I had to tilt the monitor back to see anything in the monitor. This drove me mad and I was ready to send the camera in for repairs. Your video mentioned the proximity sensor getting dirty. After I cleaned mine, the view now properly switches between the back monitor and the EVF as expected. Many thanks!

02:42 Hi, Mark! Thank you for adding some reminders about DRO and Creative Style. I have been a long Alpha system photographer since Sony a200. I love the DRO function, and I shot a lot of photos with DRO. However, I have noticed that Capture One 12 no longer support Sony ARW-DRO and ARW-Creative style (Or due to they no longer offering a sony lite version of Capture One). In the beginning, I thought it was a defect or something wrong with my cameras' settings or my computers because why my photos were suddenly underexposure or color style was not correct. Until then I installed Sony Image Edge Desktop. Then my photos are all again to show correctly color, style and DRO in RAW file format. If users love to use Capture One or lightroom as post editing and shoot in RAW, then need to turn off DRO and Creative Style. These photo editing software don't support Sony DRO and Creative style in RAW files, but Sony Image Edge does support these features! However, Sony IEDT isn't as fast as Capture One and lacks of data organizer feature. If other photo editing software applications support ARW-DRO and ARW-Creative style, that would be great and save more time in the workflow.

Leaving D-Range Optimizer on for Raw shooters is still OK if you choose the exposure based on the highlights and not the shadows. Check out my Zebras 109+ for Raw shooters video. You can also set the shadows slider in Lr to +50 or +60 as a modified default value when developing images.

Hi Mark, thank you for your videos. They were always helpful for the past two years I've been using Sony cameras. There's one thing though which no one ever covered and which is making me thing about giving the camera away. I have Sony a7iii, very pleased with it but the EVF is a bit of a pain. The fact that, once the shutter button half pressed - the af is on, the resolution of the evf (and the display as well) drops drastically makes me never really want to use the evf and use only the lcd where this fact is not that visible and disturbing. My question is - is it really like that as some say that Sony uses maximal resolution only for image preview and video but when you're taking stills the resolution decreases and no one ever speaks about it or is there (please) some super hidden settings which causes this an you can turn it on/off? It would be awesome if you had any hint how to improve that cause I'm not super stoked about getting rid of my Sony and switching to different brand, but the quality of the evf is really important to my while taking pictures.. Anyway, thank you if you'll find my comment and find some time to answer it. Take care and Merry Christmas. Filip

Hi Mark, I realize it's a rather old movie, but I have a question. I have both the a7r2 and R3, and I wonder if any of the sony cameras have a monitor diopeter correction. I'm starting to develop farsight and need to remove my glasses to see up close. The EVF diopeter settings work great for me, but I wonder if there is a hidden setting for the monitor itself.
@AlphaCreativeSkills Жыл бұрын
No Monitor diopter menu correct ion but you may find an after-market product that attaches to the monitor with a diopter correction. Start with the brand 'Hoodman' and work from there.
@kevinleal14433 жыл бұрын
Is it normal for the live quality seen in the EVF to be less quality/grainy than the one seen after the picture has been processed? I find that it's not sharp what I'm seeing, even after adjusting the diopter, compared to the photo being processed and viewed after.

As outlined in the video you can lower the quality of the live view by increasing the frame rate or leaving anti-Flicker on.

I hope to be able to do this but SONY prioritise gear reviewers in the USA and didn’t even send a single pre-release copy of the lens to Australia 🙁 I have tried to appeal to Sony’s better judgement by outlining the fact that I am possibly their most followed Ambassador on KZbin, but this has yet to have made a difference. The bottom line is that it will most likely be selling before my review become available.

Thank you for your response! I’m in the US and very much follow you and learned a bunch with your outstanding Sony videos. The question to Sony is what difference does it make where you are in the world anymore with the advent of social media and KZbin. Not one of the US reviewers discussed or showed any examples of how this lens will fair in landscapes photography. Most of them discussed how good it will be for Vloggers, which means absolutely nothing for me in order to make a decision. Anyway, thank you Mark!

Thanks for your videos Mark. I recently acquired an A7IV and would like to ask about the use of creative styles and the viewfinder image. Upon hearing this information, it sounds great to be able to dial in your viewfinder image with the creative styles. Upon use one finds Creative Styles are disabled if Picture Profiles are activated! Is there any kind of middle ground? I find the VF brightness and color settings alone to be quite limited given mirrorless cameras are all about WYSIWYG. I would enjoy more capabilities to dial in the VF image for more confidence in shooting stills & video. Thanks for your input!
@AlphaCreativeSkills2 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you mean by ‘middle ground’. It is either Creative Style + D-Range Optimizer or Picture Profile. Those are the only tools available for modifying the finder view.

@@AlphaCreativeSkills Hello Mark. Thanks for your reply. I did not know the picture profiles affected the viewfinder as I was using an external monitor when setting up my PP for video. Personally I would love to be able to see Mode, drive mode, focus mode, focus area, AF ON and metering mode but with the histogram on the bottom right corner. Hi Mark! Is a magenta hue on highlights normal on screen? I bought a7c recently, comparing it to A7iv, the a7c screen has a MAGENTA HIGHLIGHTS which is in contrast to what is in the viewfinder. The raw outputs are fine so I guess it's the screen which has the problem. I have read few reviews where they have the same problem.
@AlphaCreativeSkills2 жыл бұрын
It's there but it's not an issue for me. The finder and monitors are just tools to aid framing. There is something to be said for some Raw shooters who may find it beneficial to use a Black and White Creative Style instead of viewing the scene in colour, as this would help them see the light and shadows in a scene, which often goes unnoticed by some photographers.

Regarding your comment about the IPC Icon I agree that it is not practical to keep it in the viewfinder display. I deal with this by monitoring the # if images left in the cards. As you know using the camera in non-APC mode the counter displays a lower # of shots left and when on APC mode a higher # and that is wha I use as a guide,. It will be great if Sony would allow for the # of images left in a card when in APC mode show in one color and when normal mode displayed in a different one. For example green for regular and red for APC mode.

Hi, Mark, Around 6:19 in your video, you briefly discuss the For Viewfinder view for the Monitor, a display mode I quite like. I've discovered, though, that the Function menu on the right side doesn't reflect my custom Function menu (that I've created using your other, excellent tutorials). When I activate the Function menu using the For Viewfinder display mode, it activates that particular Function menu rather than my custom one. In fact, it's the same Function menu shown in the video, which makes me think that it's a default Function menu configuration for the For Viewfinder display mode. When I move to a different Monitor display mode, my custom Function menu choices appear. So my question is: I can get my custom Function menu choices to appear in the For Viewfinder Monitor display mode?

@@AlphaCreativeSkills Ah, so that's why you said hidden! Thanks Mark. I love all your videos by the way. Great resources, especially when I switched to Sony 9 months ago. Keep up the great work!

Can I , shut off the automatic playback on the EVF and still maintain liveview thru the EVF ? I do not want to see the image I shot on the EVF , only on the rear screen . Thanks
@AlphaCreativeSkills4 жыл бұрын
Yes you can turn off the automatic playback (it is off by default on most of the latest Alpha camera). It turns it off for the Finder and the Monitor but you only have to press the playback button to quickly see your last shot.

Hi Mark - not sure what setting ive changed on my a73 menu but now when im shooting the previews are 'desaturated' and look pretty bland - i was showed a while back what to change on there and was getting pretty much true to colour punchy previews when shooting, any ideas what i could try changing in the menu to where i was

I have a question regarding to the speed lite . I notice that there is a slight delay when shooting with speed lite on . What could be the problem ? A7 III + Godox V1 and 860 II for Sony
@AlphaCreativeSkills4 жыл бұрын
Godox is your problem as there is no delay with Sony flashes. You may be able to find workflows to minimise the delay but ultimately Godox has to create a flash that has better communication with a Sony camera. Maybe the Godox Ambassador can advise.

Help!! My display switches off to black whenever I‘m standing behind, and the finder get automatically activated. If I move the camera to the right or to the left or perpendicular the display get activated again. It’s a sony A7m3. Now, I switched the finder completely off to circumvent this issue. But it's annoying! Does anyone have a helpful idea.

Pull the Monitor a fraction of an inch away from the camera and the problem is resolved.

Is there a way to get the water-scale to show while shooting on the big display screen and not just in the viewfinder?

Do you have any way to fix the slight red/magenta hue in finder and screen? Both are consistent of not showing same color seen in calibrated monitor. I don't mind it being differ slightly but the hue is too noticable
@AlphaCreativeSkills4 жыл бұрын
Yes - go to the White balance and move the target anywhere on the colour box

@@AlphaCreativeSkills it doesn't solve anything. You change that box, you also change the result. My problem is the same as this guy www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4275722?page=2
