In my old shoes (Russian Pointe) I didn't use toe pads but the shoe that I'm in now (Capezio) is a bit wider so I use a thin toe pad.

To everyone who thinks Maya doesn't use toe pads, that's technically not true 😂 She's worn her first ever toe pads down to basically dust except for where there's the least pressure, so her feet are basically trained for years into this feeling of stringy "toe pads" 😂

I bought a pack of 8 socks and cut the tips off and used them as toe pads for the next 10 years. Best $10 I ever spent! 🤣 Have since switched to Perfect Pointe inserts iykyk

I used to fold over really soft ankle socks, and used the cut-off toe section to keep it in place. I have the longest big toe, and when on demi pointe/ balls of my feet, my little toes couldn't touch the floor. Before I used the sock trick, and before toe pads really existed, I had to use copius amounts of lamb's wool to pad out the negative space in my pointes. I was shown how it was all about evenly distributing the load on the toes, not just padding the big toe.

OK, so just for context, they said that she typically buys 5-6 pointe shoes every month.The average pointe shoe costs about 80-90 dollars so if we multiply 6 by 90, we would get about $540 and that’s only a single month. There are 12 months in a year, so 540×12 is $6,480 and that’s not including toe pads, toe tape, toe, separators, and Band-Aids for the blisters naming only a few necessities for pointe shoes. RIP you’re wallets 😭

Heyy so professional ballet dancer here most point shoes cost 100-200 BUT if you are dancing in a company they will buy your point shoes.hope this helps!! ❤️❤️

Im like maya. I haven’t bought new figure skates for at least a year after breaking them all the way in and losing support. Every coach has told me i need new skates and i just dont get them. I also dont wear any protection like butt pads for my higher jumps like double salcow

Maya gets through 15 to 20 shoes a month, but some are from last month. She pays $110 per pair. If she only buys 10 per month, she'll spend $13, 200 a year on just point shoes. No wonder she doesn't buy toe pads.

This is why ballet companies provide shoes for their dancers as part of their contract. Professional dancers can easily burn through that many pairs if not more a month. If you dance on dead shoes you risk injuries that can be season if not career ending, so companies really want dancers to avoid dancing on dead shoes. Also because companies buy in volume and most are non profits, the ballet company can get those shoes for less than if they just gave the dancers a shoe allowance. So it’s a win win for everyone.

Genuine question but how does one afford that? Im an engineering student and im happy to be able to afford food 😅 Because those are some insane maintenance costs for the hobby. I have a problem with my feet. My metatarsals are wide, but I have long and tapered toes. My foot profile is also quite high. It's difficult for me to find pointe shoes that work for me. Even though being and adult dancer does have its advantages. In short, my feet are wide, my toes are long and tapered, and my foot profile is high. My feet are also quite bendy. HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a personal thing. I forgot my toe pads once, back when I was still using traditional ouch pouch type pads. I tried using paper towels and I am not sure if I've ever experienced worse pain in my life. I literally found myself struggling to maintain a natural breathing pattern, and I later lost my second toe nail, though thankfully it broke behind the cuticle, so the new one just grew under the old one an I wasn't without a nail.
