Just want to say how appreciative I am that throughout this whole thing, Sophia has not once mentioned the fact that her and Robin are not even Chinese - not during the encounter nor in the explanations/discussions afterwards. It would have been easy, even instinctual, to fact check him and say "Look man, we're not even Chinese," but this is a reality that all Asian-Americans are facing right now, and I truly believe we need to support and lift each other up instead of pushing "blame"

Valerie Salcedo i understand what her message was and I am truly disappointed and disgusted that people think they can insult us by saying racist comments. However, I am referring to (time stamp 14:30) where she said “ Newport has many Trump supported and they think they are invisible “. I’m just stating that that particular comment is bias. Not all Trump supporters behave in that way nor think they are invisible. The mans behavior is wrong and it needs to stop, but please don’t put all trump supporters in his same group. I hope this explains my comment , I’m not discrediting her feels, I would be livid as well if it happened to me.

Thank you for speaking out, Sophie. The Black community deals with this on a daily basis so we know how you feel. Your experience isn’t any less than ours. I’m always amazed by the audacity of white folks who really believe that this land belongs to them. Unless you’re Native American, we’re all immigrants. Tickled to know that James Hilbrant lost his job with Prudential. ✊🏾

Honestly, appreciate you for saying that our experience isn't any less than our black friends. It's true that we don't get as much racism as our black friends, but it hurts never the less when we do get it. I've seen so many comments saying stop complaining, ur not black and black people get it worse. Not denying that at all, just sayin, we're all human and even those who get it less hurt too and want ro talk about it and shed light on it. Thank u for your comment ❤️

Just another black women popping in to say ditto. It amazes me how some white folks feel entitled to say or do whatever they please and KNOW they won’t face any consequences. Speaks to how embedded white supremacy is into the fabric of America.

WOW. I am completely stunned and sickened to my very core by what Sophia has done. A man said a few flippant, albeit stupid and racist, remarks, and she purposely sought him out, stalked him online, and publicly defamed him as a "villain" -- carrying a torch and essentially asking for his head on a stick -- to thousands of people. WOW. Sophia -- So he slapped you on the face, and you have to turn around and stab him in the gut?? Is that justice to you? Do you truly understand the implications of your actions? For his livelihood, career, his family, and their lives? For Prudential, and what a MESS you inflicted on them? Do you care at all? Or are you just so caught up in your own "victimization" that nothing else matters but lashing out? I thought you were better than this. But I guess when an angry mob cheers you on, you feel justified. 🤦

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. As Asian Americans we are both marginalized and privileged. We experience racism and our feelings around those experiences are valid. However, as Non Black PoC there are also situations when we benefit from the lightness of our skin. It's our responsibility to understand colorism and break down its complexities. Our experience does not compare to Black folx and being anti-racist is lifelong work both on and off the screen. Thank you for acknowledging that. It is fortunate that you are not hurt and that you can speak about this on social media. Don't put shame on yourself for that, keep using your voice to talk about what's important.
@Eureka21567

I disagree with your statement! Asian Americans are marginalized every single day, we usually stay quiet about it. We usually try to reason with reason and blame ourselves for being victims of racism. I was born and raised in the U.S. and I can say from experience, that the racism I faced, that my family faced, as Asian Americans has been profound. The institutional racism for all people of color is so real and I have witnessed it all. I don’t think we should compare who had the worst experiences. Racism is disgusting and wrong, period. I have been forever, negatively impacted and traumatized by the racism I experienced and still do to this day. Open you eyes and it’s all around you. #endracismforall!

In June I had my racist neighbor spit on me and my father (we’re both Korean as well) and I posted it to Instagram. It didn’t get nearly as much exposure as yours did but I hope it helps more and more people stand up for themselves. My parents are so traditional and don’t know how to stand up for themselves because they feel like they have broken English. Let’s stand up together for those without a voice, and hopefully everyone builds the courage to SPEAK UP and not stay silent. Let’s put these racists in their place.

I work in hr in ca and I'm hoping that their hr and legal counsel did a full investigation at the workplace to figure out if this man has done similar discriminatory actions towards coworkers. Seeing this brought up would have triggered an investigation at my work and if we found similar behavior with co workers that would suffice as means for termination with no severance as it goes again anti harassment and discrimination policies which are heavily protected in the state of ca. If they laid him off they either didn't find anything or didn't do an investigation and just simply laid him off to appease the public. I wouldn't be surprised if they did that to be honest as there are a ton of dishonest and unethical people in the workplace as seen from my own personal experience working at large and small companies. They also might gave just laid him off instead of termination so he can't retaliate and hire an attorney to sue the company if they don't have an arbitration agreement signed by him. Either ways this is extremely sad and I'm so glad you are using your platform to bring awareness to these issues and I'm glad there is one less racist person working at that company.

I loved my job but sometimes the clients that would come in would be rude to me and MAJORITY of them were light skinned, and blonde. Maybe they were just raised with no mannerisms?? Hm The times I would get lunch I would get looks. I definitely stood out, i knew that but I would say in the beginning I was more naive to it but started realizing people actions and stares. I no longer work there. I knew I didn’t want to stay in that environment but I did it so I could get my foot in the door. I did just that and left. OH and my brand new car that I had for a week got scratched. Why? I still have no idea because I was on street parking but just another reason I don’t feel comfortable in OC. Personally.

I really appreciate the talk that you had in this video. This is my first time watching your channel. I’m now a subscriber. I’m also very sorry you and your sister went through that horrible experience. Every form of racism is unacceptable and hurtful no matter how big or “small” it is. I do really appreciate you shining a light on what African Americans go through daily. I don’t want you to feel like your story doesn’t matter as much because the outcome didn’t end with violence.

I feel so thankful that you stood up and spoke out, as well as brought this up to your platforms. It happened to me in Canada a couple times since the pandemic and I also responded back when people did this to me. We should let these people know that their racism behaviours will bring them serious consequences and they should not attempt again next time to other people.

I’m so proud that you used your position to stand up and show that we aren’t stereotypically timid and quiet , it really paid off. Glad your physically safe , mentally hope it makes you stronger after the unpleasantries. Btw , I love your clean , bare-face look , you have beautiful skin . Simple is the best.

i'm so sorry for the experience you & your sister had. you all handled it MUCH better than i would have. when things like this happen (there are so many awful stories) i always imagine myself jumping in. no one deserves to be disrespected like that, & i'll be DAMNED if that shit happens in my presence. black folks are going thru a lot right now, but i see & hear my asian brothers & sisters while racist scapegoating weighs heavy on them during this pandemic. i'm glad you're both ok & i hope that you never have to go thru anything like that ever again. we love & support you!

I’m sorry you and Robin went through that interaction! Ever since the pandemic, racism towards Asians have been on my mind & it’s scary. I’m glad that you were strong, brave, and had the mindset to share it. You stood up for yourselves and other Asians. Hopefully people will think twice before expressing their racism.

Hey Sophie. Im so sorry you all experienced this. Thank you for shedding your light and I’m glad you and your sister are well. I just want you to know, from one black girl’s POV. Your Asian experience is still valid. Your peoples experience with racism, is still valid. Let’s not compare rather let’s just all stand together. Each experience no matter how big or small is apart of this narrative. And we can’t afford to bury any of it. Black, Asian or otherwise.

I completely understand the way you're feeling in that you think the severity of your incident will never match up to those who have suffered police brutality and other racist offenses. But you should never discredit how you are feeling because everything happens for a reason. This had to happen for you to understand what others go through and that's monumental. We stand with you Sophia, keep safe and stay well!

I saw your video on your Instagram that day and I was so upset about it. I love how you summarized what you learned from the situation such as us having the privilege to be well right now, when sometimes it would escalate into worse situations on others. Crazy how this is the world we live in..
