Great video DBA, I called Hormel Foods (the makers of SPAM) and asked them how long the shelf life is on canned SPAM. They told me it has a 3 year shelf life, and after that it will start to lose it's flavor, but will still be safe to eat beyound the 3 years. (providing the cans aren't damages , and there are no bulges in the cans). Enjoyed your video, thanks for "taking one for the team". 🤠 JT

I run into that a couple of times, if its on sale be wary, the best solution to low sodium is to find low sodium items for your homemade MRE's, problem is sodium is a preservative staple. I am so glad that I found your channel, because nothing beats reasonable priced MRE's that you dictate what is in them, though in an emergency, eating is a priority even if it tastes bad unless it tastes spoiled, thing is as things go stale they also will start losing any nutritional value.

The MRE you have is the ones they make for the civilian market and they all come with 2 packs of jelly. The place I get them from she gets the boxes new straight from the company and they're better fresh and occasionally their might be a strike bar or a pound cake in them. I also find that the filling in the main meal are very samey it's just the pasta that's different . I pay $8 a pop for them and I just keep them handy for road trips etc. again good video mate 👍

You're right, it's always 2 packs of jelly, never any PB in those. The MRE PB has like, 135mg of sodium in a single 1oz packet, so not surprising they ditch those
@jameskelly168010 ай бұрын
I bought a case of those just at the beginning of the pandemic because they were the only thing available at the time and I wanted to stock up a bit. I got them and they were already a year past the 3-year "Test/Inspect" date. They had been packed in 2016 and sold in 2020. I suspect that there were an absolute TON of these out there in a warehouse somewhere because they were $35 a case. You didn't get a fluke. Mine were packed exactly the same way with 2 packs of jelly, a tootsie roll, a pop tart, and a cracker. Every meal had exactly the same side items. They probably had a warehouse full of them and needed to make up calories cheaply, so they threw in 2 packs of jelly. The pop tart and the tootsie roll in a normal MRE is put into a mylar bag. These are in regular consumer grade packaging, and they get stale a lot faster. My case had a lot of duplicates. Fortunately I got a lot of Chili Mac, which I love. Unfortunately, some of the other mains were the unpopular vegetarian menu items. All in all, this case would have been a rip off if I had bought it at full price. I was not impressed at the incredible amount of sugar, the lack of good packaging, and the lack of menu variety.

Bad example. MREs will last a long time. Problem you probably experienced is before you purchase that case it was probably not kept in optimal conditions. The lack of peanut butter is not a mistake. None of the low sodium MRE's include it. Best to just get the regular ones and get value for your money, as the reduced sodium are a bit thin and don't have the number of items a regular MRE has.
