What a machine, it's impressive that it was just the regulator and hall effect sensor considering how advanced it looks inside.

A couple of years back, I took delivery of an SLHF950UB, the ultimate Betamax for the UK market. I'm following this series with interest in case I ever need to conduct any repairs on mine.
@MrBetaByte Жыл бұрын
The HF950 is quite different to the HF900 especially the power supply. No STK and it uses a switch mode power supply.

Treat it with care! I sold mine almost exactly 20 years ago, I had had it since new and babied it - hope it’s still out there giving pleasure. Only problem I ever had with it was that it went through VU meters - I think I replaced them twice, oh and the linear audio/erase circuit needed fixing. I think I still have the service manual somewhere….

They used those STK ic's in sony amps in some of the 90s lbt series as power amps. What a beautiful old VRC 😍
@video99couk Жыл бұрын
I think the STK series chips used in amplifiers are different part numbers with different functions than this regulator circuit, but the construction was very similar.

I’m thinking that there was still a good amount of debris around the pins of the original Hall effect sensor. I wonder if cleaning around its leads more thoroughly would have fixed it. After all, the old sensor was kind of working. Just a thought.

Same here I must have changed well over 50 hall devices never had one that worked by cleaning the glue off

The picture quality, could it be the white clipping adjustment? Also, check the rotary transformer glue has not turned to mush as did the hall sensor.

Are there any EU machines that share the same power supply? In that case the easiest thing to do might be to swap the transformer if the original only has a 100 V primary winding.
@orihalcon8693Ай бұрын
I've seen a few comments about the voltage conversions for different machines you're working - why not just use autotransformers? You can hand select whatever output voltage you want that way. Main downside I see would be accidentally plugging in the wrong power source if you were instead wanting something more permanently attached to each machine.

I have a Sony SL HF360 Betamax VCR and which I brought from a Estate sale which it looks like it was in great condition but it does not feed the tape around the drum and then ejects leaving the tape sort of unraveled. I would like any suggestions that you could provide ... I have several Beta tapes to view then transfer to digital format ,, Thanks

It needs to be looked at by someone who is familiar with these machines. There are fragile parts in the mechanism and it's all too easy to break something and make it much worse.
@frankowalker4662 Жыл бұрын
That is a much easier way to replace the hall sensor. 👍

@@video99couk There was an update to my situation I got some one in my area to fix it its 100% repaired now and I didn't have to ship it out. It needed a new loading belt and a new capacitor in the video output board. They also fixed my bang and olufsen headphones which failed on the cabled line in connection.
