I am from Lithuania, and when the pronoun parasite said it takes 2 minutes to create an account, funny thing happened - it took 2 minutes to get banned cause I selected Poland since it was the closest country for me. I can no longer play Helldivers 150 hours so maybe enough copium to consolodate a loss. After uninstalling the game it took another ~50min to get rid of the anticheat. I am paranoid whether I was successful and if the root kit won't install itself in time, but PC performance bounced back to what it was before getting the "packaged deal" with helldivers

@@-lord1754 Yes sir, you install the game with kernel level access anticheat and when you uninstall the game, the anticheat stays and remains active, you manually uninstall .exe and delete what remained in HD2 folder, reset pc, only to find gameguard reinstalled itself. Looking in the registry and deleting everything under nprotected seemed to get rid of it (It was a little freaky when your pc tracks the executable coming from S32 "GAMEmon -service" you look there, it's not there, and after restarting pc it pulls Obiwans "hello there")

This is like how Microsoft now tries to force you to create a Microsoft account when installing the USB VERSION OF WINDOWS 11. I got the USB because it was a brand new PC I built, and couldn't connect to wifi before having windows installed, then they tried to force me to immediately connect via ethernet which I can't do. There's a workaround which involves using command prompt to bypass that so-called necessity, then on restarting the PC the option for "I don't have access to internet" shows up. Like they couldn't have just showed that from the beginning. All these megacorporations trying to get every bit of data they have on you so they can sell it is beyond absurd.

Calling the community 'angry' about this is the understatement of the century. I've never seen a steam news post with 0 upvotes before, even for tiny indie games. They locked the discussion thread about an hour after it was posted and then deleted almost half of the comments on it. The ones that remain are still almost entirely negative. The game has received almost 33k negative reviews and counting just today, at the time of writing. That number was 27k less than 2 hours ago. The discord has been on fire for hours. Anyone who posts or comments on the subreddit in support of this gets downvoted into oblivion in minutes. I've never seen a fandom riot like this over anything before.

Sony also has the most lawsuits against them for misappropriation of the data they collect from users.

Not a Helldivers 2 player (in fact, I don't own a single Sony-published game) but it seems to me that changing the rules to use a product one has already purchased should be grounds for a hell of a class action lawsuit in every country, especially given Sony's horrible security record. And it should certainly be grounds for legal action in every country where a PSN account is not available, as that is blatant fraud; offering a refund should not negate the legal repercussions of that fraud.

This is a shame because apparently I HAVE a PSN, but I cannot access it because I don't remember the password for the account that was made YEARS ago. I've tried to get help for this, some kind of password reset link to the email or something, but since all Sony asks for is things like "linked cards" or "last few purchased games" for proof that it's my account, and, again, it's an account that was apparently made years ago (I dint even remember making a PSN account), they basically said "tough luck, no account for you", and I can't even have the account deleted to be able to use my email to make a new account.

microsoft acct can be located in all but 5 of 169 countries, and you generally need one if you have windows installed. PSN acct can only be made in less than 100 and is only useful if you have a playstation, but many people were still allowed to buy the game and bypass account linking at all, which gave the impression it wasn't required. now it's being made required and all of those people will lose access as they can't make a PSN acct without breaking ToS. people's entire friend groups can no longer play the game they were having fun with together just because of where they live.

keep in mind they sold the game in regions where psn isn't available. why would you sell it in those regions when the intention was to force this in the first place? either oversight or on purpose

A few things that you didn't mention that I think are quite important to the story: 1.) A short prompt was shown to some players when starting the game for the first time prompting them to link their PlayStation accounts. However you could skip the step, with wording that seemed like this was completely optional. This page also didn't show for everyone. Some players, myself included, didn't even know it was an option until now. 2.) They could have limited what regions could buy the game on steam, however they did not. This means they willfully allowed people to buy and play the game in regions that they knew would not be able to play in the future. I say willfully instead of chopping it up to them being neglectful, due to the fact that the game can STILL be purchased in those regions even after this. 3.) While the United Kingdom and Ireland are both included in the 69 countries that are supported by the PlayStation, there is an issue when creating an account for those users. When creating a PlayStation account they are required to submit either a photo of themselves or a photo of their government issued identification. This is required to verify your age on your PlayStation account. I personally wouldn't trust any company with my ID, let alone one that has had a history of data breaches (as recent as 2022). 4.) I understand that this was Sony's doing, however Arrowhead is not an innocent party here. They at no time (prior to this or now) have done anything to rectify this issue, and they got themselves into this position. This was something that they could have fought on prior to launch. They could have mentioned this at, before, or even after launch, but instead stayed quiet about it until now. Now they may not have been able to change the accessible regions for purchase on Steam, as it was published my Sony and they may have been the only ones who could do that. However they could have very well geofenced players in those regions from being able to play, and stated this as being why. Not only would this have been a warning for what was to come, but it also would have likely alleviated some of the server issues at launch. In all both Arrowhead and Sony are to blame here, but mostly Sony. While they say its for moderation and safety, it clearly isn't as we have been fine without it with the current moderation. And there is nothing safe about Sony having your data. This to me seems like Sony using Helldivers 2 to get more playing information to sell, as MOST companies do. This isn't something that is isolated, but quite common. None the less it shouldn't be tolerated.

And as I mentioned, they could have taken multiple steps to prevent or alleviate this issue. They could have and still can geofence unsupported regions, however choose not to.
