Pinlock Installation - EASY!

Installing the pinlock insert onto my Shoei CW-1 high-definition yellow shield. This is the shield that fits on the Shoei Qwest and RF-1100 helmets.

+Doticaster Absolutely. Fogginess is definitely a thing of the past. But I have also noticed that at night, the pinlock kind of distorts street lights/headlights. It creates an almost twinkling effect. It's not terrible but definitely noticeable at first. I'm getting to the point where I'm not even noticing this any more.

i just ordered a new helmet that apparently comes with this, and had no idea what it was or how to install it. thanks for this video SB! now i will know what to do if i use it/install it

For cold weather riding, there is nothing better than the pinlock shield. The only downside is that it creates a little bit of glare at night with the oncoming lights. But I could deal with the glare so that I could avoided the shield fog. Good luck Outie!

The protective film on my pinlock didn't have a sticker telling me to remove the film, so I didn't, and it's like riding with your eyes squinting. And at night the street and car lights look like a fireworks display. It's only when the film started to scratch that I realized my rookie error :)

+GreenApples Great question! I should've explained. It keeps your shield from fogging up by creating an air-filled space between the shield and the pinlock insert. It is like a double panned window (if this makes sense). It actually works great!

You could've put one end under your calf if you would cross one leg over the other with alot less strain

The cams can be a real pain once they start to give a little. That's why I stopped using pin-locks. Do you usually wear a yellow visor? I tried one for a few months until I realised just how much I was missing. I'd do a ride, come back home to watch the Vlog I'd just recorded and think to myself, it wasn't that bright and colourful while I was riding, was it? Haha. Visor change. Well performed bud.

+Rob Ash This is my first Pinlock shield so we'll see how it goes. And this is also my first yellow visor. I have honestly been a little disappointed with it at night. In the day, I find myself squinting as I miss my tinted shield. Sigh...we'll see...

In the daytime, the pinlock system is amazing! At night, I find that headlights and streetlights look like twinkling stars. It is not that bad but it is definitely noticeable. I certainly have gotten used to it and feel that it is better than dealing with nighttime fogging issues.

primary function is to create a better seal around the rubber that seats against the visor when closed. secondary function is that it serves as a good lubricant for the visor hinges. neither application requires that much, so the little bottle should last a while.

I think you install it the wrong way lol The seal you took off needs to be against the visor not the other way

Well, I think you put it the wrong way. The protector film side should be oriented to the shield, not to face ...

It is not terrible and I've definitely gotten used to it, but it is still there. All in all, it was a good purchase and worth buying (for me anyway).
