Pretty impressed with the XZ2 it's a good phone! But it will be tough sticking out in a crowded market. Also, the 4K video clip where I show HDR. I mixed them out. The first one is WITH HDR, the second is without. Thanks for watching!

Awesome vid man! The thing is, I think that's the problem with companies like LG, HTC, Huawei, Sony etc. All these companies out there make amazing smartphones, but obviously these bunch are among the underrated because there's nothing special about them... I'd rather go for a OnePlus over anything - because of it's flagship killer nature. Google has the tricks up it's software and camera; Apple has iOS; Samsung has their ecosystem and hardware innovation, etc. So yeah, that's the problem I think. I think Sony has done a great job; like with their speakers and screen and all - but the price is too high to cut it I think... The same goes for LG and Huawei and HTC. Unfortunately, I'd say a company like OnePlus has just taken these companies' position and market space. So yeah. Big shame really that amazing phones like the XZ2 just don't really get a chance to shine!

It does look very good especially the camera. A shame Sony always has to screw things up somehow. Why not include headphone jack? And also why not use the same placement of the camera lens and fingerprint scanner of the compact variant with the flash inbetween just to differentiate them a little bit? That fingerprint scanner in the middle is actually as bad or even worse than that of the S8/S8+

It's amazing when you discover something that was taken for granted. This is a review for a cell phone and the real education I took away from it was the simple idea of using a physical button to take pictures. I was a late adopter and I have just thought having to use the touch screen to trigger the camera was a concession to progress that I had to adapt to (and an awkward one at that.) Kudos for a simple editing choice that provided me with a handy solution to my shakey snapshots.

I think it's a great phone, but for some reason it seems like 90 % of people will just pick up Samsung or iPhone for some reason. Marketing, brand recognition, or whatever it is but it's so difficult for all the other great manufacturers to sell their devices these days...
@ryugalaw6 жыл бұрын
Marketing and Carriers control the market... Sony has a long history with carriers especially in the USA, which has a big market. This history keeps preventing Sony from selling well.

Nemanja Kostic i dont think its that mate , Some people do like to say that others do not buy sony phones because the other big companies have better marketing , and while to a very small degree that may be truthful , but i can tell you my galaxy phones i have owned since 2012 have way more features . As i sit here typing on my full size illuminated keyboard and mouse that is running via a samsung dex station from my S8+ that saved me buying a new pc for example , it also has a head phone jack and sd card and wireless charging , the galaxy also came with a bunch of accessories in the box , and apart from all that , it is a very good phone . While some may put value on one single feature , some of us , and actually i would say most of us like an all rounder that gives us more value, the camera is not the absolute best on my S8+ , but it is still pretty good , add the vast array of features , some of which i still haven't even mentioned , and the galaxy models are when you add up the pros and cons still a very compelling device even if you are not fond of one or two features . Even on my old 2012 galaxy note 2 , wireless charging was available as an option , and even then you could do so much other stuff with that phone , many phone makers even by todays standards would have their heads spin trying to match it . taking nothing away from this sony , it actually looks a good phone , and i would not even mind giving it a go myself , but it is just not so compelling compared to a bunch of other flagship phones on the market today . i might mention some of sonys models the build quality was also lacking , from memory the plastic sides of the xz premium cracked when bent , while people do not go around purposely bending phones , it does sorta show sony cheaped out a bit on the build on that model , if i remember correctly one of the z5 models had a plastic lens , again probably not a deal breaker , but it does show that sony has on occasion dropped the ball/cheaped out on build quality when other brands did not . myself i`m looking forward to seeing how the xz 2 premium turns out , i think this might be a good one .
@ryugalaw6 жыл бұрын
I totally disagree with you. As Sony had most of the "World's First", and while I think the Samsung has been making great phones since 2015, many of its older phones are just cheaply made of plastic and not really waterproof. And the XZP never cracks when bent, the one that did crack was the XZ. Now, I do believe that Samsung has a give-as-much-features-as-you-can policy, but this is done by sacrificing quality, like a laggy experience and a useless un-thoughtful Bixby Button. Sony may hold on some features but that is because they tend to perfect the feature before they release it. I have no problem with Samsung's policy nor with Sony's actually, both have their audience and fans. However, the difference in each phone's fandom is truly the marketing. And that is something we're already living... For example, how many ad have you seen on a KZbin video for Samsung? Now how many have you seen for Sony? Another instance is that even local Networks here in my country, and I'm assuming in a lot of other countries, are sponsored by Samsung while Sony has no appearance on TV at all. Not to mention the "Samsung sent me a package" videos, etc. And as I mentioned before, the Carriers v Sony controversy really hurt Sony's sales, especially Verizon. To conclude, I'm liking the way Samsung has been going after the Note 5. However, I also think that Sony's progress is on the right track. And I've loved a bunch of their phones like the Z5, XZP, XZ1, and now the XZ2. P.S. Promotional Video is already out of XZ2P on SonyMobile's site, if you wanna see it.

That thinking shirt lolz Respects man you've done a great review unlike many others who find it very convenient to run down on that daringly different phone. What really really surprised me throughout the review was how correctly and rightfully you quickly and efficiently compared the right device with the XZ2 in order to highlight where it stands out and without over doing it too. For example, screen compared with P20pro, camera compared with the S9, the battery life compared with the P20pro. Well yes man it really is that beast of a battery of 4000mah saving the day for the P20pro as otherwise it is the most inefficient phone while the XZ2 is the most efficient, even more than the S9+ with its amoled display. Yes the phone hasn't been given it's due credit. Good to see you stand out and give it the due credit. Once again great work keep it up. 👍🏼

I just got my Liquid Black today, it came with the EC270 2in1 USB-C/3.5mm jack adapter, super thick TPU case (turns the round back to flat) and basic Sony BT sports headphones. My only real gripe is the overall thickness, put a case on it and it solves the wobbling/sliding issue but the thickness may bother you. But overall, it's a great upgrade from my overheating Z5. Since I have never used a phone with fingerprint scanner on the back until this phone, I don't think the scanner placement is that bad especially when you have a case on.
@Suresh76266 жыл бұрын
I get the point of fingerprint sensor location. We got used to stretch out our index finger to access the sensor for a long period of time. But what Sony trying to do is, allowing the user to access the sensor without stretching the index finger. If we think about it, it makes sense. Sony might bring swiping down the notification toggle via fingerprint scanner and that time it would be more useful. Great review btw 👍

I really love Sony phones, but I've always went back to Samsung because of the cameras but it looks like Sony is getting back on track. When I had the Xperia Z3 I was impressed how fast and smooth that phone was and battery life has always been amazing. The Full HD display RGB is sharper than many people think, let's assume that each pixel has 3 subpixels instead of 2 of Amoled (consider almost 7M subpixels vs 8.5M in galaxy s9, not that much difference) and for me Sony IPS displays are among of the best, especially because you have one less glass layer than Amoleds, looking like the screen is popping out of the phone. True that this phone has nothing unique to stand out from the competition but given my awesome experience with Sony, I would give a try.

Z3 was great, but I don't think the phone is even comparable to XZ2 (believe me, I have both). - Sony didn't pay attention to the little details with Z3, they 'forgot' to bring the fingerprint scanner, the camera is still bad (at least for low light or too bright conditions), it has a good display but it's still to cold and has bad blacks. - There was a huge overheating problem with Z3, Z3+, and Z5 (especially Z3+ and Z5 because of that crap SD810). - XZP was and still is a great phone, but its design is a bit dated. I love its design but Sony needs to try hard to get their old customers back.

Love you man..... Now I seriously have to look at this one.... I have been really looking for a moto x pure replacement and the only reason why I am still using it is for its front firing speakers.... I still can't believe that flagship devices are ditching front speakers at such high price..... I am looking for an all round device rather than a standout feature....... Do you think the speaker output is similar to moto x pure? Thanks a ton for unbiased quality reviews..... And one thing i might like to differ, as I don't have large hands when I hold any phone generally I can't reach the fingerprint sensor on one plus or pixel since I tend to hold the phone right at the bottom so I can reach to the home buttons easily... I was hoping some company would keep the fingerprint sensor somewhere similar to xz2 which I think would be the best spot for someone like me..... If you get a chance plz do reply....

Personally, I find the fingerprint reader position to be not bad. I find those on the Pixel or others too high for my taste, but this is due to the way I'm holding the phone, I always have the little finger blocking it at the bottom and that way I don't like to stretch my finger to reach for the fingerprint reader, it's easier to bend my finger to touch it. This phone is for sure one of the best of the first part of this year!

Well, to say that other phones have "better screen and audio" is a bit... i dont know.. if i say something people will call me hater/fanboy at the sametime lol. These days, i think, people shouldn really say that something is the best because almost everything is subjective (in flagship phones). Some people like oled, some people dont, some people like the notch, some dont, some people like pictures oversaturated with smoothing efects, some people like natural color with higher dynamic range and more detail, the design is also subjective an so on.. What this phone has that others dont (at least in europe) is blazing fast performance resulted by the SD845 and sony optimization that also results in great battery life, and that is the most objective thing one can say about sony phones.. Its a true solid flagship with no gimmicks.. (3 cameras, dual aperture, super hi face scanner peoples... =P)

Thanks for the review Matthew. Finally someone points out that Xperia phones are actually good Android devices, Sony has been the underdog for a long time and they still are, and even though the XZ2 has its flaws it is still a solid and good option. Personally, some decisions made me choose the XZ1 and I'm quite happy with it; I'd prefer if Sony hadn't killed the headphone jack just yet nor placed the fingerprint so low. But with the new XZ2 they really did a good job with improvements on the camera and the battery life. So, let's hope Sony keep improving and who knows, maybe regain a better position in the smartphone industry. Oh by the way, I'm crossing my fingers to see your review for the upcoming XZ2 Premium. 🤞 Thanks again Sir, great review of the X2 I love your channel and your videos, keep up the good work!

The only thing I would like for Sony to bring back is the signature round power button.

please someone that owns the phone answer, does it roll to the sides when you try to use it while it leaned on its back on a table due to the rounded back? does it feel so thick and heavy when holding in your hands? thank you.

There are a lot of phones that have a higher screen-to-body ratio than the Mi Mix 2 though, as it sits at only 80.8%. But I get where you're coming from. I personally prefer light bezels but stereo front facing speakers like on this phone and the Google Pixel 2 XL. But the Mi Mix 2 is a great phone as well!

One thing I noticed is that Sony Xperia, the camera focuses before every shot. Idk about others but I currently have a Google pixel and if I want to take a picture quickly, it will not focus before the shot and make useless photos which upsets me. Sure it's fast but I'd rather have a clear picture. I miss my Sony.

As many Xperia phones, the best part is hidden in the options. Xperia have usually the best audio settings, best picture settings, also a very nice colorblind support, "find my xperia" thing like iphone, etc.

Older design was more attractive. The z3 was and still is a great phone. The xz1/xz2 are fantastic though.

I feel like this is a throwaway phone cause everyone knows the XZ2 premium dropping in a couple months. Why would you spend premium $800 on this when you know TRUE 4k HDR glory is right around the corner. Smarter option in my opinion if you must have Sony phone is get the XZ Premium (8.0, sd835, 4k) which keep going on sale for $550 & under, then catch a deal on the XZ2 Premium

It is the wireless generation tho (I have a sony bluetooth headphone to pair with it and it works amazing. Never going back to wired ear/headphones)

After a week of having one I like the phone. Think a full screen phone would be annoying to hold with out touching the screen. Unless it's touch is deactivated around the edges

Sony has made some incredible phones this year (esp the XZ2 compact) but it's really a pity that they seem to have almost given up on the Indian market. They didn't launch the XA2 series, XZ2 compact or XZ3 and they dumped the XZ2 at an exorbitant price of 73k. Obviously Sony is not interested in selling phones in India anymore.

I don't like this new design... but I loved the old design, it was one of my points to always buy a Sony Xperia.
