literally every time i see a good review i don’t trust it and look to see if it says ad/sponsorship anywhere and 90% of the time it does. i’m not saying every add is untrustworthy but the way tiktok is formatted and the wa they make these tiktoks makes it seem like just some girl in her bedroom trying makeup and loving it when really it’s an ad and it feels just so deceiving

i will say- when mascara ads are on tv - most of the time there is “lash enhancement added” or “individual lashes added” listed underneath so you know the image shown isn’t JUST the mascara. I wish she had mentioned something like “this mascara looks really good with false lashes” or something to that effect.

I’m personally a brown skin girl and I usually watch brown skin beauty influencers bc of similar skin tones and the concept of colour theory etc..BUT Soph is one of the few influencers I watch bc she really is as honest as it gets and ultimately being honest gets you far, I’ve listened to her advice many a time and I don’t regret it BECAUSE she’s honest! so thank you Soph! ❤

Well done on sticking to what you believe in and having morals and care for your audience. These people forget that due to their job they are often given hundreds of products for free whilst someone who works hard like myself, will still save up and research a makeup product for hours, sometimes days to splurge on before purchasing. Knowing even after all that research it might still be money down the drain. To think people have turned to lie or exaggerate products in their own favour is not nice to know. To me, I know that some people will make something viral just to make it viral and push how 'good' it really is because we as an audience would love to believe something can make us look so flawless. I literally just came to this video after watching Steph's newest upload 🥰 I love them both! I work for a beauty brand and it happened many times that we were working with a particular influencer that didn't really love the products we wanted her to promote (i.e. they weren't suitable for her skintype) and we easly made her change the focus of her sponsorship. as you said, there are PEOPLE working behind brands that really do care and are more than happy to help :)

I really trust your opinions and the way you describe products really helps me pick and choose what I may or may not like. Even when you don’t personally like a product, I can tell if it’s something I’m interested in by your description and wear test. I’m 40 and have two young children so I have a very different lifestyle to you. I’m lucky that I only have a few fine lines (thanks to my mum who started buying me SPF to wear on my face from age 12 😊) so I know that your base recommendations generally work well on me, particularly the powders, as I have a similar skin type and I like the same look. I love the colourful looks you create but know that it’s not something that I’ll be purchasing or needing to recreate, my festival days are over 😂. I love watching it though! I don’t have the time or money to buy as much makeup as I used to- so I kind of live vicariously through you and a few other influencers! I’ve never really got into the influencer you were talking about as I’ve noticed filters, etc in the small amount of content I have seen from her. I’ve started using Wild deodorant thanks to your review, sponsorship and discount code. I’ve been unsuccessfully trying to switch to a more natural option for years with no success- to the point where I’d decided not to bother anymore. I made a spur of the moment decision when you did a sponsorship and I love it! I took a chance because I knew that you wouldn’t advertise a product you didn’t believe in; so it gives me confidence to try it as if I don’t like it I can be sure it’s due to my own personal preferences rather than it being a bad product. I love how Soph is like the only person I’ve ever seen who does that test with the makeup sprays. It’s really cool to see which ones actually set your makeup rather than someone just testing it and talking about it in a speed review type of video. And one of the other problems with TikTok and any short form reviews, it’s way to short to fully explain how a product looks and wears. Take the kvd good apple balm foundation, it might look amazing at first but every single KZbinr who tried it didn’t like it because they just saw “wow this is beautiful” but nothing about how it looked at the end of the day or even how it looked after an hour. It is really frustrating how many people and brands still try to sell mascara with false lashes though, I think the average person doesn’t have the time or skill to wear lashes so it’s super annoying to see a mascara look amazing on an ad, but when you try it it barely does anything since the ad was using falsies. Even if they do disclose that, it doesn’t do a great job at showing what the actual product is supposed to do but that’s just the short version of my thoughts on TikTok influencers and mascara And if I can offer a suggestion for a smaller and trustworthy creator, Kelly Gooch is one of my favorites for the last couple years (that sounds crazy but I’m sure I found her in 2021) she got me hooked on Sigma eyeshadows and now I have four palettes but they’re so good, no regrets here

It’s so sad because I started watching Mikayla, when she first joined TikTok and she was so genuine, and I just loved her, but now she’s completely changed 😢 I’ve been watching soph since I was 17, and now I’m 22 and I can confidently say she has never changed and she is my comfort KZbinr to watch ❤

As an Old (33) I don’t trust short form content at all… it doesn’t lend itself to details, wear tests, skin types and concerns, the whole nine. Everything feels like an ad even if it isn’t and I’m not sure sponsored content is always called out. That being said, over the last few videos you have proven yourself to be ethical and caring. Your video about skin texture hit home for so many (me included!) and will continue to do so for ages. It’s really evident how much you care for your followers and even though we have different skin types and concerns so your recommendations won’t necessarily work for me, your personality and techniques and love of makeup always have me clicking the video.
