I played Skylanders Giants and 100% it so many times with so many maxed characters. It was the first game I ever beat front to back and this was a huge nostalgia trip. The next game that affects my life as much as this game does (and more) was BOTW

Good games do that, plain and simple. Like, forget whatever hype or backlash surrounds a film/book/game around its original release, that's all just generated by marketting (which is temporally finite). The actual QUALITY of a thing is what matters in the end, hence good films/books/games stand the test of time even if they weren't hyped in their time (and vice versa, terrible movies/books/games that were hyped in their time don't stand the test of time if they weren't good).

the thing I remember about skylanders the most are these figurines that you place on the pad and play them. That was so awesome having a toy and playing it in a video game too

Looking back, I think this was the very first video game I ever played. My dad introduced it to me at a pretty young age of 6 or 7 I think, and I still have vague memories of when we played it together. Fast forward a decade or so, and video games rank among my favourite past times. I'm turning 18 tomorrow, so it was nice to reflect a bit on my childhood.

literally all they would need to do is 3 things 1 scrap the need for portal/figures and make them unlockable via grinding 2 expand the combat with more powers enemy types and villians 3 add more elements the biggest problem with the franchise is the enormous irl cost to set things up between games

I mean, many other games had more time and still couldn't release it without gamebreaking bugs, even though in some cases it was just a remake (Overwatch and WC3). For Skylanders it worked 5 times, respect for that.
