This radio has a texas instruments class d ic. Capable of 100w per channel rms at 24v but sony is running it at 16 to 18v max and thats why 55w rms..

That thing is a BEAST!!!! I have it in my vehicle. Make sure you get higher wattage speakers for this radio. It is a keeper. I'd get another one in a heartbeat.

Awesome review 👍 I just ordered one on Crutchfield. I'm not a big fan of the giant LCD screens in everything today. Everyone I've seen is insanely bright while driving at night, and the audio output is subpar, and don't get me started on the price of them... this is perfect for what I need.

Nice but didn't they corner themselves from ever selling a front stage amp. Maybe this is a good marketing move bring up their other lacking head units. I'm a kenwood fan but this is very enticing. I like it!

I Wish they would utilize the fact that it's a double din and make the chassis double din so they could put a bit bigger amp in there, and maybe bump it up to 55 or 65W RMS. For what it is I'll just get the cheaper single din, though I'd like the double din.

How come no 2ohm testing. We all dont have all these fancy tools. The last single din radio that sony came out with was 54watts rms at 4ohms and sonic electronics called sony up and asked can the radio do 2ohm. Sony said yes but put it on the box it cant just to play it safe. The 2ohm test got 72 watts rms. The radio is hard to find and sony came out with the new ones that only do 45 watts at 4ohms. I want to see a 2ohm test done

I swear most who comment literally have no clue what they are talking about. It's actually kinda SCARY. Oh and BTW if you could... Do a review on skar audio. The DDX-12 sub is priced very well 169$ for the 1,000 watts RMS you get. And their neo magnet mid range speakers are SERIOUSLY KILLER. 10 in I have is so clean even up in super high volumes.

Just bought one. The seller seems to indicate it could take a half a month to get to me. This question is both to the Author & any of you who have experience with high powered head units. How imperative is it that a unit like this has to be hooked directly to the battery? I have a 2012 Nissan Altima. I currently have the Sony MEX n4200b in the car with the Factory Blaupunkt speakers. It sounds amazing with 55 peak wattage and 17 rms. I have the harness plugged into the adapter harnesses.

yes but you wont be pushing the max power you could to those speakers. if the amps rms is lower than the speakers rms you can use it 100%. if the amps rms is higher than the speakers rms you will get distortion and damage your speakers
