A recommendation - show the phone without the skins first, then say that you slapped on a gorgeous dbrand skin on top of it. That way people dont think the phone looks like that out of the factory and you make a product placement. Win/win.

I am a Sony fan and for a reason. Sony builds what you really wants (ofcourse it's personal choice), however everything I need they put amazing focus in it. I am using the Z3 and guys... I really don't care about specs, Sony sells experience not a product. I take a shot at a pitch dark outside and I am standing there, trying to figure out what just happened, because I see stuff that I cannot even notice they are there. Furthermore... BATTERY, speak whatever you want, when sony says up to 2 days battery life in the commercial, they mean it. Another huge feature I like on my Sony is the headphones, totally different experience with the sound cancellation and i'll never go back to something different. Good review of the product. It pointed the good and bad things the phone can offer. Yes, I can make a comment on their price, however as I said, Sony sells experience, not a product. Thumbs up if you agree

+slavevBG I'm liking my Z5 Compact, but this "experience" is disjointed. It popped up suggesting I install Privelige Plus, with 3 free credits. Thought the videos would appear in the main media player, but nope - only available to play via the privelige application. And the actual PP application is diabolical. Everything else about the phone is pretty good - battery life, speed, camera functionality (although the camera is held back by having no decent manual controls).

I just bought this in 2018 :) I use it at the gym as a music player. I can stream music or use the music library on my 128gb sd-card. It is small and relatively light. And for 150 bucks (brand new) I'm not too scared to drop or scratch it. Using my Pixel 2 XL at the gym was a bit cumbersome. I highly recommend that phone even though it won't be my daily driver in 2018.

I just love the decision making here. Whenever a company releases a cheap feeling plastic fantastic phone with changeable covers everyone is like: Nope! f.u. plastics ! we want shiny glass and metal and shit! We want premium feeling devices! But once a company delivers that they put cheap, ugly, extremly fake looking (if u use the front one) sticky bullshit to cover the premiumness that you paid for. It doesnt make any fking sense.

This is why I enjoyed the Xperia series, but especially love the -Compact series. I own a Xperia Z3-Compact and I don't regret it. Its water-proof rating means if I'm walking around in town trying to find a place with Maps, and it starts pouring rain on me I can still walk around using my phone without it sizzling due to the rain; But even with its water-proof rating I'm not going to go swimming with it. Technology, water proofed or not, I'm not taking any risks. Its small size may be an issue for some but that's why I love it, since my hands are small I wasn't in any means looking to compete in the Olympic Championships for Finger Gymnastics - I just wanted a phone where I could pull down the notification drawer with my thumb. "Bigger is better", on phones? Sure maybe if I want to carry a tablet to my head when I get a phone call and look like an idiot. I agree though, its size is definitely not optimal for playing games on... but I mean, we're talking about games here. On phones. A responsive FPS with twitch shooting and a wide FOV isn't exactly something I'll be playing on a phone, absolutely not. The whole PPI and its size, Linus pretty much hit spot on with. I may want to watch a movie when taking a 2 hour train ride somewhere, and it may not be the best option but at least I can watch it. The biggest thing I like about the Xperia series is that when it comes to their compact, they cut back but they don't rip you the fuck off which pisses me off when I was looking for a compact phone before I fell in love with the Xperia line. You want a compact phone? Okay, that HTC one M9 flagship phone? Here's the mini version. It's 100$ less, and everything about it is halved. Everything. Oh gee thanks, great. I saw two phones that did this. Xperia compact? For 100$ less you get 1GB less of RAM, and less battery... A good trade off for compact since you'd expect it if you were actively looking for compact. Also with the On-Screen buttons thing too, yes they get in the way with such a small display as it is; Do yourself a favor and get LMT or Pie Controls. (Whichever you fancy more)

I own an iPhone XS Max and I’m going to sell it for this phone. Pound for pound at this exact date this phone is the best phone out for it’s feature and usability ratio. It literally has zero compromises and it completely functional with zero fluffs. The xs max in comparison is expensive bulky and impractical from a daily stand point because of its price point plus as a phone it can’t even fit in my pocket. If it had no bezels it would have been perfect but sony for some crazy reason has been underrated in this game the entire time

I'm a Z3 compact user and I love it! The battery life is good, the 720p screen still makes pixel practically impossible to notice, it's fast and the os isn't loaded with a ton of bloatware. One complaint: this phone is VERY fragile, I've hit it while it was in my pockets on a door knob and the entire back glass shattered. I bought a black carbon fiber dbrand skin to hide the shattered back glass but I don't think it's waterproof anymore. Also, if you want to root this phone MAKE SURE TO SAVE YOUR DRM KEYS!!! These keys are used to unlock certain functions of the camera and if you lose them, you'll never get them back.
@MRGilD09 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with the screen. I don't get why people want QHD or even 4k in a phone. Just uses up more battery for tbh. I guess if you can see the tiny differences and it annoys you to hell, then more power to you in getting a higher resolution.

+LinusTechTips you should still try Z3 compact, it's still widely considered as best of compact series. Back camera lens being sharper, longer battery life, less overheating, docking port for damn cheap docking station. Z5C shines with temporary performance, higher built-in storage and finger scanner, but many agree that these are not as important as Z3C pros. I've had Z3C for half a year, then Z5C for a week and now back with Z3C...

Something I've always loved about Linus's reviews is that he doesn't simply spout the specs, say, "this is beautiful, good screen, good camera, battery is fine, 10/10!" like most other big phone reviewers do (lookin at you Androidauthority, PocketNow, and Technobuffalo). He's very clear about what he looks for in his phones (battery and usability and front facing speakers), and then reviews the phone based on how well he liked using it as he normally would use his phone. This means he's using the phone normally, so he'll actually notice the things he likes and what bothers him.Plus, his reviews are done after using the phone for a month, where the aforementioned sites use their phones for 5 days before reviewing them. Also, he's utterly unimpressed, and very consistently so, by specs, especially res, unless they translate into better user experience, something no other reviewers do. Many reviewers taste the quality of the screen primarily by ppi, then by the actual quality of the panel, caring more about resolution than anything else. Linus, though, sticks to his guns that, in his opinion, lower reses, above a certain threshold, will make no difference in daily use, and adds to his statement that more pixels =/= better screen by switching from a phone with a 2K display to one with a sub FHD res. That's standing behind your statements! Linus is hands down the best phone reviewer I've seen. And it's not even remotely his primary job!

Rear speakers have their benefits. Unless you slap a case over them. If you set the phone on a surface they are designed to reflect sound out and around the device so it can be extremely loud. The way I hold mine is more of a cup so the sound reflects off my hand making it very loud.If I turn the phone over and let the speaker blare sound at my face it takes a huge reduction in amplitude as a result. That is probably why the front facing speakers are not as loud without the reflection and other things adding some boost to them.Front facing speakers could fix some of the stereo separation issues if they angled themselves 45 degrees away from the phone (landscape mode so they would aim 45 degrees to the right and left hitting your hears more from the side then dead on.

This might be my next phone for sure. I still have Galaxy 3 and it's starting to be a bit slow side and two main features I'm looking for are easier one hand operation and battery life. I don't care about camera features, because I have actual cameras and plenty of them. Lastly it's always nice to support Sony brand, because I don't want them to go away, even though I'm not blind fanboy. So if I can naturally and for right reasons support them I'm happy.

I'm with you on the screen size+resolution. Not only have they gone nuts with the larger screens, several models have gone crazy with the QHD and higher res., which is totally unnecessary for a small screen and eats the hell out of your battery. I just got my first 5.5" screen this month with the new asus zenfone 2 laser, and i must say, 5.5(6" total length) is the absolute biggest ill ever go for a phone. I almost regret getting it because of the size/weight, but so far it seems like a great phone for 200$. Id rather save room for a bulkier/thick case for extra protection!

Glad to hear that the battery life has been improved, my Z2's battery life is rather poor. It really is quite annoying.

I've had a z1, z3, z3 compact and finally z5 compact. This phone is perfect. It feels premium and actually outshines the current line of 2017 compact sonys. The xz and xz1 compacts, neither of which are waterproof or have the fingerprint sensor any more. I feel that Sony have lost their way on the compact offerings. I thought the whole point was you were able to get essentially the flagship without the ridiculous sized screen (just an opinion). The Z5 compacts only downside for me is the new frame which coating easily marks. One drop with leave a nasty looking gouge, so a cover is a must. The z3 compact frame was more forgiving. The camera is fine, not amazing but fine. I don't plan to replace this any time soon, unless Sony gets their act together that is.

If Sony is good at something, is doing their own devices "compact" versions not lack support / specs like other brands.

Woah! 0:49 What front pocket are you referring to ?

I guess you'd want better vibration motors if you carry your phone in your front pocket.

It's a shame that almost no one notices this beauty. Though I only have a regular Z3, this phone (and my phone) is amazing. It's a bang for your back premium device, it has 90% of it's big brother Z5's specs. I might get the Compact versions from now on. Most tech review sites praised the Z3 Compact. I'm pretty sure this one is getting even more than that.

a few people talking about the skin choice for the phone. i like it. i wouldnt get orange, though orange is one of my favorite colors. i'd get black or a red instead, but the orange still looks good

Suggestion: use Minuum Keyboard. It really does take up a lot less space than standard keyboards - especially when you get familiar with using it(then you can reduce the height of it).

To be fair the the photos being taken where shown to be in Auto mode not in manual settings which allows you to fix a lot of those issues

At first I wondered how/why you guys had your phones set to Cloverdale (4:25), because I was thinking about the Cloverdale I grew up in, in California. Then google told me about the other Cloverdale. Tripped me out for so long.

Could you guys please clarify in future videos what sort of AC it supports? AC is anything from 750 to 1300 depending on how many spatial streams it supports, some support more than others and it would be interesting to see how much faster the higher end models are to the lower end ones that might skimp on antennas to save battery/space.

Got a Z3C a few months ago. Not a heavy cell phone user, so my battery lasts anywhere from 2-5 days depending on how much I abuse the wifi at home. :P

My only grip i've had with every xperia compact is the lessening of the ram from its full size version. My wife owns a z1 still I had a z3 and i've owned a z3 compact. Once this is cheaper i'll probably jump on it too.
