The sewing room turned out great! The panel fabric is gorgeous with those two cabinets with the folded fabrics and quilts. The room reminds me of a quaint old seamstress’s workroom in a Parisian atelier. It’s charming. The mix of patterns and furniture styles. Perfect. You really pulled it off. Your mother will absolutely love it, it looks so comfortable to work in. It’s just the right size too. And I would not cut the panel. It’s fine hemmed the way you have it. You’ll be sorry some day if you do.

Enjoyed the makeover! My sewing space over 50 plus years has always been a work in progress. I’ve tweaked it sometimes just a bit and sometimes moved it all around. I guess I’ve found a sweet spot for each station the past few years as I haven’t moved a thing other than cleaning out more and more. The older I’ve gotten and realize my fantasy self is never going to be into knitting or scrapbooking- just sewing! Once I made the decision, it was so easy to donate all of that. Sewing brings joy and peace to my soul. Enjoy your mom! I envy you there!

I had one of those pedal sewing machines for a number of years and I loved it. I have never had an electric one that made such beautiful stitches. I don't remember what happened to it but I wish I still had it. You have a great sewing room area.

OMG, YES to “restoring” the treadle sewing machine! I bought a Franklin treadle because it reminded me of my Mom’s Singer. It works (except for me) but it’s rusted. I also have no clue how to wind the shuttle bobbin.

It’s been wonderful watching your vision develop. You are amazing . It has turned out so well. I especially liked you shining what the treadle machine can do. I learned to sew on one. My Mom was a beautiful seamstress. She made many of 0:15 my dresses and I was a chubby girl….she had to adapt the patterns to fit. When I got married and had little girls I made their clothing too. Sometime out of old things like their coats. Those 3 girls also have sewing skills. I’ve enjoyed watching your video. 🤗🪡🧵🧷✂️

When I was a child my mother had a Singer sewing machine with a treadle and I guess like you, she found it tiring to operate that treadle because when we were 5 and 6 years old she would let my brother and I operate the treadle for her. We would get down on the floor and one of us would get on the front of the machine and one would get in the back and he would push down and then I would push down and we made that machine TALK to us. We loved to see how fast we could make it go and sometimes mom had to tell us to slow down but most of the time she kept up with us pretty well. Sweet, sweet memories. BTW, I think your sewing room is gorgeous. You have an excellent blend of function and decoration. I predict that your mother is going to love it.

Sophia, this was an excellent project. The room looks amazing and is so well laid out now, plus you have definitely created more space and a cosy atmosphere for you and your mum to work on projects together. I love the new shelves, they look much better than the wire one which went all the way across the wall, and the one you installed at the bottom will be hidden with the decorative boxes, so that was well worth the strenuous effort it took to install them. Well done on using the bolt cutters. 👏👏 Also, I love the antique sewing machine and would love to see a video of you cleaning it. I am surprised at the neatness of the stitches it produces and how easy it was to direct the fabric through the needle foot. Regards the curtain, I definitely wouldn’t cut that fabric curtain panel it is too pretty, especially as you have two matching ones. Personally, if it was my space, and I know this is a lot of effort and a bit of extra cost, but I would try to buy a large piece of stiff curtain fabric that has a design with the same colour blue as your painted furniture and make a new pinch pleat curtain. It is easy to do: Simply make a folded edge all the way around the top and sides and sew them. Next attach pinch pleat curtain tape at the top (at the right height to allow the pleats when made to cover the curtain rail and almost touch the ceiling), buy some Pinch Pleat Drapery Pin Hooks to make the pencil pleats. Measure the length you want to curtain to be when hung, allowing a generous deep 3 inch double folded hem at the bottom to weight it so it hangs well and cut to length then hem. A useful trick is to sew very small metal washers at intervals matching the pencil pleats at the top in between the hem fold to add extra weight at the bottom so the pencil pleats hang right when the curtain is drawn to close. You could then use your safety pins or curtain hook to hang the curtain and hide the track.

Back in the day (late 1950s 5th through the 8th grades) all girls were required to take "Home Economics" and were taught to sew, knit and cook. There were 5 sewing machines and one treadle machine in the classroom. We were required to sew a project on the treadle machine because the teacher told us that, "in the event of a power outage we could always finish our garments on the treadle machine". I'm retired now but during my working career, I sewed many a designer garment and I can still knit up a sweater in nothing flat. I HATE cooking. (two out of three ain't bad 😉)

What a great job! A thought for your cutting mats if you don't want them on the floor or have a flat surface to store them. I utilize my wall space by using large binder clips to hold my mats then hang them on command hooks. For my larger mats, I use 2 clips spaced out, so 2 command hooks. Something similar could be done using the wire shelf. They could hang from "s" hooks or curtain ring clips.
