Frankly, with the exception of really low light I thought the ZV E10ii was as good as the Zv E1. What surprised me was the stabilization, not a Sony strength but this looked fine in both (though seeing you out of breadth running was concerning). In Handsome alley I preferred the APSC, but that was largely due to lens used I suspect. In all of your reviews you continue to show how the higher end cameras are not really much better than the basic ones; for average use. I recall little Dougie easily holding his own against FF in a studio and basic vlogging. Same results here…both are great for most uses.

great comparison, Mark, thanks for sharing! Btw, I recommend using APS-C lenses with Active Stabilization on the ZVE1. The crop is similar to what you'd get with APS-C mode, but since you're still using the full-frame sensor for 4K recording, you can shoot in 4K resolution even with an APS-C lens. I get good results with this technique using my Sigma 16mm and Sigma 18-50mm --a nice light set-up that handles low-light like a champ.

​@@jeromedelacruz8754 No need, I zoom in before shooting. 1.3x is suitable for most cases (vignetting cannot be seen in most cases), which means I get 23.4mm to 75mm FF equivalent out of this lens. (The most common criticism of this lens is that it starts at 27mm FF equivalent)

Glad you agree with me on not using APS-C lenses on the ZV-E1. I don't even think the 16mm is wide enough if you add the Dynamic Active Crop. Maybe the Venus Laowa 10mm F/2.8 but it's still 420 G.

I am tempted to get the E10 II because of the sensor but, more for the battery over the OG E10. Having the same battery for it and the a6700 would be better. Sometimes I want a camera I can leave in the car all the time for quick shots, maybe with some of those great cheap(inexpensive) APSC lenses.

I bought an A7Cii for photography but ended up also getting a ZV-E1 after watching your reviews on it. Great little camera for my needs and it's surprisingly good at photos as well. as a public grade school i am still stuck with my sony zv e10 v1 and viltrox 23mm f/1.4 because i'm no longer able to buy anything expensive, but i still watch your videos because i love how you talk. you talk knowledgeably about your topic while effortlessly (and naturally) being funny at the same time. i'm watching to simply get entertained and to be able to somehow learn how to imitate your style. so, if you guys can help me out by donating even a used zv1 i could use for point-and-shoot vlogging while using zv-e10 as b-roll and talking-head camera, please feel free to do so😊 (just wondering if this is possible. it doesn't hurt to try anyway 😁)

The extra goes to 4k120p, 1080p 240p, dynamic active stab, native Iso12800, 8.9ms rolling shutter. Once you owned the ZVE1 and compared any of those features ever once to any other gears yourself, I'd say it's very hard to get back.

I was extremely skeptical about ZVE1. Now it's my everyday everywhere camera. I'm using Sony's notorious 50mm f1.8 with this camera for 99% of my KZbin videos and it's working absolutely fine.

I have used E10ii for over a month. Superb offerings, smaller body, better battery life. People often exagerated on the overheat part whereas I never get any overheat signs even shooting at direct sunlight. I have shot it at 4K 60fps but its not continous shot. Who does that btw. I'd say I dont agree with the higher price and a bulkier body than Mark I but, set aside these 2 then it is already the best offerings from Sony.

Nice vid! There's a FF vs APS-C comparison I've not seen before that I'd love to see. The a6700 with the sony 35 mm f1.8 oss compared to the a7CII and the sony 50 mm f2.5. I know the cameras have been compared a lot but I think this is interesting because these setups are almost identical in size, weight and (equivalent) focal length! So many people are talking about the A7CII + compact prime so would be cool to see how far behind the a6700 was with f1.8 vs f2.5 and everything else about the same....but the price!

I have a A7iii do you prefer ZV-E1 over A7iii? I am confused about these, A7iii is almost 3/4 years old, Video doesn't looks that crispy, using a 16mm sigma lens (maybe lens problem) don't know, main focus Video for quick blogging, not much interested on manual setting for video, mostly shoot outside, I mount the camera inside my car (inside will be dark) and outside is daylight, so sometimes see so much noise inside,

I have the 13mm 1.4 viltrox with the zve10 II. really nice. the only downside is if you are using auto aperture at all the aperture steps, caused by the lens, are slightly noticeable. use aperture prio or manual and no problem obviously.

I've never had a Sony camera aside my old DSLT that randomly just died on me. I have had Samsung and Lumix mirrorless cameras for the past 6-7 years after my Sony A55 died on me. I actually want the ZVE-10 II a lot for shooting short films. My friend has an FX30 and he's used me in a bunch of his shoots for short projects but I want to make things of my own with that Sony autofocus. Ain't getting that on my S5, that's for sure.

Hey mark, just fyi the gyroflow plugin is now on premier pro and it applies a automatic profile when added to footage which works well. I find it works better than catalyst browse. I recommend you do a video on it, i would but i dont have the following or time for it and im sure we will all enjoy seeing your pretty face instead of mine haha

overall the a6700 is the better buy if it's in the budget. But if you don't need 4k120 and you are using video only, then the ZV-E10ii is the way to go.

Hi, Mark! Nice video! I'm thinking of buying the ZV-E1 for video, but I also use the a7rV for photos. I want to use the Sigma 10-18mm for video on the ZV-E1 and for photos on the a7rV, to avoid use (and sell) my 12-24 and 16-35. Do you think I could use the Sigma 10-18 to take photos at 12mm (FF equivalent)? Or I'd have to crop more than that? Hope you can answer... I'd really like to be able to use one lens instead of 3 when I'm on vacation, but I need those 12mm for photos of the Sky Tree and the Tokyo tower when I'm in Japan!

You can use the sigma 10-18 at 12mm but you will likely have to crop out the vignette in post which will bring your 12 megapixels down even further. I can’t be sure, without the lens here, but you’ll probably have to go to about 14mm to get rid of the vignette. For online content or small photos that should still be fine.

Hey Mark, on APSC do you really shoot wide open for things like talking head videos or do you stop it down? I know some people shoot at F4 and turn off autofocus so that they don’t risk losing focus. If you do shoot stopped down why not just use something like an 18-50 at 2.8 if the 1.4 aperture doesn’t really matter?

Hey Mark one question about the Dual Based ISO on the Zv E1. (on 6400 and 12800) Is that always on or is that a "special" setting in the Menu? And second question, does it make a difference whether I film in normal, hlg3 or slog mode. Thanks so much

That's just how the ISO works - so you don't have to turn anything on. The 12,800 is for S-Log only.

The ZV-E10II is worth the upgrade, but you do need lenses. If there's no budget for lenses for the ZV-E10II then get the ZV-E10 and the Sigma 16mm 1.4

They're both great. But The ZV-E1 is a better video camera overall - 4k120, great stabilization, amazing lowlight and a big full frame sensor. Having 12 mp will only matter if you do a lot of cropping in post with your photos or you want to print very large photo prints. I use both constantly.

Yes for sure. Keep it on a tripod with internal temp set to high and the screen open for long recordings. Don’t use the camera handheld unless you have a gimbal

The A7CII is excellent - but it might be out of that budget. So look at the A7C or the A6700. The Osmo pocket 3 is good for handheld travel video
