For me, The airpod pros fell out much much more than the xm4s. I found the xm4s generally much more comfortable, and am excited to see it get even better.

I had Bose quiet Comfort airbuds first version. Had them 2 years, but they have been in Quaranty in a month and waiting answer from the Bose company. The best thing would be to get money back which was 236€ and buy these new Sony Airbuds or upgrade to Bose Quiet Comfort airbuds II. Will see what happens 😊

Thanks CEO! I have smaller ears and have been waiting for these for some time. I have a pair of WH-XM3's which I love. I'm going to pick these up in a few weeks. I read somewhere online that the spatial audio is very- limited. It does not work with Dolby Atmos Music such as Amazon Music or Apple Music, but I read someone had it working on a Pixel 7 Pro with Netflix. I'm not too worried about the spatial audio feature but thought I would point it out. I've been waiting a while for these and glad to see they should fit my smaller ears now! Keep up the excellent work!

The problem i had with the xm4 was that when you turned up the volume and you almost reached max level, instead of turning up the volume, they kind of turn up the mids and the highs instead. Which completely fucks up the sound. Is that still the same?

Great review. It just doesn't justify the price tag difference. I thought sound quality was dramatically improved and or ANC but, what you said about the fit is completely subjective and may apply for someone with small ear canals, still adapter make up for it. So, all in all, Id keep the xm4's until further notice. Appreciate your very informative review

I actually love foam tips. They take the ANC to another level in my experience. I've only had my xm5s for a couple of days but I'm very happy with them so far.

@markhannan82 definitely test all the tips. Usually large works for me but I had to go with medium for these. Squeeze the foam tips on all sides then gently twist into your ear until the buds rest comfortably. The tips will expand to the shape of your canal.

Do the XM5 still have the thumping issue that the Xm4 has when running? I love my Xm4's but running with them are quite annoying as I can hear every time my feet hit the track.

I have big ear canals. So I have both XM4 and I just got my XM5 yesterday. I like the XM4 more because they fit perfectly with a large Bose QC2 ear tip. Now the XM5 are so small for my ear canal I had to use Medium Bose ear tips. So would take time to get use too. But ear tips give me a perfect seals

Will these have the battery issue like the 4s? Mine would drain in 15mins but had sent them back and they gave me new buds. Also i downloaded a separate eq and it helps way more than the sony default one. It boosts or cuts and is just enhances it all.

This is really helpful. I'm considering the XM5 buds; I have the headband-type XM4s and they're perfect, except I sometimes get headaches from the headband squeezing my head, and loosening it just makes them wobbly. I'd also like to use the buds for working out, so I'm relieved that they are water resistant. Thanks again!

Great video. The XM4's are too big for me also. Thinking about getting the XM5's now. As for cleaning the foam tips, I just take them off the ear bud and run them under hot water for a bit and then let them air dry.

I’ve notice no difference with the XM4 with silicone or memory foam tips in terms of noise cancellation. My ear favors silicone as well.

Just purchased these coming from the xm4 and the difference is incredible. Not only are they smaller. They are also easier to get out of the case due to the redesign and the noise cancellation just seems better to me as well.

I got the xm5's. Love them but a few gripes. Slippery case and buds, the control layout should have a user set option, they automatically connect even in the closed case even when I disconnect them, and they keep jumping between noise canceling and ambient sound modes. But I do love them overall.

Excellent review! I love that they reduced the size for the XM5s, but I find that they feel less stable in my ears. Once I switched to the Comply foam tips for the XM4s, I didn't experience problems with fit. The XM5s, however, seem to keep wanting to slip out. It almost feels like I can't get them deep enough in my ear canals to stay put. I'm also not a huge fan of the glossy finish, which makes them slippery and doesn't seem to grip to my ears well.

I decided my XM4 earbuds were virtually the same in sound as the XM5. But both are better than my Linkbuds S. So I passed on the XM5’s, along with the reasons that the glossy surface is easy to scratch and there’s no increase in battery life despite a smaller shape.

Your comment "no increase in battery life despite a smaller shape" is contradictory though. A smaller shape would usually mean lower battery life since the battery space will have to be smaller. The fact that it stays the same despite the smaller profile is actually better battery life.

I never had a problem with the xm4 earbud size, but I did find the foam tips were too small to get a consistent seal in both ears though. I resorted to getting larger silicone tips. I hoped Sony would have actually catered for bigger ears this time as well.

I have been using my WF-1000XM4 for all this year and i just lost one hearbud I have been so sad since that; I was gonna buy the same headphones until i saw thisss! I am soo excited. My fav. Feature is that when I talk they change to transparency and pause!!(savior for that time when I worked at that factory where i want supposed to use them hehehe)

The native volume control on the XM5 is very poorly realised. Outside of play/pause, volume access is the next most used feature and to have to tap a bud 4 times to make just one increment in volume is simply ridiculous. I tried a pair this week and it was an awful experience. I harked back to my set of Bragi Dash pro which allow you to simply swipe forward or back to turn the volume up or down. Perfect control system. I could mute those buds in the time it would take to tap 4 times on the XM5 for a single increment or reduction. It's better than nothing for sure, just poorly realised.

I’m a big fan of Sony products, I believe Sony one of company has being working well generating top level of sound quality but honestly speaking when I bought my Sony WF-Xm10004 the battery was completely annoying after 8 months used so this time will and see if this one pack with better battery life.

I had to use the warranty to replace a battery. I think it was due to firmware or a charging method.

@@firestone34 they claimed it needed 5V charger and that caused battery issue but if USB IF certified, not sure why that is a problem. i think it is firmware from experience (went back to around 5 hrs use tho not full 8 hrs post factory initialization) but there are others who say it is combination of battery + firmware issue

Thank you, nice review. Unfortunately, I am one a growing number who believe that the noise cancelling is abysmal and disappointing. It maybe that I have ear canals that are incompatible with the earbuds. Certainly compared to the Bose Ultra and Jabra Elite 10 which just work straight out of the box. They certainly don’t drown background noise as illustrated in your video.

i have both. and i read that with anc in general you have the issue with some white noise. but with the xm4 there is none. with the xm5 you can clearly hear it. it sounds like you are at the ocean.

seems to me the microphone is even better on xm4, although it is the worst mic in compare to the other headphones like apple or samsung ... so shame. Otherwise I like these, the smaller size! I use xm4 two years and I like the sound. Noise cancelation is not working so well anymore, but I am not sure (don't remember) if is it the same from the beginning and now just my feeling (?) or is it going worse, so it is changing in time (?) Any other experiences with this feeling about noise cancelation in passing some time (a year or two) ?

Def a step up for you based on your ear size. My ears a bit bigger than yours and xm4 still feels bigger but still not a bad fit so idk if im ready to upgrade. Maybe if budgets not bit tight right now. Because to me the only selling point for me here for the 5 is the size, thats it. Great review.

I wonder how easy it will be to replace the battery's when the time arises? When I spend this amount of money, I want to be able to repace the battery's and at some point, choose how far I want to charge my ear buds (90% / 80% / 70%). I don't always want my earbuds at 100%, this is hard the battery's.

I got these earbuds and I can't get a good seal with Sony's eartips. Only with the largest ones, inconsistently, and only if I shove them down my ears till it hurts. Luckily I had SpinFit eartips I bought for the XM4s and the M size seal easily without needing to shove them down my ears and are much more comfortable.

Hi, thanks for your review. The new EQ option is also available in Linkbuds S , but I don’t think it’s a special feature. You can set your EQ manually, but it doesn’t offer anything you haven’t had before. One weakness of Sony’s sound is the EQ. When you increase it, there isn’t much difference, especially in high frequencies.

Hi! Can the touch controls be turned off / disabled completely? Or are they super sensitive? I recently returned the Bose QC Ultra earbuds, the touch controls were too sensitive which kept pausing music even with just my hair brushing past it! So annoying. 😅 love your videos btw 👍
