TK, one thing you ought to know about Xperia’s, they usually charge slowly from 90% upwards, it’s a battery health protection feature by Sony. So to effectively run the HS test, I would suggest you do it again at a battery level of about 50% or anything less than 80%.

Not sure if you have taken one of those phones apart that have cooling fans but they can get pretty messy inside. Especially if you live in a dusty environment. Heat sinking and thermal paste is enough until a better cooling system is made. Modes like this is what we need. Liquid and fan cooling at the moment just show you how companies are struggling with heat from the bigger processors. Sony are picking up their game again finally, let's hope they roll with it x ♥ x

This an amazing feature indeed! First: I didn't expect the phone to charge at all while using the feature(my Galaxy note 9 would heat up like crazy and when the screen is on the phone will always switch from Quick Charge 2.0 to slow charge). Secondly, I can see this feature implemented in new flagship devices in the performance mode along with for example higher screen brightness/refresh rate, higher CPU/GPU clock speed, higher Wifi/cellular reception and so on👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. Basically *I think* they are monitoring the discharge levels and they slowly charge the device to maintain the current discharge levels you are at. Definitely a nice feature, but it doesn't sound like something "new" that they came up with. The technology was there. Just, no one bothered implementing it, me thinks. In the end, what's the point in having your phone plugged to a power source for several hours? Smartphones were not designed with that in mind, but props to sony for capturing the "gaming" audio with this feature. I love it, especially on my handheld pi emulator. When the battery dies, simply plug the cable to an external battery or an USB port and you can continue to game without having to worry about charging.

Prevention is better than cure. Liquid Cooling is just taking away the heat that comes out from both the SoC and battery, but the heat on the battery is still there, which makes it more stressed and lower its maximum charge capacity that it can hold (basically degrading already). On the other hand, Sony's heat suppression prevents heat from being generated by the battery by not using it heavily for performing tasks like, say playing games. It doesn't charge the phone so that it won't produce heat, which leaves the only main source of heat being the SoC under load, which is very normal for a motherboard when being in use. At least the battery is more protected, which helps prolong its health and have higher maximum capacity contained as time goes on.

And it doesn't use the phone's built-in battery too much, so it is less stressed and therefore, less heat being produced. The only heat source left is the motherboard where the SoC is, but that's basically normal for a hardware being used in a long period of time. Nothing too bad, so long as it doesn't go beyond the threshold where the phone starts to throttle and reduce performance.
