Even eight years later, I still watch this solo and get chills. I remember when she first performed this, and I couldn’t take my eyes off her. This girl had such a beautiful gift for dance, and the amount of hard work she put in was immense. It’s such a shame that the ballet industry pushed her to need to take a break from dance for a couple years, because I really feel like she was at her peak in contemporary, and still had so much more to offer in ballet and to dance just in general. Edit: yes, I am aware that she has started dancing again and is a dance teacher now. I just miss the iconic days of her dance live streams at Varna and all the new solos!!

this costume really flatters her lines; I cannot get over how she can control her facility so impeccably that it looks like the video is in slow mo the inch by inch detail she gives each movement. Incredible. She does not look 13 yrs old!

Soooo happy she's breaking away from the cheap commercial competition dance scene. I always knew she had potential to be a great artist had she gotten serious technical training!

Claire Isabella for her that's amazing but for some people competition is all they have or that's the whole reason they have good opportunities, she had to come from somewhere, "cheap" competition dance is where the majority of people like her and famous choreographers come from and started
@trip7002

@@blamemorgansmith7826to add onto this, if it wasn’t for “cheap” competition dances most dancers would NOT be around or where they are now. Competition dance absolutely pushed the standard for average dancers.

i agree she is good at turns, but at competitions turns get boring. Turning is just one move repeated and repeated so why turn when she can do leg extensions, and she doesn't want to be known as just good at turns, sophia is probably one of the best technical dancers, so why not show ur maturity and technique as suppose to putting pretty jazz turns in your dance?

Any tips on getting my back to be more flexible? I LOVE THIS PERFORMANCE, THE END WAS BOMB
@matthewmclendon9908
@matthewmclendon9908 8 жыл бұрын
You can do a bridge and walk your hands forward until you can touch your ankles. Make sure to strengthen your back by flexing the muscles (not to hard but to the point where you feel a deeper stretch) while doing this. You can also sit in a front split or pigeon pose and wrap a blanket or piece of rope around you back leg and pull yourself back the goal being to get your head touches your leg. One more exercise that helps as well is to do a back bend against the wall and walk yourself down a bit then when you get halfway down the wall walk your feet closer to the wall the goal being to get your head to touch your legs. I hope this helps and also be sure to be safe stretching. Good luck!😁👍

+Jessie B I wasn't either so I've had to stretch myself for better technique and I'm still not that flexible but it does help when you see progress. Always make sure to focus on the muscles your stretching and be sure you're not contracting them as you stretch. And don't give up bc I know you can do it 😁

What’s the story of this perform ?
@leeelahglitz47
@leeelahglitz47 3 жыл бұрын
Sophia said on Instagram that the solo has no story. It was created in phases, so she'd meet up with her choreographer, and they'd choreograph chunks of the dance, but no real storyline was given. She said it had a meaning behind it in the beginning, but it eventually just became a piece of choreography that she performed.

Teddy Palf You're absolutely right, it's definitely part of the choreography, especially considering she's flexing instead of pointing. It's actually quite difficult to sickle your foot while flexing, especially for a trained dancer of Sophia's caliber, and to do so requires conscious intent.

@anum8199
@anum8199 8 жыл бұрын
+Cheryle Grasby They both are . Maddie and Sophia are completely different dancers and they are both prodigies in their own way. Maddie is a prodigy because she is very talented and has been in a multitude of tv shows and music videos. She has a full-time acting role in a movie and models for magazines and clothing lines , which is pretty amazing for a kid her age. Maddie IS counted as a prodigy in the entertainment industry. Sophia is a prodigy because she is amazingly flexible and broke the Guinness record for the most pirouettes . She has been in tv shows and commercials . From what I've seen so far she has great technique because of her training in ballet. As I have said , they are very different dancers. They have been trained differently but that doesn't mean the other is better or worse.

This is YAGP, a competition mainly focused on ballet. She was probably thinking about her technique, especially at this competition, more than her performance.
