After having and using the SONY Xperia 1 mark ii for almost a year now I can say that the camera system is as good as any other. It's just different. As he points out in the video it is a lot more like using an actual camera. Thus there is a learning curve, and you need to be willing to figure it out. But it sure is fun and allows for more creativity. If what you want are very saturated pictures and you want the phone to do all the work for you then I would say that the Xperia is not for you. Better to stick with an iphone or Galaxy. But if you want a much more natural, and accurate camera like experience that allows for more creativity and actually makes you want to go outside and take pictures......then the Xperia just might be for you. I would always use the comparison between an automatic luxuary sedan vs a manual sports car. They are totally different experiences. An iphone or Galaxy are like automatic sedans. They are comfortable, convenient, and will do most of what you need to be done without requiring too much from you. The Xperia is a lot more like a manual sports car. It's more tricky to drive and you have to learn how to drive it by comparison. But it's also a lot more fun, with a closer to reality feel, and you can push it waaay more.

Only people which have experience with shooting with a camera in Manual mode would appreciate this phone to its fullest cz to know what's right, u gotta at least use the real thing. Having used the SONY Xperia 1 mark ii for almost one year now I would describe the camera system in a similar way that you do ....it's just fun. It's because it has so much manual control and options that it actually allows you to be creative and play with it. Now anyone should realise that there is a learning curve. But once you do learn how to use the pro apps ....which are like using a real camera.....you can get some frequently good, and occasionally astonishing results. Now....it's not a camera system if what you are looking for is something like an IPhone or a Galaxy which are basically made for people who know nothing about Photography and just want the phone to do all the work. Then the Xperia is not for you. But if you want to be creative, and you want to have fun figuring it out and seeing how you can push the Alpha designed system.....then Xperia may be for you. I always use the analogy of a luxury sedan vs a manual sports car. An IPhone or Galaxy are your automatic luxury sedans. They will do all you want comfortably and conveniently. But the Xperia is a manual sports car. You need to learn how to drive it and it may not be as convenient in some ways, but you can push it so much more, and you will have waaay more fun doing so. As well as having much more of a natural feel.

Great review. I do however want to add 1 thing, which is not specific to this review but almost every phone review out there. In the photography section it was compared to the S21 Ultra and it was mentioned that the Xperia shows the night scenes "as it is" and the Samsung shows them "how my brain likes to see them". I think that even for people who are not all that into photography there is a great solution that can make a huge difference: install Photoshop on the phone, open the RAW file and do the "1 button correction". You can easily get the same result as the S21 Ultra with the Xperia 1iii (or 1ii for that matter), by just tweaking a few things on the RAW picture and then saving it to JPEG again. Do you want it realistic, you can do that, want oversaturated colors.. sure, no problem, sharpen or blur the image a bit... can be done with a slider. Once you know that, you'll look at the camera reviews on phones very differently and see that these days, almost all flagship phones are about equal. No wonder, as most of them all use the same sensors.

Fantastic review. I really cannot appreciate your thoroughness enough. I do have a couple of remarks though. I understand that you probably wanted to keep your video as short as possible, but going all Eminem on it isn't ideal. Like sometimes, you transition from one topic to another so abruptly, and I'm left wondering whether you are still within the same sentence. This is true for the footage too. It transitions to showing a new thing, while you're still talking about the previous thing. Synchronization is important. all Android phones have the same effect but iphone is the cleanest i too want to know the reason
@troy55683 жыл бұрын
Because the camera's shutter speed probably matches the iPhone's speed of screen refresh, so the image is clear enough even when elements are moving so fast. The others are twice as fast when refreshing, so the camera will obviously capture blurry frames of the screens in motion since the shutter speed of the camera is not fast enough to freeze them in motion and capture them clearly (assuming the ss was set to 1/60s). This is just similar to how cameras work when taking photos. When the camera's shutter speed is slow, then fast-moving subjects like cars will be blurry, and vice versa if it has a very fast shutter speed.

I find it insane that people increasingly use their phones to view and HEAR content, but are more concerned about screen to body ratio than to a better audio experience with front facing speakers. Or maybe they aren't, and the tech world is just good at marketing that so it's perceived that way. For me, give me good audio any day!
@abu2693 жыл бұрын
I'd honestly rather have thin bezels instead of notches or hole punches any day. I don't like screen compromises. You wouldn't buy a TV with some of the screen missing, so way pay so much for a phone that does that!
@MrMozkoZrout3 жыл бұрын
Well while i like it too this logic has many flaws. To be objective a hole punch is so far the best way to integrate camera on the front face of the phone (excluding the motorized cameras). because you either lose that screen size on some hole punch in the corner or because of bezzels around the display. And as it happens to be, hole punch is more efficient and actually takes up less space. It is also more intrusive tho so it is all just about preference.
@abu2693 жыл бұрын
@@MrMozkoZrout Of course, like most things it comes down to personal preference. In Sonys case, the idea of the 21:9 aspect ratio + dual Dolby Atmos speakers is to provide a cinematic experience in a phone without compromise and I respect that. My brother bought the new Galaxy S21 and whilst having a play around with his phone, the only thing I could notice was that hole punch. And I honestly don't think I can get past that if it were my phone. He also found it annoying at first but eventually got used to it.

I find it hilarious that you think the classic flat rectangular shape of the Xperia 1 III's display can 'still be liked by some people, weirdly enough', as you say. Like, in what world are curved edges and rounded corners on a display more practical and beautiful than the clasic flat, 90 degree corner shape? Looking at 3:35, do people actually prefer anything but the Xperia display? I mean, I'm not a fan of the stretched 21:9 aspect ratio but, other than that, the flat rectangular display is freaking awesome, and the top-bottom bezels are what they need to be to house actual cameras, sensors and/or buttons. I hope there's still some sanity left in manufacturers to return to actual functional, practical and beautiful displays - the flat rectangle ones, not the curved/rounded corner abominations that the likes of Samsung, Apple and even Xiaomi and others are peddling these days.

@@MrMozkoZrout I have an xperia 5, just turn the phone around look into the back camera and use the dedicated camera button. It's really easy

Nick , few advices for Photo Pro . In daylight , keep ISO below 80. And shutter between 1/1000 - 1/2500s. At night, keep ISO between 100-400, shutter between 1/4 - 1/16s. Turn HDR if you want to shot single frame. Itmdoes not work for motion. For Cinema Pro, sony uses HLG. So if you do gradation , you can use full potential of it. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Great videos man, rooting for the channel to become more and more popular.

I would rather have no punch hole notch and just symmetrical top and bottom bezels. It gives somewhere to hold onto for leverage which won't activate the screen.

It was on another level, it made the other phone speakers sound cheap lol

@@silva_br1 nope, the Sony one always kind of lack bass compared to the iPhone, Galaxy or Xiaomi. The only advantages of Sony setup is the only front-facing stereo speaker on the market so it won't muffled

Seems like the S21 Ultra is the better phone, minus the 3.5 mm Jack and expandable memory.
@kingkhanrk58523 жыл бұрын
You r honest and truthful.. I must say..after watching n number of reviews of this phone..I came to the conclusion that s21 ultra is better than this phone.. Sony needs to low down the pricing too..they can't survive like this in the market

Venice CS isn't supposed to be used for a final cut of a video. It is supposed to be used as a base for color grading in post processing with software.

That was probably the only unbiased review of this product on YT lol. Anyways, you could talk a little bit about the audio gear into it for the jack outuput. Like, what are the dac specifications about it, does it compete with the mighty LG V10 that had a dedicated ESS chipset. What does the Sony have in this department?

One of the most thorough walkthroughs/reviews of this phone. Great content. Lot of work clearly gone in. I wish we got to see more of the camera in photography in a range of different modes/scenes. I would like to see how this competes with a Pixel camera for example as I think it's the best auto mode Android phone for photos, (arguably).

Great review! This Sony phone is catered more towards camera-centric people who would like to take pictures with full control. But from your review, they also improved a lot under screen, sound, and haptic departments too.
