This is my first pistol which I got after my daughter became a police cadet and I thought this would be a fun hobby for the family. My daughter is not a big person but she really loves the p226 because it has enough mass to counterbalance what it's throwing downrange. Anyways it's been a lot of fun and the history behind this firearm is long. I saw somebody who must have been military or something else other than my humble self Knocking down steel targets like they were going out of style. When this badass was done I asked him what the apparatus on top of his gun was and he said it was simply a Romeo one upper which he ordered directly from Sig. It's not a serial numbered piece of the gun so it simply rides in the mail. So I'm an older guy 55 plus and this red dot changed my shooting from being a once in every third shot hit on a 10-in steel target, to knocking them down most of the time at my steel range. This is equivalent to Disneyland for adults. It's not cheating it's just a bridge. I like the gun so much I ended up buying a used Scorpion version of it and had my local gunsmith change out all the springs including the firing pin and it's my most favorite gun to date. If you haven't tried shooting a pistol with a red dot and you're over 50 please do. It will make you smile. The p226 especially the scorpion speaks for itself.

Depends. I agree with ben. I have a CZ d PCR and I had to replace the sights and give a cajun trigger job. Other than that it's an awesome pistol. With my p226 that I got 6 months ago I didn't have to do anything AND I got it with night sights and SRT for $850 at Iammo. And i love it. I also didn't know that you can get mecgar 18 rounds mags that are still flush in the grip. nice. I carry my D PCR but I plan on using my p226 for run and gun. Sure there are better pistols for different ppl from a value POV p226 like I got is hard to beat. Oh and both of those pistols are sexy looking as hell.

It's not just a laser etched anchor, it's a whole package. The internal parts have a special phosphate anti corrosion finish as well as the magazines. The trigger is the old style more comfortable one (SRT sucks) and the grip screws are slotted instead of torx or allen. I also am pretty sure they use some hand selected and fitted parts because every Mk25 shoots better than a standard P-226 off the production line.

The 226 is my favorite. I have the Mk25. I prefer the old style 2 piece screw in grips better than the new e2 as shown here. It feels good but it forces my hand lower rather than higher, personally. Most people seem to prefer the smaller e2 though. Usually an easy switch if you want to.
@flyingwondercat73910 жыл бұрын
Actually, I remember reading that the *only* reason the p226 lost to the M9 was price. Otherwise they both passed the trials completely (there were 5 or so other pistols tested in the trials that failed).
@KZSoze10 жыл бұрын
Then you "read" an urban legend. There was more than one trial and the Beretta won both the USAF test, as well as the final procurement Army trials, leading to it's selection. There have even been follow up Congressional Inquiries, and examinations by the GOA. However, price was certainly a huge factor considering only the Beretta and SACO (Sig) made the cut. That said, this mythology that suggests the Sig left the Beretta in the dust, or that the Army really wanted the Sig over the Beretta is just that, a myth. You can read each test performed and each competitors function in the government and GAO archives (it's all open source information). I'm a bit perplexed how in 2015, when you can access the entire breadth of human knowledge on a cell phone, why we still perpetuate information based on simply what someone said, or what we heard.
@flyingwondercat73910 жыл бұрын
jakkd07 Where did I say it was superior in every way? Both were good in the trials and from what I have already read, it came down to the wire and the beretta won for it's total package price (the 226 base pistol was cheaper but cost more as a package with magazines and a cleaning kit added)
@KZSoze10 жыл бұрын
You said the "only" reason the Beretta won was b/c of price. You neglect to point out for example that of the two finalist (the Beretta and SACO), and the 7 categories tested, only the Beretta passed all 7 categories, whereas the SACO (Sig) failed one category outright (both in 1981 and again in the final 1984 test). Even with this failure in only 1 of 7 categories it was good enough for an overall pass, but it's worth noting none the less. Saying that the "only" reason Beretta won, is implying that the Sig would have been chosen if not for price.
@flyingwondercat73910 жыл бұрын
jakkd07 Which category did it fail in?
@KZSoze10 жыл бұрын
It failed in adverse dry conditions compared not only to the Beretta but the H&K, the S&W, and the outgoing 1911. In fact, in mud, wet and dry conditions, under "overall" performance, it performed statistically lower than any of the other competitors mentioned, scoring at 89%. Comparatively, the Beretta was 98%. Other various tests were salt water corrosion, service life, firing pin energy, and reliability. -P.28 GAO Report to Chairman, Committee on Government Operations, House of Representatives. June 1986.

Put over 5,000 rounds through it in the first 4 months without a single malfunction. 10 yrs ago I bought a G lock 27 and a few weeks ago I purchased a used Gen 3 G lock 17 to go with my Kel-Tech Sub 2000 carbine. Haven't shot it yet but I'm sure I'll like it. But the SIG is definitely built better with its full length guide rails, braided recoil spring and even the magazines have braided coil springs! Trigger pull in D/A mode is high at 12.12 pounds but that drops to 4.4 pounds in S/A mode. My SIG P226 is the LAST possession I will willingly part with.

I just took my buddy out to buy his first gun a few days ago, he picked up and fondled at least 15 different handguns (all fullsizes) and he narrowed it down to a Beretta 92X and the Sig P226 Elite, and after a bit of deliberation he decided on the Sig. I recommended the 92X over the Sig (for the low bore axis and steel frame) but he liked the ergonomics of the P226 controls more which is understandable, everyone has different hands, but at least we can rest easy knowing he chose a time and battle tested weapon. I didn't know much about the P226 before now, all I have from Sig is a P365X which is a whole different ball game than the P226. But it seems like he made a good choice from what I've seen here on YT and read on forums, I'm kind of looking forward to getting my hands on it when I take my buddy to the range after his waiting period is over. I'm also looking forward to gutting it and seeing if I can tighten up the trigger a bit, I think the hammer hooks could do with a small shave judging by the amount of trigger creep (I'm a gunsmith), like Michelangelo said, inside every shit trigger is a work of art waiting to be carved out lol.

Different guns have different roles. I conceal carry a Glock every day. Either a G43, G26, or G19. They are great guns for EDC in civilian life. I know they will fire anytime I need it, but I wouldn’t trust the polymer frames in a war setting. I would either choose a P226 or 92FS/M9 in a war setting. When I was doing combat patrols in Iraq, I beat the shit out of all three weapons I was issued. I don’t think a Glock’s frame would’ve made it through my whole tour.

@badweetabix - Challenge accepted. My gen 4 G19 has over 100K rounds with zero gun related malfunctions. Only ammo issues like primers not being properly seated, low powder loads, and NO I don't shoot reloads, I shoot all factory ammo and factory ammo is not 100% reliable. Also with our other Glocks... over 55K rounds of 10mm through my gen 4 G40, (I have to put 10mm, people think G40 is S&W) over 50K rounds through my G43, over 60K rounds through my gen 3 G21, over 23K rounds through my brother's 43X, over 31K rounds through his gen 4 G17, over 17K rounds through his gen 4 G19, over 37K rounds though my brother in law's 20 year old police gen 3 G32. All our Glocks seem to working fine with zero gun related malfunctions. Nothing against the P226, I have a 1989 West German made 226 9mm and it's one of my precious treasures. I would never ever trade my P226 for any Sig out today, especially the garbage striker Sigs coming out of New Hampshire. Let me know when your Sig P226 hits 100K rounds with no issues.

The SIG 226 is my Cadillac of handguns, it's my duty sidearm when I work armed security . Here in Arizona you can get them for around $600 with a armed guard card due to law enforcement discount .

Currently carry an E26R-9-TACOPS. Better grips and extended mag well. SRT on it is crisp and about 2 pounds. Sig night sights are very good on this firearm. TACOPS comes with 4 made in the USA 20 round magazines. Pricey but worth the expense in my opinion.
@yaahme10 жыл бұрын
Try looking into the Sig .357 cal and the 9 mm cal available barrels for the 226, they are interchangeable IF you have the .40 cal framed 226 to begin with. That way you have the pleasure of interchanging calibers as you wish with the same pistol. Again, you must have the .40 cal 226 to be able to interchange all three. You will really appreciate and like the TacOps P226 even more as I do mine.

I've dreamed of owning two pistols for a long, long time. The first is the glock 19 and the second is the sig p226. I'll be getting a glock 19 gen4 in two weeks and hopefully get the sig as an Xmas gift to myself in 2015. Edit: Won some money on a scratch ticket and bought the glock 19 last friday. LOOOVE this pistol so far. Now it's time to start saving for the Sig

Honestly this is solid handgun (obviously with military contract) but its outdated considering other lighter higher capacity options. This is what they call a safe gun meaning it sits in the safe while you run n gun other newer options out there. Grand Power has some really nice options coming out this summer, Archon and several others. Thanks for sharing.

@drewbaglin16326 жыл бұрын
They didn’t “switch”. They added it to their approved list as the MK27. They can still carry the P226 MK25 if they want. The 19 is just another weapon they may choose depending on their personal preference.
@sexyjuggalette4202476 жыл бұрын
They may be worth that price but I'm glad my hubby and I haven't paid over $550 for our three sigs. SP2022, P220, and we just got a P226 DAK in .40 that along with the HK LEM, for us, seem to be the best triggers esp for combat/defense. (P220 is DA/SA and SP2022 of course). Strangely enough the SP2022 has the nicest DA out of all our HKs, SIGS and Berettas (he loves his Beretta M9 and HKs but he is warming up to SIG very quickly)

If you are buying a used P226, there is a batch you have to be careful about, where Sig changed the rail system to try and keep it lubed better. The rail on the frame that the slide rides in will split and break off. I forget which serial numbers they are between, but Sig won't help you anymore because the guns are "too old". Just something you want to look into if you are buying a used P226.

Never used SIG's pistols, but trained with an SEAL back when I was signed up. He swore by it. I'm also unfamiliar with their variants like the 229 etc. But, I gotta say... Looks solid. I'd pick the M&P over this simply because of the way my hand rides and the ergonomics, but this looks damn reliable.

The SiG P226 is a great gun, my Dad was SWCC in the navy in the mid 90s and this was the pistol that he used. He still chooses this pistol today for his concealed carry piece.

@@charlesblackman1236 It's been a long time since I owned this gun. It was very accurate as I recall. A great looking handgun! I now own a P229 E2 in .40 caliber. Sig's are on the heavy side compared to Glock 22 in .40 caliber.

@@fjones1914 : I've never really considered any Sig's until I just start noticing the reviews and now I'm looking at the 239. I want something a little smaller and lighter. I have several guns including Glocks but my P226 Sig is my best shooter and weapon of choice for home defense. It has an Elite HP190 narrow beam light mounted on the rail and I keep it next to my bed in a SV500 speed vault. It takes less then 3 seconds to retrieve it. I don't conceal carry it but definitely my go to home defense weapon. Love it!!

In the gun community there are "Sig people" and there are "Glock people". My primary CCW is a Glock 30sf.. I freakin love Glock! But honestly, when I throw a pistol in the range bag, 8 out of 10 times I grab my Sig 226 TacOps with SRT and 4-20 round mags of 9 MikeMike!! And BTDubs.. You can practically see those SigLight night sights from 50 yards during the DAY! I've been waiting on the Sootch review of this tool for a long time and, as always, Outstanding job brother!! Now.. a moment of silent prayer for all the non-free states.
