Great detailed review, glad to see there's some Xperia 10 iii reviews in English. It's not the greatest midrange phone out there in terms of cost, but it's a pretty good phone overall for minimalists like me. I also really like the Sony design and colour. Looking at the comments below, I also had the green tint issue. It's pretty much my only gripe about it. Do you think it can be fixed with a software update or best to return it? 😭 Didn't realise there's a significant amount of 10 iii users with the same problem.
@mahammad3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if it's a software or hardware issue. If it's hardware then they'll probably allow you to replace/swap the phone. I'd say wait a few weeks and see if Sony acknowledges the issue.

I have an Xperia XA2 bought right about when it was launched (so getting close to 3.5 years of use now) and I've looking at the 10 Mk III as a possible replacement. Reasons being are: I hate notches/punch hole screens, also I hate big phones and I don't need flagship specs because I'm not a heavy user. The 10 Mk III seems to be the only Android phone with decent specs that fits this bill, offers good value for money and isn't a full on phablet. It's still too big for my liking but I guess I have to make a compromise at some point. On my current contract at Orange I can get it at 338 euros which is a decent drop in cost from the standard price which is 406 euros in my country. But like you said, there's always the option of waiting for a black friday/ christmas sale and get it even cheaper than that. Or wait until Mk IV comes out next year as my XA2 somehow refuses to die out haha. Otherwise good review, phone looks like a standard minimalistic Sony which should be fine for most folk that aren't power users but rather appreciate good build quality and longevity via good battery care (which Sony always delivers).
@mahammad3 жыл бұрын
I admire you for keeping the XA2 for that long 😂 It’s your call, I’m curious if the Xperia Mark 4 will have 90hz display and other upgrades or maybe that phone might come with extremely minimal upgrades just like this year’s. Good luck in making that choice 👍
@mariand.10873 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I go by the rule of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" when replacing phones :)) The Mk3 is already a generous step up from the Mk2 in my view, the upgrades may look incremental but if you look closely there's plenty of stuff that gets improved. Even looking at the battery endurance alone makes the Mk3 a winner for me and a guarantee for longevity. But yeah curious myself as to what they do next year. If they give it a faster refresh rate screen and stereo speakers, the Xperia 10 name becomes a perfect midranger. Slightly disappointed with the video quality on the Mk3 although. There's close to 0 improvement from my XA2, but as a general rule I noticed that Sony doesn't really give a rats ass about picture/video quality on their midrangers. The performance is for the most part worse than the competitors and you can only get some good pictures only if you get perfect lighting and have hands as steady as a tripod.

I too have had a XA2 for nearly 4 years and am still more than happy with its performance. It's the old Android OS that's letting me down. Many new apps only run on Android 10 and above. I needed an Android update to use apps I wanted but was perfectly happy with the XA2. The Xperia 10 iii was the obvious choice. It does everything the XA2 does, in much the same way but with upgraded hardware and software. The XA2 will still be mounted on my handlebars for the next few years.

Xperia 10 II actually had 128GB as well. Tog must mean the generation before. Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 plus wich both had 64GB. And you actually can activate one-handed mode. Just put it in the side-sense. Double tap and the screen shrinks. The black space in the bottom isn't Sonys fault. It's the so not supporting 21:9. If you had the first generation Xperia 10/Xperia 10 plus it is a upgrade. However it's really not a great upgrade from the Xperia 10 II. If it's SoC was the 700 series, and had stereo speakers and probably the camera software from the premium devices. That would have been great. Sadly it ain't.
@mahammad3 жыл бұрын
Hey, I mentioned the base minimum storage increased from I believe 64GB last year to 128GB this year. I haven't found any Xperia 10 III 64GB version so I assume they upped the base storage. I tried the one handed from side sense and it actually works, thanks for letting me know!
@Dragontrumpetare3 жыл бұрын
@@mahammad So you could by a cheaper variant if the Xperia 10 Ii? In Sweden we only had 128GB version. And you are welcome.

Sony UK doesn't sell 64GB but some other UK retailers do, I guess it's being imported from different regions.

Great review. I don't think this phone is worth £400 tbh. If it was like around £250-300 then yeah. It's missing some main key features found on other devices that released this year. For example like a high res camera, high refresher rate, under-display fp.... you get the idea. Keep up the good work bro

Thanks for a great review! I'm looking for a smaller phone and have been following yt for reviews of the 10 III. Did you have any problems with the screen when setting the brightness to low? There are some users on reddit that have some kind of a green tint when doing so. I really like the size of the 10 III and the performance would be enough for me I guess, but it sucks there's no always on display or you cannot remap the google assistant button. I've been using a moto g5s for over 3 years now and I enjoy the motorola gestures/add-ons quite a lot, so I'm also looking for some easy way to turn on the flashlight and to see the time and notifications (it's enough to gently poke the moto and the screen turns on). So I might go with the OnePlus. Anyways, keep up the good work!
@mahammad3 жыл бұрын
Many thanks for your kind words. Yeah I did and still do have issues with the screen. There is definitely a green tint issue on mines and in low brightness the screen flickers between black and grey colour constantly when using dark mode on apps like Twitter or Reddit. I thought it was an issue with the display connector or something and was gonna replace it but had no idea this issue was widespread. I found an XDA article that shows how to remap the button on Xperia 1 II/Xperia 5 II but not on this phone. I don’t think that XDA app is sustainable because Sony could block it at any time. But yeah OnePlus is also a good alternative, have a good day and enjoy yourself 🙌

Thank you for the great and detailed review. I planned on buying this for the camera but seeing the results I'm not so sure anymore. That there's no 60fps video capture mode really surprised me, and the video quality and stability. My Xperia XZ1 which is released in 2017 has 16:9 17MP main camera with 60 fps video capture AND slow-mo feature and somehow my older phone's camera seems better than Xperia 10 III 😔 It's difficult finding a new phone. Haha.
@mahammad3 жыл бұрын
I was gonna recommend the Galaxy A52 5G but the video recording is meh. It does have 60fps recording but the stabilisation is minimal since it doesn't have optical image stabilisation. I've done a video on it few months ago, you can check the camera sample test footage.

That's my dilemma as well having the XZ1, I'm having doubt if I will better off buying this newer phone as per described by the reviewer. I think I'll wait for another Sony midranger to come and hold on to the XZ1.

I want to buy this phone but I already have a problem with the charger. It seems like it's not the normal charger as we know it with round pins to plug it on the wall, these ones look rectangular and I don't have that plug in my house. Please confirm if this is true about the charger. If it's true I'll opt for Mark 1 or 2 provided it too doesn't have a weird charger.

not a good review, since you have to show the features and leave the opinions for the viewer; and the review was really incomplete, lacking things like FM radio, other important apps and user experience in general is very important if it's a feature in the phone which would be the case for this model; surely I'm forgetting a lot of them, just need to take the work of looking for the hardware specs to make a decent video review, sorry, can't say you did a good job.
