Is the camera still a good consideration in 2025?? 0:30
@AlphaCreativeSkills23 сағат бұрын
It's still a good camera. My reviews of the newer A7R cameras usually include tables of settings to say what features have been updated. The sensor resolution climbed from 42 megapixels to 60 megapixels with the A7RIV but the high ISO performance and dynamic range of the A7RIII is still excellent. There are simply dozens of improvements in the later model so you would need to watch A7RIV and A7RV videos to establish if the new features are something that you really don't need in your own photographic workflows. If you require some of the newer features, then a 33 megapixel A7IV may be a better option than an older 42 megapixel A7RIII if you are on a budget.

On the later cameras that have 'BULB timer' we can use times longer than 30 Seconds and use BULB without a remote release.

We released the A6700 which is very good but Sony still has not released a super camera I wish a sensor stack like Fujifilm that has the Sony sensor that can also do more shift and many other things Sony puts on the market only devices for the rich but they do not pose the problem of the less wealthy who can afford a high-end APS-C Thank you

This is not the right forum (a review of a flagship camera) to express your thoughts about APS-C cameras. Sony are well aware their budget APS-C ZV-E10 cameras are their best selling cameras, so I think they will develop future cameras with this in mind.

@AlphaCreativeSkills8 күн бұрын
It would be a big and expensive lens but it might find a market for photographers willing to pay for one. In the meantime I recommend using two bodies, one with an 85mm F1.4 GM II and the other with a 135mm F1.8 GM and use A1 or A1 II cameras so you can crop tighter in post to get the 135-300 angle of view.
@justinhatchvisuals8 күн бұрын
@AlphaCreativeSkills that would be lovely. I do use my 35 and 135 at times when there is poor lighting. The A1II is a fantastic camera, but I love the file sizes on my A9III. My A1 was such a space hog. I can't wait to see what the A1III will bring. With Sony's innovation, I can see them squeeze an 85 to 200 F2 in the size of the 300mm F2.8

Mark, now that you have travelled extensively with this lens, do you find that you use it in only in specific cases (ie low light abilities, or sharpness/detail/image quality) vs using a 70-200mm F4 G lens? Just curious if your opinion on it has changed and how you feel it fits into your lens selection.
@AlphaCreativeSkills10 күн бұрын
I travelled with this lens for 10 weeks and can fully understand why it was voted as the best prime lens this year by PetaPixel. The only 70-200 lens I own is the F4 Macro G II, as I always prefer to use 85, 90 and 135 primes instead of F2.8 zooms. Since returning from my travels I have been busy reviewing the A1 (primarily with longer focal length lenses) and the FE 28-70 F2 zoom, so have had little time for my own work, where portrait primes feature more heavily in the workflow. I offer multiple gear choice seminars to my Patrons on Patreon.com/markgaler to help them make appropriate choices of gear that will meet their specific photographic needs. Premium Plus patrons are also supported via a Q&A forum. It is impossible to give someone advice without knowing about their budget, the other lenses they own, the size of their camera bag, whether they use a second camera body and what types of photography they engage in.

Thanks, Mark! Any suggestions how to make use of Zebras to protect highlights when shooting JPG+RAW using Picture Profiles that feature other than Still gamma an the auto Knee setting (which I guess is the standard when no PP is used). I noticed that when keeping all exposure settings constant, but using a different gamma (i.e. not Still) and/or knee setting, the Zebra area (set to 109+) increases or decreases (sometimes to zero) although the RAW should be unaffected by the PP settings when shooting fully manual. So with PP off, I may have reduced the exposure because of the Zebras appearing. But using a certain PP, I may unintentionally overexpose, because there were no Zebras, or underexpose, because of the knee setting. .... When I'm using PP's I am doing this to get nice JPGs #sooc, of course, but very often I play with RAW files too. Hence, I would like to get the exposure right also when using PP's. So I would much appreciate if you have any recommendation how to do this right.
@AlphaCreativeSkills10 күн бұрын
This video tutorial offers a workflow that many may not have considered but does not discuss specific cameras used at different ISO values. When absolutely accuracy is required for a specific camera at a specific ISO my recommendation is to test and test again. Most of the industry professionals shooting movies do not use Zebras to monitor over-exposure. They use Zebras to monitor skin tones. I offer consultancy support, above and beyond this KZbin channel, on my Patreon.com/markgaler support channel.

Have 2 Alpha 1, I am very disappointed with the Alpha II What about video 8K 60 FPS and 6K 60 FPS ? The competition can do it and much cheaper. It's just being talked up here, Good By Sony!
@AlphaCreativeSkills14 күн бұрын
This is an excellent upgrade for my needs - 50% faster FPS with AF Tracking, 50% better AF Tracking for birds and partly obscured animals, 50% better SteadyShot, 50% more decisive shots because of Pre-Capture + dozens of other improvements over the A1. Unfortunately most serious wildlife/sports shooters who have invested in good glass cannot afford to change their cameras for a competing manufacturers camera body, as most of their telephoto GM primes cost much more than the camera, and they would stand to lose significant amounts of money by changing systems. If a Sony photographer was to move to Canon they would no longer get the option to choose Sigma or Tamron lenses and Nikon and Canon glass is usually slower and heavier and not quite as sharp. Most photographers are in this the long haul, so have to accept that no one manufacturer will have all the best features at any one time. I personally don't have a computer than could handle 8K 60 FPS, but I would like to see 6K options (even though I only have 4K screens).

A couple of questions: 1) How good is the corner-to-corner sharpness on this lens, especially at the 24 mm setting, and would F4 and beyond improve sharpness at the corners? 2) How good are the micro details from this sensor? I think a more meaningful comparison would've been against the 35,50 and 85 1.4 GMs , those are the lens that most pros use and would be potentially. interested in this lens. I tried this past weekend at my local camera shop where they had Sony and other vendors demoing their goods, and they had the Ai II + the 28-70. took pics and saved on my SD card, my impression was : 1) Not as heavy as it may sound, 2) Sharp , 3) Background blur was noticeable from 50 to 70 mm , not so much below that compared with the 2.8 .........the camera ergonomics is great, the lens, IMO., may not be worth he money, I was hopping to get the same WOW that I got when I bought my 135 1.8 GM, but, I did not get from the brief test ...perhaps a longer test may be more meaningful

I usually start at -1.00 for fill flash but you have to apply the same approach to flash comp. as you would with exposure comp when using flash as the primary light source. e.g., groom in dark suit -1.00, Bride in white dress +1.00, but that also depends on some of the exposure settings you have set on your camera, e.g., 'Face priority in Multi-Metering'. I offer full guidance on my Patreon.com/markgaler support channel.
