For me personally Tsitsipas and Zverev have a key moment in their careers. The Grand Slam finals both where winning by 2-0 sets and they end up losing it by 2-3. Those are the breakthrough moments that for example; Alcaraz and Sinner were successful on overcoming them. I feel that we would be talking of a different Tsitsipas if he won that Roland Garros final against Djokovic.

Djokovic literally destroyed tsitsipas up and coming form with 1 match everything has gone downhill after that
@darlenecherbak40429 күн бұрын
@robertitito I think of Dimitrov, Nishikori & Raonic being called the next big 3 - then Zvervev and Tsistpas leapfrogging them - now Sinner and Alacraz doing the same. Sasha had his chance against Thiem at the US Open and I feel he's never gotten past it - kind of choked. Tsisipas is a bit too internal - now they've got passed by. Makes us appreciate even more what anomalies Rafa, Fed & Djokovic were.

I think Alcaraz is a solely underrated factor in Stef’s mentality decline. The fact that he just can’t seem to beat him (and almost gets worse with every meeting) could easily create a spiralling lack of belief. Back in 2021/2022 Stef thought himself a contender for slams, but now, I think he doesn’t believe he can actually win one and thus the motivation to try as hard just isn’t there since he’s not playing to be a tour guy winning a few titles, he’s there to live up to the hype of his youth. What I hope happens in 2025 (and what I think needs to happen) is for him to beat specifically Alcaraz in a big match, like an Australian or French Open quarter final. If he can do that, the belief that he could actually win a slam may return, since he’s beaten Sinner, Zverev, and the like before. It could be a real turning point if he can pull that off and I hope he does. I’m not even a fan of his but I hate to see the potential not live up to what it could have been!

It's still possible for Tsitsipas to change his mindset. I know people that have changed their inner programming in their late 20s. If he does that, and goes Rocky Balboa on training and upgrading his game.... I think he could be a surprise contender.

I think failing to qualify for the ATP Finals may end up being a blessing in disguise for Tsitsipas because he has more time to prepare for the upcoming season. As for coaching, he should reach out to Ivan Ljubičić, Federer's coach from 2016-22. If Stef can get just a fraction of that 2017 neo-backhand magic, he'll be a problem for the rest of the tour.

The mental/emotional aspect of player performance in tennis is by far the most important factor in separating top 100 from top 50, top 50 from top 20, 20 from 10, etc. The amount of clarity and focus a player can maintain on court is directly related to his success and Stefanos would only be the latest in a storied line of otherwise great players who have had their mental game upset by the family/coaching dynamic. These are very young men (and women) who are highly vulnerable to the kind of highly personal chaos that poor behind-the-scenes team dynamics can create. And it's inevitable that chaos will undermine a player's ability to play with the kind of relaxed focus that level of tennis requires... And he needs technique help on his slice backhand.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Stef was a diamond in the rough and a true prodigy then got polished up and was a stone's throw away from becoming no1 (abit like Ruud when he faced Alcaraz at the US open). Then that moment at the French Open. Like Zverev against Thiem. Zverev though has bounced back despite suffering a horrific potentially career ending ankle injury. He's now plateaued and is kind of resting on his laurels enjoying the life of a multi millionaire but seemingly without the drive to push himself further. He's content with being in the top 20 and having a life outside of tennis (Badosa for example coming into his life has maybe been good for his personal life but has negatively impacted his tennis). Stef can bounce back in 2025 but if he really wants to challenge the likes of Sinner and Alcaraz and have a fighting chance to win the biggest trophies he needs to seriously think of a) getting a super coach who has won grand slams and b) getting a specific coach that can help him make his backhand a real weapon on all surfaces - especially medium to fast surfaces. For the backhand only, how about Wawrinka or Gasquet when they hang up their rackets?
@twinwankel10 күн бұрын
He should have hired Fed's former coach Ivan Ljubičić to fix his backhand. Tsitsipas seems to have the same burnout that Thiem had. Both have lost their mojo. If Stef doesn't find it fast, he could see the same early retirement outcome.

For all the Hype that other ATP Tennis players get, remember that Stefanos Tsitsipas (26 years) is still much much more superior to most current NextGen athletes his age. Stef has 11 titles from 29 Finals total so far, including 4 big titles - 3 Masters 1000s & 1 Nitto ATP Finals Title. Tsitsipas has been so consistent, ending every year as Top 4 or Top 6 in the world since 2019. Career High World #3, Top 10 for 5 plus years, Top 5 for a big part of it, qualified for the ATP Finals 5 years in a row & beat all of the Big 3 plus Murray twice. In comparision 27 year old Fritz has just one big title won almost 3 years ago, Tiafoe has won nothing higher than an ATP 250, Alex de Minaur, Casper Ruud & Tommy Paul have won nothing higher than an ATP 500, Rublev has never been past the QF of a Slam - same with de Minaur... Stefanos has reached a total of 2 Grand Slam Finals, 6 Slam SFs, 8 Major QFs & 13 Slam R16s.
