Soon to be abandoned rails in Baraga.

I put this together a little quickly as I am in a time crunch but if there are any questions or more info needed such as what the photos represent feel free to ask. I may redo it next week with more detail and some video. As far as the map goes-there are two blue spots which came out very light -the bottom blue dot is where the abandonment starts at Menge Creek rd. and it goes to the left and upward past Baraga and ends across from the cemetery, 3.9 miles.

Is the rr going to be required to remove all rails and ties? They should be. This way the property can be repurposed for recreational purposes and activities... additional snowmobile atv biking hiking etc

Thanks Nancy. Good way to document the soon to be abandoned line. The silence is appropriate but you should have added howling wind sfx to make the video more powerful and producing a lonely lost mood suitable for abandoned rail lines.

Those rails are so rusty. It is obvious that the rails have not had a wheel run over them in years. If you have the opportunity, Nancy, I will enjoy having some more information on this soon to be abandoned trackage. I presume that location with all the traffic signs belongs to a local highway department.

Actually pretty decent looking just a shame they can't get anyone to ship anything out of here. Actually I think the slideshow was more powerful in that it makes a person focus on the details. To think the Copper Country Limited used to zip a long here. I'm sure there's many sales stands along US 41 ranging from Lake Superior rocks to Homegrown produce. You can corner the market on date nails

Hi Nancy. Seems a waste of resources. In uk we going for rail as its greener rather than trucks on the highways. My home town has 2 logistical centres and a third on the way as it is in the midland region of the uk. caroline.

If there is no rail business in Baraga, sad to say, but-- why do they need the RR? If industries were viable, and used rail,than this probably would not be happening.

There is more and more interest in trains and eniough industry here but they use trucks instead and CN is not customer oriented-they don't even like to haul the local logs.

@@user-mr3ct1dm9p I put forward the speeder business idea which is so popular in many places. I take care of the Bishop Baraga Shrine which is right on the tracks. It could be a nice tourist stop with a business at each end and good for visitors and locals alike but there is no support from those who could make it happen. And actually not enough locals want to be a part of the tourist business unless they own one.
