing some time ago and my technician said we need a particular IC 001 8-749-016-23 IC SS133P3721-R4 (part number take from the official service manual) any idea where I might try to find this part, as it seems to very hard to find it, thanks

I can’t devote time to this, but I’d say you’d want to find the data sheet, determine what the IC does, and then go on mouser and see if there’s a replacement. If there’s a schematic of the chip itself, you can typically remake it using discrete components.
