About time Sony. Recovering your once top notch name in the game. I would like an actual comparison of battery life at full volume. The BB3 died too quick to me while on my boat. My Diamondboxx M3 with upgraded battery size lasted forever and shocked me how long it lasted (never even died on me yet).

How about at same loudness rather than full volume. Because some speakers have different maximum volume but if you played at a lower volume you'd get longer run time. But if you want to compare two products regarding how long they can play music wouldn't it make sense to do so at the same loudness too. In case some can play louder but at the cost of a higher power draw and lower battery life, doesn't necessarily mean it can't keep up at the same loudness.

All three speakers mentioned are in the same category and size to each other. If one is a little louder than the other, that's just simply a little more points for that speaker, but no, I'd wasn't to know how long it can play at full volume. Because in a situation, that's what I'll be listening to it at, no matter which might be a decibel or two louder.

What are you doing on your boat and did you even charge the speaker or pullit out and start using it. My BB3 is ~ 2 years old, use it daily at work in the kitchen and still lasts through an entire 8 hour shift @~80% volume with 25% or more left. You got a dud, to be fair they did half the battery of the BB2. JBL gives you minor fixes to remove other features completely.

@@Bound4Earth Seem like you use it on battery supply. If not that could be it. Since I assume if it's hooked up to the electricity grid it may charge up and then not use the battery and just run of the mains hence not using the battery (though having it at full charge is worse, they also could not charge to full capacity on purpose for long-term longevity) vs multiple charge cycles from running it towards or even to empty and then recharge and repeat.

The bigger problem with the Xtreme 3 or most JBL speakers right now is they do cut the power when on battery by quite a bit which effects things like base and volume slightly. Which is why I am done with JBL and seriously considering Sony now. Well a lot of other things like a fake 3 band EQ that is software and does not work when pairing speakers, they break the pairing between generations to plan obsolesce and so many other issues beyond being overpriced. It is only 2 years old and was probably saved because I plug it in half of the time due to that limitation. It also has a battery half the size of the Xtreme 2 and 4. I also rarely go above %80 because the bass drops off a cliff and you end up with a worse sound past that. If I didn't buy a second one cheap recently to pair up for stereo I would be buying the ULT Field 7 right now.

If you can swing it money wise snag the Sony MDR-1Am2. They are lightweight, super comfortable, only 16 Ohm so run great on smartphones/tablets etc. And sound incredible on my Fiio M15 using the balanced 4.4 mm jack. Just boost the low and high end a couple of db on your eq and you will be blown away.

I've noticed The sony Ult field 7 is way more louder, and when comparing it to the JBL Boombox, the bass sounds a little bit muddy to me. Both speakers sound good on their own, but i think the Ult field 7 is up there with the JBL boombox! Great review floss! I think the sony ULT field 7 is Perfect for the cookout!

Just listening from this youtube video, JBL has deeper bass, the sound packs more body and punch, slightly warmer, so naturally is a tiny bit muddier and bloated. Sony has more clarity, the attacks are faster and tighter, overall sounds a tad brighter, and the treble has some crystal quality to it, which add more dynamic to it. Personally I like Sony's product design, I am just not a fan of JBL's huge logo branding.

Apprantely Flossy these speakers are the first ever SONY speakers that were made by their speaker and headphones/earbuds teams working together. Which probably explains why the great improvement. And if Flossy is saying it's now a real competition for the JBL speakers then you KNOW the new SONY must be good.

I used Sony and Pioneer products in the past but always wanted to try JBL. I have three JBL Boombox 3 (1 Bluetooth and 2 wifi models). I personally like more the wifi model since it sounds a little better than the Bluetooth version, but I still use the Bluetooth version at work playing it in Partyboost with 2 charge 5. At home, I have the wifi models paired in stereo. They are enough for any home. Clarity is good and together make plenty of bass to be feeling inside and outside the house. Sony is still a good option.

I must say that this isnt a bad speaker at all, but i feel like the price is just slightly high. Sony has always been a little high on the prices but this one seems more worth it. I think its comparible with the Xtreme series, but maybe not the boombox series when it comes to size and sound wise. Im a sucker for bass so i cant help but stick with jbl. I actually found a jbl pulse 4 for only $54 on ebay. It's a demo model from a store, and the only problem is the screw holes. Its a huge deal

SONY ULT 7 WINS- RGB Lights, Mic Input can use for PA and Videoke , multi use, Can attach a shoulder strap, Can be place vertical space saving. Wish it had a replaceable battery like JBL 120/320 and Extreme 4.

Awesome, i listen to Tidal, and i like higher quality audio. I've been wanting to leave jbl due to the SBC codec being completely lossy. LDAC is amazing, and even though it is still not lossless, i would rather use this speaker for Tidal. I might buy the ult 1 instead of the 7 because i can carry it easier around with me on my walks. Yes, i can use the 7, but it might not be portable enough for me. Let me know if im wrong about it. i still might buy the 7, but i need to make sure i can carry it around.

I purchased one & it does get pretty loud with good sound quality at louder volumes. I am listening through my new Bose QuietComfort (Not Ultra!) They do both sound great, but I think the JBL has greater bass, but it suffers to the Sony on clarity. This is a good test. Volume wise they seem to hit about the same numbers. I guess you got to ask yourself in the end, what makes you happy and do you need a speaker that is water proof. The way the Sony has 2 different ways on standing up is a real plus. I am looking at Cyber Weekend when deals are sweet and wanting a good BlueTooth Speaker. Good comparison and thank you for the video. Entertaining for sure. I wondered if I should go for a good Box bluetooth speaker over these. They maybe heavier but tend to be an overall good buy. What's your thoughts?

I’m a bass head, I don’t care about aesthetics, I just want SUPER DUPER PURE BASS. As much as a car with 10,000 watts of power in subwoofers but deep enough that tops every speaker that all my friends had in terms of bass regardless of how much they pay (a lot of my friends speakers are around $150 and less)

Well, he used it on the ult 1 mode and he did say ult 2 has a deeper base. If you compare the two with the ult 2, I think you get the better base and also the better clarity. I think the Sony is the hands down winner and I believe you'd think so as well. Honestly JBL is due to release a new contender. It makes sense that the new guy is better. Let's wait to see what JBL punches back with, I think it'll be better than the Sony.
