Did not quite get it. So your mask and overlay should match? Where did you get the mask? EDIT: Figured it out: I see the project you've used with transitions and matching mattes.

I'm using a newer version of Vegas which has a very different layout, and so some icons are missing, like the purple arrow that "merges" tracks together. Since there's no text or anything else indicating what that effect is, I have no idea how to replicate it on my version. Edit: Apparently it is "make composting child"? Using that gets a similar effect. Got it to work! :) Would still be useful to make it more clear what you did in the tutorial, though.

Been practicing it, but during the transitions, I can faintly see the next shot over the other. Does anyone know how to eliminate that? I've turned the opacity up to the most, but it's still doing it. Am I doing something wrong?

where is track matte?

track matte is the name for the effect applied in after effects, but this is the way to replicate it in sony vegas
