I see how a lot of people here are complaining about the fact that we don't have pop acts like Euphoria, Strings or Bombay Vikings coming up anymore. I am also a 90's kid and I see that there is a sense of nostalgia that these songs bring with them as we remember the times when we used to be excited about buying their CDs or waiting to listen to them on MTV or Channel V. There are lot of good projects or acts today as well. Raghu Dixit, Local Train, When Chai Met Toast are making a niche for themselves but the fact that these are accessible at the simple click of a youtube link means that they will never be etched in the memories of the current growing generation. Or probably these memories will be overridden by the crap that Honey Singh and the Badshas are throwing at us .

What an Idea by Strings to portray Women Empowerment by their Music video, making an effort to bring change in the society. Still can't get enough of this gem. The use of the word "Chunariya" throughout the song represents Woman, what a thought, no doubt it's also written by a woman (Zehra Nigah) Ji. One of the rarest and finest.

Pakistan's pop scene has always been amazing and at least comparable ,if not better, to India's in the 90s. However bollywood fuckin effed the entire pop industry in India. Pakistan did a better job and they were still producing some good artists until recently. I love the kind of music that used to come out of India and pak in the 90s. From lucky ali to strings,euphoria,silk route,junoon,KK,mombay vikings,shweta shetty and all. Oh,how i miss those days.

+Brijesh Shukla , Not sure whether you're forgetting Vital Signs or don't know about them, but Vital Signs were the Pioneers of Pop in this part of the world. They inspired a whole generation here in Pakistan. And of course who can forget Nazia and Zoheb, the ultimate duo.
@brijeshshukla4696
@brijeshshukla4696 9 жыл бұрын
Sarmad Jamal I have listened to a couple of songs, but did not explore much of their discography. I know 'Dil Dil pakistan' and how huge it is till date. But i identified much more with strings for some reason. Ali haider was another artist who was popular those days. Not to take away from Vital signs, i am sure they were phenomenal.
@BreakTheIce222
@BreakTheIce222 9 жыл бұрын
+Sarmad Jamal Vital Signs were in no way the pioneers of pop in the IndoPak region. Vital Signs wouldn't have gotten their break if it wasn't for Nazia and Zohaib. Nazia and Zohaib introduced pop and disco pop to the region in the early 80s - and Nazia was the bigger star in the duo. Vital Signs got their big break from the show called Music '89 - which Nazia hosted. In fact, many of Pakistan's biggest pop names of the 90s got their break from this show as well - Ali Haider, Sajjad Ali, Strings, and Jupiters.
@sarmadjamal17
@sarmadjamal17 9 жыл бұрын
Break the ice Vital Signs were responsible for revitalizing music in general after the end of Zia's regime. Sure they got their break from Shoaib Mansoor, but the impact they had going into the 90's was insane. Added to the fact that they had a genius like Shoaib Mansoor behind them, they well and truly brought pop to the mainstream. Dil Dil Pakistan became more than just a song. I agree with you that Nazia and Zoheb introduced us to pop but Vital Signs should be given credit for revitalizing it and making it popular than it ever was before.
@BreakTheIce222
@BreakTheIce222 9 жыл бұрын
+Sarmad Jamal Vital Signs in their heyday never matched Nazia or Zohaib's success. The duo's first album topped the charts in 14 countries. By the end of 80's, they had sold over 80 million album units. This is a figure that's impressive even today - most successful artists (even in the US) don't sell as much. Vital Signs were huge in the early 90's, but they were riding the wave that Music '89 had created. The early 90s saw the greatest emergence of new pop acts in Pakistan. In any event, my comment simply meant to point out that they in no way introduced pop to the region. It was there all along. You cannot discredit Nazia and Zohaib for bringing it to the region.

It’s a shame what’s become of Pakistan today, the radicals have destroyed what could have been an amazing country. How I’d love to visit Karachi and Lahore, eat the amazing food, drive on the Karakoram Highway, travel to Sindh and Balochistan. To be seen if I’ll ever be able to do in the remaining 30 years of life I have left (Probably not but one can hope!).
