I recently got a 1V (21:9 ratio is great for my baby sized hands), and I'm really enjoying learning how to use it. Whenever I do learn how to use a feature, I feel such a sense of accomplishment. Loving the journey of discovery.

Beautiful phone. I’d get it but loving my ultra minimalist Apple Watch cellular and Sony a307 Walkman combo. So yeah. For the price of the Xperia , I’d personally get the new Leica d-lux 8 for a tiny bit more.

This phone is perfect for me. Besides the size, it has the headphone jack, a loooong battery life, and a MicroSD card slot. These are valuable features for me. I cannot stomach the price, however. I'd have to wait until sales come (granted, I might die holding my breath), or miss it completely. I am using the Nokia 8210 4G at the moment, so an upgrade to this would be great.

Love it. The Sony had insane battery life, twice the pixel 8a. And sd card slot and 3.5mm geadphonw socket. Easy choice for me (replaced my Samsung s23 ultra and Apple iPhone 15 pro max).

@@DamianNocun I've grown to appreciate my Sony Xperia more and more. The battery life brings a real sense of relaxation not having to think about battery life. The sd card slot brings a level of versatility for managing the large volumes of multimedia between devices (I'm using a 512gb card mostly for hires audio and also for video). I also like the feel and fit in my hand. Audio quality on wireless beats my old Samsung hands down and the difference with my iPhone is noticeable too. And if course the 3.5mm headphone socket which means I can use my wired IEMs (the Xperia 3.5mm output isn't as good as LG's quad DAC series but jts decent and more versatile than phones without the slot. The camera experience is something I've come to enjoy more and more and to take more time in deciding what to photograph and when. With my iPhone and Samsung I tended to point and click knowing I'd get excellent quality images without much thought. I prefer Sony's finger print sensor on the side compared to on the front, though Apple's faceid is a lot faster and seamless. There's also something about having a device that not so many people have which is something special, with character. When Sony only did 2 years of updates, I couldn't justify buying one. But with 4 years it removes the main obstacle I had. The only real question in my mind is whether you some people might be fine with the 10vi rather than the 1vi. The 10vi also has excellent battery life, audio, sd card slot, 3.5mm headphone socket. It's slightly narrower and lighter which makes it very pocketable and easy to hold. The 10vi is a lot cheaper but the 1vi is a lot faster, more relevant if you're playing games etc and it's camera is a lot better than the 10vi.

It’s a great news videographers tool that can stream RTMP right out of the box. Perfect that I can connect my Sony a7R5 to it when I need even longer telephoto reach or XLR audio connectivity. It’s using USB-C so a very easy and secure connection. Far better than small HDMI-ports. Best news gathering phone ever!

Great vid 🙌 I've got the 1V: the 1VI didn't quite capture me with some seeming 'downgrades' compared with the V - the screen, the less skinny design (the 21:9 ratio is gold and just looks nicer on the Xperia range imo!) and how with the improved point to shoot in the V it hasn't really improved the telephoto lens. Unsure if it will, but hoping Android 15 will somehow improve that tech there; and failing this hoping the 1VII goes back to 21:9, improved lenses all round, longer support and it'll be a real winner!

Thank you. Hard one really, Sony have natural looks, samsung have excellent zoom and photos, iphone have the best video and more consistency, Pixel uses AI too much, so I'd say it depends on the result you want and where you will be sharing the content

Samsung and Iphone camera results looks extremely artificial garbage on both side videos and photos. If you want to get real camera results with more natural colors with 4k 120 videos on all lenses get an Xperia. Battery also significantly better than all smartphones excluding monster gaming phones because there is no useless bloatware programs just clean Android

Im an xperia user for 14 years and i bought them because they were different from the masses but,now they've tried to get extra sales by trying to cater for the mass market which im afraid will not work because their sales strategie is to say the least is crap. I know by going on Sony's websites a lot of xperia diehards are not happy with the way Sony has gone with this device,and will not be buying it something which Sony cannot afford with their very small market share,i for one will not pay £1299 for this device it will have to drop to a more realistic £999 but the biggest fear i have is Sony will go out from the the smartphone market before this decade is out which will be a shame.

Hmmm as soon as I started watching your review and I saw the Apple Watch on your wrist I thought this is a review just because you ought to review the 1vi … you did an ok job … but then I thought , hang on , this phone isn’t the upgrade that we wanted from Sony ! Trying to appease the masses but ending up with a halfway house phone that annoyed die hard fans and threw the flagship right in that little pond dominated by Apple , Samsung and pixel ! The point and shoot camera will NOT appeal to the standard quick click brigade that just wants to post to SM as the photos are not oversaturated enough … and whatever is said that is the way most ( not me or die hard Sony fans) will want to show their photos . The design of the phone is fantastic but once again the target audience is small … it ain’t competing against the big three,and it can’t .. but when you charge £1300 you ought to be able to ! I loved the 1v because it was different enough with a couple of fantastic “I want to use “ features .. music haptics anyone ? The 1v had it … 4k screen .. wow yes please , but they downgraded it to 1080p !!! Why not to QHD ? Also no rotation on the Home Screen .. for some that’s quite important! I used the 1vi for over a week but sent it back … I actually might buy it again just because I want to show support for a brand that is a bit different, but , selling out to the competition just to get a few more sales , I’m sorry Sony you risk losing people like me who value originality over “bubble gum” products that are hugely successful amongst the target audience . Apple , Samsung and to a lesser extent Google .. all have imo inferior cameras but they have two things over Sony… a clear target audience and massive sales .

@@GadgetsBoy thank you for the reply , I think you miss the main point though … Sony are and will remain niche … but they are like a political party trying to chase votes , something they will not succeed in .But imo they are alienating the die hard Xperia fans by pandering to the tik tok brigade ! Sony either have to go the whole way , pretty coloured phones , saturated photos ,etc or cater for their admittedly smaller but truly loyal fan base . Sony was in the 80’s and 90’s quite rightly revered for their quality . But there is a new generation now that don’t want to “frame the shot “ in a camera ( I do, btw) and create a masterpiece.. so don’t aim at that audience.. stick to the niche and yes classic user who appreciated the aspect ratio of before , who bought Sony because they were different enough !

@@stuartbolden2142 I'm actually at the other end of this spectrum, I had previously never owned an Xperia phone as I found them too niche, despite being intrigued as I like Sony products. As soon as I saw the direction they went with the 1 mark VI I got one the day it came out and I absolutely love it. I guess they felt they had to make some changes to try and increase sales as I'm not sure how long they could continue by just making a device that appeals to a small number of niche lovers. It may still not be enough, I can't imagine their sales compared to the likes of Apple or Samsung are very strong at all. So while I understand fans of the previous generations may not be happy with the changes, selfishly they suited me perfectly 🤷‍♂

In a sense they dont need to earn money. Thats a reason why Sony Mobile isnt s thing anymore. Its just Sony. They are part of the camera and television division, in sense hidden. Sony did that to show the world reviewers and techjournalists that all those tumours that Sony would leave the mobilephone market is wrong. So they merged then with two other divisions. Today I do believe is mobile and cameras Sony earn money from and losing money from television.

Nah nahh nah.. since they deleted Pro menu, which was the only one with such design, and imitated Sony cameras style, now it's just as device for a average person, with no different menu from other android system. I've no idea why they deleted that. They could keep it as another app.. I get that, but that phone is let's be honest, mainly made for Sony users, and photo enthusiast. In both cases, they did only worse. And there are phones that destroys Sony cameras, like Xiaomi 14 Ultra, Pura 70 ultra. There is no point anymore to invest into this phone. There is nothing that could lead me to buy this model. There is nothing more left from "Sony" device, it's just a name behind, that's all. S24 Ultra is better than Sony in terms of cameras, and Pura 7 Ultra is a winner comparing to S24 ultra.. That's my opinion.

I get your point for sure. I think there's a place for both a Pro and a Standard device from Sony. In the past, I would have liked them to keep the compact devices they used to make for general users and keep the main ones pro, or now, make a Pro model which has all the stuff most Sony enthusiast likes and a standard model with less pro features.

Just because pics are over saturated, over processed and liked by everyone doesn't make it colour accurate, sharp to detail and everything else that makes a photo what it's meant to be. It's in fact better than most if you want something professional that you van edit after vs something you can't work with after.
