You are a magician. I am in the process of growing the other desert rose plants from seedlings from a dessert rose that I already had. They are growing beautifully. I'll try to cut the roots the way that you did... a little nervous to repot.

Always a great video. Appreciate your insight and sharing how you achieve success in your desert roses. Was wondering what time of year do you recommend trimming a desert rose for the first time after growing from seed. Live in Southern California My plants are were started in April 24 and repotted in mid July as they got pretty tall really fast. They are now about six months old.

Sony, your channel has been such an inspiration to me. I purchased 4 Impala Lilies (what we called them in Africa where they grow naturally) back in October and immediately repotted them just as you have shown. I also took the cuttings and repotted those, but some of the cuttings died. I think I didn't give them enough water. I hope to do the next repotting at the end of January. It would be very helpful if you helped with some general care instructions. How often should we water? How often should we fertilize when we are not repotting? What fertilizer do you recommend and how much? Also, what sand do you recommend using with the potting soil? I have just been digging sand out of my back yard when repotting since I live in Tampa where the ground is very sandy. Is this ok? It is so nice seeing these beautiful trees again that I remember so vividly from childhood growing up in Africa. Thanks again.

Sony, what a great channel you have here! I'm both a "liker" and subsciber. I am following your advice on the Adenium because I have 4 coming to my home in Lake Charles, La from a vendor I found on Etsy. The price was reasonable for the pictured size, so I made the purchase! I want to be sure and do all the right things and from the looks of your specimens, you've been obviously doing what's right. I started to buy a book on the subject, but as it looks, there's so much info on KZbin, I have no need! Happy growing. 🙂

Thank you for sharing this! I ordered a dozen desert rose plants from a nursery in South Texas at the beginning of the summer. They looked like they were about 2 months old. I really messed up when I put them in pots because they have barely grown any. I think the soil I used was way too sandy, and I kept them too dry. I still have 8 of them left, and I put them into soil similar to what you used this morning. It's still pretty warm where I live in east Texas so hopefully they will grow some.

I repot mine (6 months old) yesterday. I cut off some smaller roots, luckily the tap root on mine was growing from the side so i didn't cut it off, just trimmed it shorter. i didn't have cinnamon or turmeric but i used aloe vera gel over the cuts, then i put a round base under the caudex to train the remaining roots before covering it up in soil. I intend to wait a couple days before watering. I hope i am on the right track? Is it ok to give it a weed tea or proper fertilizer during its first watering too? I live in a tropical region so am not sure it will have a dormant season, so how long before next potting?

May I ask why you switched the potting medium? At first you started the seedlings in a raised bed mix. Then you made your own mix for the plants at this stage and in the later videos you went back to the raised bed mix when the plants are larger. So I was just wondering why the switch?

I was wondering as well but he explains at 11:52 that he cuts the tap root so that the caudex/trunk grows wider rather than vertical. I imagine this creates helps to grow it in a bonsai style.
