The XB30 blows the Charge 3 and Flip 4 away! I have both. Volume is much louder, deeper bass and much fuller and wider stereo sound. Sony wins without a doubt. Also very happy with the XB40 and XB20.

Salty if you download the app, put bass on maximum, mids 2 notches higher, bass on maximum and it will sound clearer, cleaner, deeper bass and also louder

it took only 3 minutes for me to choose it over charge 3, charge 2+, soundlink mini and xb 40. Xb 40 roars with its thumping bass but loses out on clarity. I wont say it is crystal clear, but for indian vocals and bollywood, xb series all the way.

You are supposed to use the Sony equalizer app because treble is default to ZERO. You should know that.

I'm surprised about your opinion on the xb30 ... Oluv was very impressed with it, but he did use the Sony app to tweak the treble and bass. In his testing it made the charge 3 sound terrible,

My current setting is BASS + 9 | MIDS - 2 | TREBLE + 9. Till 40-50% Vol. without XBass - over 50-60% Vol. with XBass. With these or similar settings the XB30 sounds really good and strong, and is maybe the best outdoor speaker deal for ~80 $/€ at the moment! Out of the box only the xb20 sounds good. All the other SRS and also the XB30 needs the setup with the fuXXXing Sony App - i can't understand why Sony doesn't give the speakers a neutral setting, maybe that way they try to compel the users to use the app. I made the setup and uninstall the app. DOSS Soundbox XL plays much better deep bass (60 - ~25 Hertz) than the XB30 but it's an indoor speaker. Whereas the XB30 has the better punch at 70-80 Hertz and plays louder and little clearer and more "completly" than the DOSS XL at max. Vol.. The DOSS loses his Mids somehow at high levels, but i noticed that only in the direct comparison with the XB30... I have both and they are great! Nevertheless thanks for the review, although it's older... I subscribed your chanel, keep up the good work.

I've watched a lot of Bluetooth speaker reviews - yours and clavinejunkie are amongst the best. After buying a couple of speakers on you guys recommendations I can say without doubt that you know what you're talking about - but there's a fine line between testing this kind of speaker inside and outside - what sounds bassy indoors might sound very different in the wild. Bass gets lost ect.. So maybe Sony is aiming this kind of speaker for people who need a party speaker who are sitting around grilling and drinking with each other instead of a controlled home situation.. While my musical tastes are eclectic but I generally do not listen to Dance/Rap/Drum & Bass music. I prefer the tighter base, more melodic bass playing of Chris Squire and Geddy Lee. For my more Rock and blues orientated music collection, the XB30 performs well. I have purchased two XB30s so I can use them in stereo mode. I will be using them principally, but not exclusively, as laptop speakers. Initially, I was far from entirely happy with my choice. I too felt that the sound of the cymbals were hard to pick out and pairing with my laptop and setting up in stereo mode took time and patience (connecting with my phone using NFC was instant). However, the sound has improved significantly as the speakers have been run in a little and connection is almost instant. I have now got the hang of how to set two speakers up in stereo. I use MusicBee player on my laptop and have set the equaliser to Treble Booster. If playing from my phone, I have used the Sony Music Centre App so the middle is +3dB and treble +6db. With the Extra Bass off, I have a sound that I am happy with. Another thing worth noting is that the Sony SRS-XB31 is due for release (in the UK) on 5 April so there are some good deals on the XB30s at the moment. I bought each speaker for 34990KZT/£77/$109 so I have a more spatial, stereo sound for the same price as a single JBL charge 3. I had been considering splashing out on the much more expensive Bose Revolve+ but forward facing peakers, rather than 360°, are more suited to my general set-up. Having lived with the speakers for 3 days, I am now pleased with my choice.

The speaker needs to wear out a little to achive its maximum quality. I was also really disapointed the first days of use, but now it couldn't sound better. No need to equalize trough the app. Fantastic speaker.

I watched another review from Jim's review room and he had no complaints about the treble I don't know if they updated the software of the speaker since his review was done around July or October as opposed to yours being done in April of 2017, but maybe it's literally that you just need to play with the EQ if there hasn't been a software update. I randomly check this out on eBay and was surprised that its gose for as low as 65 bucks I'm thinking about grabbing it just for the heck of it before I get the new XB31 which I'm sure won't disappoint!

Nithin Raj M I don't know if your ears don't work properly but I just said that the XB30 is a bad speaker out of the box. With the EQ it's a great speaker and one of the best in this class. Iam not sure if JBL would pay a little kid with just over 5000 subs on KZbin for saying that another speaker isn't as good. I also doubt that they wanted me to say that treble on the charge 3 sucks.

What a contrast listening to the Sony and Flip 4 side by side. Sony's lack of treble becomes very apparent but the Flip's lack of bass also sounded pretty apparent to me. Are you sure you would rate the Flip's base at 8?

I bought it for 90$ no joke. For 90$ its an absolute no brainer. And the sound is way better than the JBL Flip 4 and JBL Charge 3 I am not kidding I owned both of them ( and both were stolen from me ) but the treble isnt muffled and the bass is really strong.

Sony's always had some issues, I remember 2 years ago wanted to buy and I was comparing them to many other speakers and in most cases I liked the bass but had no clarity and bass was so deep that it was just moving the speaker around 💪 if I remember right it was the x7 but what put me off most was the dsp constantly in each bass beat the volume jumps up and down .

jB Tejero forget charge 3, The xb30 gets clearer than it when you increase the trebles through the app. Or You should consider the Bose reverse + since the smaller one is half the size of xb30. Or maybe wait for the charge 4. I believe at the moment the xb30 is the best in its price range.

Of course the xb30 is going to sound worse, you literally gave zero time for the drivers to break in. It takes at least an hour before the treble clears up and it stops sounding muddled. Do another comparison after break in because otherwise it's completely pointless.

You totally missed the point. Speakers of this size class don’t need break in and even if they needed it, a few weeks of break in wouldn’t increase the muffled treble of the Sony by several dB. The real issue is that they messed up the tuning and that you need to equalize the treble in the Sony SongPal app:

Every other reviewer has commented on how it sounded muddled straight out of the box until an hour after playing it at a decent volume. The mids and highs start to clear up and it sounds SIGNIFICANTLY better. As you said, it sounded better in the store (because it was broken in). The difference between the two isn't nearly as drastic as this video implies.

No, the units in the store were unboxed 15 minutes before I bought it. Well then, show me a measurement of the Xb30s treble increasing by at least 3dB after the break-in as this is how much I had to push treble in the Sony app after the video. In my case the speaker sounded muffled (without EQ) even after 2 weeks. Clavinetjunkie can tell you the same here, he has it since month and it still sounds like this without the help of the EQ.

My 8yr old daughter's pink Bush CD player sounds better than this. I find this is a very synthetic sound, something that just goes thump and flashes... I'm sure I could buy a drum for less! Good review :-)

Speaker Toni is it worth the money though in your opinion? I had 2 of the SRS XB40s on pre order and cancelled it due to bad reviews. I really wanted to like these speakers, but who limits the volume on a £200 speaker, then says it's battery lasts 24hrs, if I want to listen to my speaker full blast I should be allowed to do so. For that money I would like a tweeter in there too. Perhaps we are meant to look into the lights and we will be somehow hypnotised into buying these. In my opinion from what I have seen I'd rather buy a £17 strip of LED lights and spend the rest on a decent speaker.

jB Tejero the Bose revolve is too small, I would suggest the Bose revolve+. Concerning charge3 vs xb30, go in a store wich has the two speakers, raise the trebles on the xb30, and you will find out it does get clearer than the charge3. I'm fan of Jbl, had the charge3 but I couldn't like it.

I also prefer the sound of Charge 3, at least they seem to be very fair competitors. JBL sounds more full bodied for me. According to Clavinetjunkie XB30 is much better than the JBL, but with EQ, which I do not consider fair comparison. Bluetooth speakers should be compared with their original tuning, because I am not a big fan of using some 3rd party applications on my phone, always when I am listening to music and I think I am not the only one:)

Igor B. After you tune the speaker it will stay like that until you tune it again. You do not need to use the app while using the speaker after that.

Igor B. There's a official Sony App. No third Party stuff!!! And also the EQ settings are saved in the speaker after Tuning by yourself. After that You can delete the App.
