Paint really can make a huge difference to a room; it certainly did for your dungeon! It looks so much better now! I think after you complete everything you've got planned for it the room will be transformed enough to hold you over until a contractor can re-do the whole thing. Red accents in pictures on the wall or painting the door or frame red would go well with the grey and white.

Sophia if you want red in the laundry room a DIY using an old picture frame painted in red framing a wall clock would look cute . I'm no professional decorator by no means but I do enjoy watching informative motivational videos like yours very much . I thank you very much for sharing them with with us . Just recently I've been watching a young woman from Canada her channel is call Clutter Bug her name is Cass and she redid her unfinished laundry room . She to is doing the 30 day declutter challenge and somewhere in there I came upon her laundry room makeover it may help to give more idea options with yours . I think you should paint the ceiling white if you don't do anything else..it will make it look brighter and fresher.. a mirror or w wall stickers would be nice on the wall too...wall art...brighter color rugs, etc.. You will make nice I'm sure of that...

Job well done Sophia, it's looks so much better already. I'd definitely go with the black painted ceiling. Plain white curtains for the windows because you don't want to draw the eye to the wall with the big pipe and heater. I can't wait to see next weeks Laundry room vlog.

I don't think it looks like a dungeon anymore!!!! I would add some cute and colorful personal decorations to the walls...posters that make you laugh, let your creativity run wild...it's your work area and you would be making it the way you like it to be. Maybe some organizers from Ikea or even the dollar store...to add places to stash clothespins or coins you find. Music...essential oil diffuser...things that make you feel happy. You're inspiring me to do the same.

Some advice we were given & we found works, is to draw a fly, a small bug on the inside of your toilet with sharpe, ( you can also buy transfer stickers ) We did this in the gents in our bar & at home too, 👍 with great results. It somehow help boys young or old to aim better ( even after a few pints ) & is said to promote happiness. Certainly makes the cleaner happier. 🤗 Loving your laundry makeover, thanks for sharing.

Sophia, I would just clean up the ceiling and leave it. That's what I did, and after decluttering and painting all my walls white, the ceiling looks fine. Also I installed small curtain rods and folded white flour sack towels over them. This works out great because I just lift them off every month and launder them.

It's amazing how a little paint can make a room look sooo much better!!! What about painting the door red? That would give the room a little pop of color. Rugs to put in front of the washer and dryer with matching colors would help blend everything together and would also help to keep your feet warmer in the winter. I like the idea of painting the ceiling and pipes black. I'm looking forward to watching how it all turns out.
@margaretd41157 жыл бұрын
Well done Sophia that was a lot of work. What I admire the most in this project is that you managed to get started to improve the look of your laundry room. When it's not possible to make all of the changes you would like in an ideal world, many would give up before even starting. I think the place looks so much better already. Clean, tidy and uncluttered is great. Amazing what a lick of paint can do. And you can still have pops of red to liven it up, maybe diy some 1950s style laundry signs. The shade of red paint you have would work perfectly I think. If possible and when budget allows maybe you could concentrate on the floor prior to deciding on the ceiling. I think the ceiling is so complicated. Would some damp proofing and a super thick underlay plus an offcut remnant of linoleum be sufficient? Or would it really be essential to lay down plywood etc? It would be great if you could save on that cost. My only other suggestion is whether it may be possible to screen off your wc in some way... I don't know if your floorspace may be too tight. But if it was a possibility I would try to put some sort of separation. A screen of shower curtain or a folding screen. Or even a visual separation vis a different colour. Just an idea. However I feel a little silly to even suggest anything as I have full faith that you already know so much more than I and you will make the best decisions on how to proceed. I look forward to seeing the progress in the space. It is nice to see real world work-arounds of real world circumstances instead of everything being pinterest worthy. Xx

@californiacrafty70917 жыл бұрын
BIG improvement already! You are on the right track! A red wall would be too dark, but as others suggested, red accents with decor would give you the color you want in the room. I had a small deep red bathroom that reminded me of blood everytime I looked at it. It definitely sucked up the light and darkened the room.

Not a dungeon, but hidden paradise. What you call it is what it becomes. Hidden paradise does look more spacious. I wouldn't paint any ceiling black, myself. Too oppressive. I would just temporarily cover the machines, and stain the wooden jousts a rich mahogany. Paint the pipes with a brass or black. Match the color of the sump cover with it for cohesiveness. Incorporate it into the look of the room. I would not have had your restraint. I would have had to use my first color choice just to see how it would look! The chinaberry red might not look as bad as you might think. You are going to have the drying rack there too. The broken window would be a big mirror. Just upgrade your lighting. Just suggestions. My entire house looks worse than your laundry room ever dreamed. Can't wait to do this place up right. That's why i get so excited when you do yours! Your's always turns out so beautiful! God bless

I love the white & gray walls. Also think the black would be great for the ceiling. I would paint the floor red. Painting the cement would be much easier and you would get a little pop of color on the floor. Also think a rolling clothes rack would be good. It would give you plenty of hanging space & wouldn't have to be fixed or attached anywhere. They even come with hampers on them if you want. Anyway, I think you're doin a great job and I am really looking forward to seeing more.

I love your projects Sophia and your day in the life videos probably the best, my 12 year old son enjoys when your boys are in the videos. I like the lighter color in the laundry room. I want to be able to see up there!!
@relaxingmomentsasmr1497 жыл бұрын
Wanted to add that you don’t have to do messy spray paint, paint the ceiling with a brush and if you paint it white, it will give the feeling of lifting it up and plus as I said above spiders can’t hide up there. A dark ceiling feels heavy...it would be a lot of work though to paint it but worth it I think. However, just painting the walls will make it look so much better. You are a hard worker Sophia!

Love the paint color. Many are saying black for the ceiling but its only 6 ft 2 inches and it may make the ceiling seem lower and not as bright, but mighy make it disappear more. However painting it white might make it seem taller and would be brighter. It's a hard decision. I think I would try a small portion of the ceiling in each color before deciding. Good luck on your decision. It's going to look nicer whatever you decide.

Hi Sophia You're doing a great job like always keep it up! 😊 Have you thought of covering the toilet with a wooden box on wheels? 😁 This lady made a box from plywood has 3 walls the front and the 2 sides plus the top. She put it on wheels the inside is hollow So when she pushes it up against the basement wall it covers her two large washer and dryer. Then the top of it she places her beauty products and when she wants to wash clothes she pulls the unit away from the wall to do the laundry. Her basement is a laundry and a beauty room as well. You could do the same unit but smaller to the height of your waist. In your case you use the top to place your clothes or baskets etc..plus you won't see the toilet as you enter the room. You can make it long from the toilet to the wall where the shelves were on. The ceiling I would paint it the color of the wall gray or the white. Because the room is small and very low, the lighter paint will make it appear larger especially since there's not much light. The basement where of this building is large and the ceiling are very high but were painted a matte black. It was depressing going down to wash clothes. Finally it was painted white and you could see such an improvement. The pipes the ceiling everything blends together and it's better now. Do what makes you happy when you're doing laundry. 😊 Good Luck

The grey looks great, it brightens up the room and adds a little warmth and softness. And the white flattens the back wall. I would vote for a white or grey ceiling, to brighten and lift it up a bit, and of course hide pipes etc. When the room is done your focus wont be on the ceiling, even if it isnt flat it will fade away. If you have 2-3 focal points, like a black or copper hanging pipe to the right, a nice print to the left and a cute or focused spot lighting highlighting the good areas, thats where your eyes will go.

Take pictures of the ceiling, labeling the pipes, etc. for future reference. Pay someone to install ceiling tiles -- how much can it be? Make the area where the walls join the ceiling tiles as neat and attractive as possible by adding a strip of wood and painting it to match. Finish the area around the window and put film on it so people can use the toilet without being seen from outside the house. Make a 3-walled "bathroom" on wheels that can be pushed closer to the window wall when the toilet is not in use. It can be made of wood, plastic sheeting or fabric hanging like drapes from an aluminum tubing structure -- or just install a curtain from the ceiling in front of the toilet. Install lighting that keeps the room cheerful and allows you to really see the laundry you are washing. The room is already incredibly busy visually, so decoration should be kept to a minimum -- perhaps one quality item with colour, maybe a fabulous clock. I like clocks in laundry rooms -- I think I lose track of time there. Paint or a big sheet of Lino for the floor.
