Hello did you test the phone function, il have a Samsung s20 and the hand free is just horrible. When I am on call with hand free, my contact doesn't hear me clearly it s like I was 2 kilometers away from my phone, same problem with my s9 and s10. Also have problem with GPS which lost the fix. That's some basically functions but I want to leave Samsung for Sony. Thanks for your response 👍.

Sony may not have the flash and shine of the Korean or Chinese phones , but they are without a doubt the very best built electronics ever. The hardware is without equal internally . When I see reviewers harp on them that they don't have a certain feature or this or that , they just don't understand what you're paying for. The best build quality in the game. My LG V60 serves me well but now that LG is gone I'll be shopping for a Sony next to get the best quality out there.

Well Sony dropped the headphone jack with the XZ2 until the Xperia 1 ii reintroduced it, so it isn't like Sony always went against the trend. It offers some good things but this will cost about £1099 . The new pixel 6 pro will be about £899 the camera will be far better.
@guitemuvanlai41023 жыл бұрын
@@paulgal Pixel is not even out yet but "it will be better"? I think thats bias, anyway when any phone can give you half of the control that Sony Xperia 1 III can give, when any phone camera have eye tracking for both human & animal alike, when any phone camera have subject tracking, when any phone camera can shoot 20fps, when any phone camera has a variable lens, when any phone camera can shoot jpeg/RAW/jpeg+RAW we can talk about which camera system is better, anybody with brain will prefer a DSLR camera over any point and shoot camera, sony xperia 1 III is the DSLR version of a Smartphone For those people who are not in photography can use the normal auto mode, but people who want to get what they want they want access to as many controls as they can to get their desire shot, Sony just give you that, we don't buy a flagship phone to used it for just one or two years, we buy to used it as long as it last so there is plenty of time to understand the use of those camera settings, I think it will be fun to have that kind of phone, buying a flagship phone where AI gives you what it wants weather you like it or not you have to agree becoz you can't do anything about it, I want to be in control especially when paying a flagship price tag, AI doesn't know what I want but I do
@paulgal3 жыл бұрын
So why would you spend that much on a phone if you already own a DSLR ? I have a Sony a7 which cost me £799 with sigma 1.4mm £250. The Sony 1 iii can't compete . There is no need for this phone if you have a DSLR camera. Unless you want something a little smaller but again it it's not going to compete.
@guitemuvanlai41023 жыл бұрын
@@paulgal Not everyone is a pro photographer or film maker, but smartphone is a daily driver for everyone, you can't carry your DSLR everywhere you go, however your smartphone stays in your pocket at all times, that will come handy from time to time Now a days smartphone is not just for making calls or texting, its way more than that and the competition is tough for smartphones brands, they're pushing the limit every time they release a new flagship phone for improved and new features, Sony is one brand that keeps improving and bringing new features to their phone that no other brand does, so even for normal people like me a smartphone with pro camera features and settings is a big deal and I appreciate their effort, those features will be fun to play with!!

I would buy this for the jack and DAC/AMP implemented in the phone which allow me to use it in a really hi-fi sound and not just in paper as many other phones.
@WirxawTanev3 жыл бұрын
Don't get your hopes up, there is no DAC. Sony's DACs are not only subpar, but they are exclusive and so overpriced that Earpods Studio feel like a steal. So you ain't getting any in your phone. It just has some software gimmicks on top of the standard Qualcomm Aqstik shlock. And, yeah, DSEE is cancer. And Atmos is covid. Neither have anything to do with audio quality and are auto-disable, tested on numerous devices(including Sony). If you want DAC - last time I checked it's only ASUS that have picked up LG\ESS's legacy of 9218p quaddac and Vivo that do source a good CirrusLogic DAC, but for whatever reason have abandoned the jack, so it's not really an advice, at least I can't verify it. Other than that there is no good mobile audio whatsoever. I ain't saying you shouldn't buy it if you have cash to burn, just... DON'T buy it for the audio. Really. It's not there. And it will never be.
@TheMagnitudo3 жыл бұрын
@@WirxawTanev can you please let me know which model of ASUS and/or VIVO are you talking about ? thank you
@WirxawTanev3 жыл бұрын
@@TheMagnitudo First of all I'd like to clarify, as a disclaimer, that the Sony phone I have tested was Xperia XZ Premium, the first one with 4k display, and it was tested against Axon 7(the phone that was all about the DAC). Maybe, just "maybe" Sony has changed something after their last XZ3 and in their new "1 \ 10" lineup. There is no(and never was) an indication of a DAC in their product sheet, however, they are advertising some "360 reality audio" and "Thanks to improvements to materials and electronic components, the 3.5mm audio jack on the Xperia 1 III not only offers convenience but also delivers high fidelity sound quality. " Key words here "electronic components". Maybe they have an amp there, these things are rather tricky to find out and the manufacturers rarely spell it out. All I'm saying is that there are about 3 brands of DACs available to the smartphones: CirrusLogic, AKM and ESS, and I know that Sony would never use someone's tech, nor properly illustrate their own. And I don't think that paying 1500-2000$ for an "audiophone" is reasonable. I hate Apple, but you might as well just buy an iphone and get a microDAP, something like Shanling M0(old model, 99% sure there are better options now, just giving as a reference) and stuff it in your front pocket or clip it to your shirt\t-shirt neck. However, as far as I know, the phones with confirmed DACs so far are: 1. ASUS ROG Phone 5(has inherited LG\ESS's ES9218p quad-dac(don't let it fool you, it's just a mobile-grade dac), listed in ASUS' slides\datasheet) 2. Asus Zenfone 8\8Flip(is not listed on the official ASUS datasheet, but other websites are reporting that it sports Cirrus Logic CS35L45 and a couple of amps(I assume for the speakers). If anything, this is a +-600$ device "for a try" and not a 1500$+ one. 3. For Vivo phones it's a bit tricky. Their X60 lineup does advertise a DAC, but they lack the headphone jack, so I wouldn't... bank on its audio quality, especially since I assume your goal is to power some decent 300$+ overhead monitors. Their last "with a jack" phone was IQOO 3, and unofficially it has AK4377A, which is something between a DAC and a codec, so it's also not a competition to 9218p, for example. I'd only recommend X60Pro\Pro+ if you will use wireless and want a photo quality that's closer\better than 1-III(you can even @Ben(channel author) himself, he reviewed both phones) and above Zenfone. 4. LG series(available very cheap from amazon for US clearance). All with ES9218p. V60 as their latest "failure", but still a decent device with somewhat decent camera and that is still a flagship-grade device. If ROG 5 is a ~600$ device, then, naturally, V60 should be 600$ or less to even begin considering. G8 that retails for ~300$ if I recall - is actually an underdog that might eventually disappear from the shelves, but for now it's a rare opportunity to get a compact dual\triple(don't remember if the US version has telephoto camera) quality cameras, oled and SD855 performance for 300$. There's also V50 somewhere in between for 400$. They are also available from Aliexpress, but they are ALL refurbished. In US - it's amazon-handled and there is at least some security, but for the rest of the world - Aliexpress refurbs is a game of risk. You can get a fully operational device for 250-300$... or not. So I wouldn't recommend "that" if you are eyeing something as grand as 1-III. 5. There are also some oldies but goldies like Axon 7, Vivo Xplay 6, Lenovo Vibe X3, Highscreen Boost 3(russian), Meizu 5 Pro or Pro 6 Plus and the grand Titanic - Onkyo Granbeat, the DAP that could never quite become the phone. But they are all quite from a different era and... could only be a good gift for the kid if you also add some 100-200$ headphones. I might have missed some, because many phones have different implementation of Qualcomm Aqstik, some have amps, some have better or worse software support. Heck, Vivo NEX 1, the original, was also a consideration back in the day, but now it's kind of in-between the worst LG and the "past-era". Honestly, if you want real audio quality - consider DAPs. I already said that M0+iphone as a joke, but for 1500-2000$ you can truly set yourself with a flagship phone and outstanding audio quality for the headphones. But that's another wall of text.
@TheMagnitudo3 жыл бұрын
@@WirxawTanev thank you for your extended explanation. I think I'll go on with my Fiio external DAC/AMP ... I just was wishing that I could get rid of it 😃 but seems the time has not come yet. the only thing that's missing for me is a good selfie snapper, but that doesn't mean im not gonna buy this lmao. sony has always been gods when it comes to making phones, and this is no exception. front-facing stereo speakers, headphone jack, and flat-screen are all things that i need in a phone and the biggest reason why i have not planned on upgrading until now.

Thanks so much for the quick review. I'm surprised I haven't seen any news or anything on this release! Very annoying there still is no real news on international release date. At least nothing I can find. Or I might be living under a rock haha

I got Xperia 1 II earlier this year from a sale and I’ve been quite satisfied with it. This phone looks super interesting too but it’s probably going to be priced so high here in EU that I can only dream about buying it… Full review would be nice! I thought exactly the same about how the battery life would be on this one, even 1 II won’t last a one day of heavy use without a recharge so 1 II must drain battery like nuts lol.

It's unfair to compare the native 10x periscope zoom of the S21 when the 1 iii is doing digital zoom at 10x magnification.

In my personal experience I actually like the Dynamic Vibration System when watching movies (at least certain movies) which are enhanced by it and thus making them more immersive... Examples of this for me were 1917, Mortal Kombat, and other action or horror films where sound is crucial (even then I keep it at the lowest setting). Not very helpful in documentaries, standup comedy, etc.

Nice review, thanks for this update. I really wanted to see if the front camera improved over the flaud one on the previous Xperias though, I was hoping you'd touch on it.

You have one of the best channels Ben. Keep it up! What do you think of the design of the camera housing when you see how things look lately? To me, it's just kinda boring and dated. Not talking about the tech behind it, just the design of the housing.

After having and using the SONY Xperia 1 mark ii for almost a year now I can say that the camera system is as good as any other. It's just different. As he points out in the video it is a lot more like using an actual camera. Thus there is a learning curve, and you need to be willing to figure it out. But it sure is fun and allows for more creativity. If what you want are very saturated pictures and you want the phone to do all the work for you then I would say that the Xperia is not for you. Better to stick with an iphone or Galaxy. But if you want a much more natural, and accurate camera like experience that allows for more creativity and actually makes you want to go outside and take pictures......then the Xperia just might be for you. I would always use the comparison between an automatic luxuary sedan vs a manual sports car. They are totally different experiences. An iphone or Galaxy are like automatic sedans. They are comfortable, convenient, and will do most of what you need to be done without requiring too much from you. The Xperia is a lot more like a manual sports car. It's more tricky to drive and you have to learn how to drive it by comparison. But it's also a lot more fun, with a closer to reality feel, and you can push it waaay more.

For me i want this over the 21 Ultra. Samsung doesn't let you use the telephoto camera and 3rd party apps cant access to it.

I dont hate it but Sony shouldve sell it right away after they announce it not like many month later all i can find on KZbin is sample video from Sony for the past month. But yeah this phone is beautiful.

I'm assuming the phone is going to be about 1300 in the US like the previous model. As much as this is the version I want to get, I may just end up getting the 5 iii.

Wow that's galaxy fold price territory. I do like the high dynamic range colour science here. Very natural. A7c that's a nice upgrade.
