I still say the manufacturers are making a mistake not marketing 8K at 55". Perceived image quality improves up to about 300 Pixels Per-Degree, the limit of "Hyperacuity" in average human vision, that would be a 55-inch 8K screen viewed from 9-feet away. Traditionally, HDTV and "Apple Retina" marketing just point out limits on normal "visual acuity" at 60 Pixels Per-Degree, but they only test for maximum line frequency, the point where a high frequency line pattern is higher density than the photocell density in your eye and the image contrast just turns to noise. The problem with using that as a statement of the absolute limits of human vision is that each photocell has edge detection individually, but when you over saturate photocell density with line density then you defeat that mechanism and any contrast turns to a flat grey from multiple lines affecting each cell. Human vision is also a constructive process that happens over time (search for "Saccade"), so again by testing with line patterns beyond the photocell density you're prohibiting your eyes gathering any visual data in the first place. Your eyes are made to detect low-frequency high-contrast outlines, such as the outline of a pair of eyes or some berries in foliage, this is detecting a distinct shape among noise, not just deciphering constant image noise. The testing people have used over the last 20 years to sell HDTV or "Retina" displays as something that matches human vision is fundamentally flawed. The practical reality of the situation is that in terms of "Cost to Benefit", 60 Pixels Per-Degree represents just the very beginning of "Diminishing Returns". You can say that at 60 Pixels Per-Degree you can see 100% of the detail present on your screen, but it is very far from being the sharpest image. As you increase sharpness by moving pixel density above 60 Pixels Per-Degree some of the detail present is gradually lost from perception, but that's a natural part of what makes image texture look "real". In real life there is always more detail than you can see and the resulting pattern shifting as you subtly move your eyes and head is part of the feel of texture and gives it the final layer of "crispness". It's still not perfect though since in real life you're constantly changing the angle between your head and any light sources (unless you're using a head mounted flashlight at night), so there will always be that slight disconnect until we're doing all this in real time with VR headsets, but at least it's safe to say using moderately sized 8K displays for increased pixel density will give a more realistic image.

You're one of the few people that "gets" this. All I see of people talking about 8K is, "There is no native 8K content out now.", and "Make 8K bigger, so that we can see the difference!".

All comments are always viewable to the video creator, and they are often the ones who shadow ban comments, but I konw it happens automatically as well. KZbin staff were bragging about how they reduced the number of comments across the site by a large percentage when they implemented the system.

@HDTVTest Hi Vincent if price was no factor would you pick the ZG9 over the C9 or CX oled? Or maybe even the 8K oled's for Mixed bright and dark room viewing? I love OLED contrast but i also love the HDR pop. I already notice the difference between my current X940E and a C7 OLED brightness wise. I really wonder what that ZG9 can do for the highlights. Im torn between going for a 77 OLED or spending quite a bit more for the bigger and brighter ZG9.

My 75" Z9D isn't going anywhere, and (HDR) it kills the LG C7 I have in my master. Plus my set was originally $12K, a year later $8K and now goes for $4K. In two years, when the 85" Z9G has gone from $16K to $8K or less, and there's maybe some 8K content, then the Z9G will be "attractive"...........

@Raios Rogue 130 nit oled?? How so??
@marcfavell
@marcfavell 5 жыл бұрын
@Raios Rogue I under stand....but in real world situations sustained brightness it's not a very good perimeter to use because it does not reflect real-world usage....and your trying to down play how good of a TV it is just with brightness. And the 4k hdr Alliance standard is not 1000nit sustained but Peak for spectral highlights, the difference between 4000 nits and 1000 is not 4 times brightness only on paper it's 4 times brighter but how our eyes work is not linear but logarithmic and that's why oled TVs are able to look better with hdr then led TVs is because oled have better black levels (more important then brightness) so sure not as bright as led TVs but still just as much, actually more dynamic range then led TVs. And it will be a very long time till a better more accurate display comes out like micr led TVs could be 5 years to 10 year for a large screen (still very hard, more so then oled ever was to make, with lighter % wasted panels)
@marcfavell
@marcfavell 5 жыл бұрын
@Raios Rogue read this, it will give you a idea how long micro led TV and how hard, and how expensive they are and will be for the next while to manufacturer , I personally can't wait bit let's be realistic.....for the price oled is the best TV technology we can buy now and for the next 5 year minimum, it's not going anywhere. Brightness is not everything what makes a hdr TV great, it's a lot of things combined like black levels being #1
@marcfavell
@marcfavell 5 жыл бұрын
@Raios Rogue your silly and should get your eyes checked if you think qled is better then any oled TV.....Sony XBRX900F is better then all similar priced samsung QLED .....the problem is Samsung's TV kill the dark scenes, like I said brightness is not the most important, and the sony oled TVs are better then both led TVs ....you clearly have not seen all in person and are the type of person who goes off the paper specifications without any thought and believes it all to 🤷‍♂️🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
@marcfavell
@marcfavell 5 жыл бұрын
@Raios Rogue your Sony is the edge lit version.....not FALD so your need to compare oranges to oranges. The Vizeo quantum is better then the Samsung as well especially the new quantum x, I would say for the money it's the best TV period for under $1500 but that a totally different discussion. I don't get how you can even say qled are better when pretty much nobody in the tech world agrees that that statement and oled has beat every Samsung since introduced qled line. I am very curious to see the qled/oled hybrid when it's out though, should be the best of both worlds, but just like micro led the question is when. 🤷‍♂️

@budthecyborg4575
@budthecyborg4575 5 жыл бұрын
@OguzKhan Desperado 5:07 There is no white in the image but I'm assuming that's the blank space between pixel rows, which is fine. LG RGBW actually replaces colors within the RGB matrix with W, it's a 30% reduction in color resolution. Obviously Sony isn't that stupid and still has full RGB per-pixel, plus W, but once one manufacturer has tried I cannot trust anyone to automatically have full RGB per pixel anymore, it must be verified with pictures.

Sounds like a brilliant TV - 4000 nits is unbelievable! But I just cannot wrap my head around Sony missing the mark with gaming features and Input Lag/VRR/ALLM considering how successful the PS4/PS4 Pro is - you would think they would invest in this area because Samsung and LG will poach millions of gamers not only for this TV but any of their 4KTV sets as well. Movie lovers don't seem to have a thing to worry about - looks like finally the true successor to the ZD9 and now to wait until prices drop so I can afford one!

Another great review Vincent. Can’t wait for a 65” version however, Earc on a separate hdmi to 8k, that’s a mistake by Sony! All TVs need sound of some sort but who buys a high end TV that hasn’t already got a few £k worth of sound system? I’d much rather have a thin bezel to look and make do with poor sound for every day usage please. 🙂

The q900r sounds very interesting, but this is what an LED TV should be. Don't try to out black OLED because you can't. Just get the best black levels you can and add some bias lighting. Then blow away any OLED on the planet with 4000 nits. If I had that kind of money to burn, this is what I would buy. How do I know I would like it? Because I'm a very happy xe93 owner.

You're not missing much. What you would gain with a current mid-tier 4k TV isn't the resolution, it's the overall image quality with high dynamic brightness range (the nits he talks about) between deep black and brightest white, plus the dramatically increased color gamut matching the range of color the human eye can see. Add to that the much improved and more sophisticated image processing to deal with motion flow, smoothness and clarity. That's the improvement people find, and they claim it's 4k when it's really not. I just bought a 4k TV to replace a "2k" (1080p) that was made in 2010. The difference in image processing and its rendition is dramatic. It's not the 4k resolution. Going to 8k is, IMHO a stupid waste. It's more than humans can resolve at a proper viewing distance (which is based on size of screen - which then determines size of pixel). In realilty, you cannot "see" much better than 2k when you're a proper distance from the panel for the human eye primary horizontal field of view, about 30 degrees. That's the real driver. Move closer than that and the human eye primary field of view crops the edges - which then forces the eye to continuously move more than it already does in the desperate and futile attempt to take it all in which then causes eye strain and fatigue.

Thanks for dedicating your review to the 85. I hope Sony granted you some extra private time to put Gal Gaddot on the 98. We all know and understand that was the real reason to go there you little Nit-Nut. 😜 Let's hope prices go down, that 85 is something very tempting for filmmakers who already shoot 8k.

Even oleds dont if you are basically remotely capable of looking after a 2 grand TV and don't intentionally try to get burn in. As it stands its actually pretty hard to do. Then again, I can't justify upwards of a grand for an nything that isnt OLED. Old tech is old no matter how you gussy it up. If you want unnecesary brightness and blacks with no trade off then pay out the nose for micro led when that is available.

@@jeffreycarrington9098 Interesting, I mean I have to disagree that they were, but then again maybe it doesn't suit your using habits. Who knows, I'm not expert on your life. What I do know is OLED for general mixed varied use, like its native contrast, is infinitely better than the constant battle with DSI, vignetting, color tint, hit or miss dimming/ settings tweaks for the right ideal level of blackness/ brightness trade off, etc.

@John Hooper Sure could, but won't. Going from 15 ms to 21 ms from one of my other TVs is noticable in how responsive the game feels and that is only a 5 ms difference, increasing it to 30 ms, which I've done some gaming on as well just doesn't feel good to me. I don't like this half assed effort to not lower the input lag further or at least keep it at max 20 ms. 30 ms is just out of the question, even 23-24 ms would be a turn off for me. Lastly 5 ms isn't something to scoff at, most VR research show any thing higher than 8 ms lag will introduce nausea when moving the head around for a lot of people and should idealy be around 5 ms for great comfort, so we are certainly capable of feelng and being affected by minute lag. I mean at what point is it to much lag, if 30 ms is okay, is 100 or a 1000 ms as well, where do you draw the line?

In then end how good the picture quality is ALWYS comes down to how good the media mastering is. :) No matter what video display tech we're talking about. HD resolution TV's, 4k TV's or a true 8k TV. If the movie was mastered poorly or not at "demo worthy quality" for 8k...it won't matter if one has an 8k TV's or not. Funny we're talking about 8k TV's when there is no truly 8k media...unless you live in Japan..where I think I heard they DO have 8k broadcasts (not sure how frequently, if it's just the odd program...etc.).... What gets me is how expensive some 8k flatscreens are...the 98" sells for $98,000 USD!! :P That is ridiculous. You can get a reference quality native 4k projector for half the cost.
