I find that your guiding young students, observing/hearing their challenges, to be super helpful (including Chloe & Freda). This from a retired upper elementary teacher. Thank you for all that you do (from the Pacific Northwest).

Great video thank you. Shame its hard to clearly see the cuts made but that was very informative in the way you cut the heart out of the lead, and in general shows Lead can take a lot of abuse and still be fine. My first piece was too intricate - I wasn't familiar with foil method so in the end redesigned it.

We all learn a lot from our first pieces. I remember doing a panel that was more like a mosaic in its intricacies. Never again!

I had never thought about tucking lead under another piece of lead came. Must add greatly to the strength of the piece.

Can you make a video on how to use different size came. The transition where the two meet and how to make them look right. I am having a problem with the smaller size is sitting down below the larger size came and it doesn’t flow together smoothly.

Thank you Sophie for your video ,again I have learned a little bit more, tucking the lead under the outer lead piece. I have tried before to do mitre joint not very sucessfully this looks better, do you get a lump where the lead goes under the other lead ?
@SophiesStainedGlass
@SophiesStainedGlass 3 жыл бұрын
No. The solder is by far lumpier.

Hi Sophie, thank you soooo much!!! I really enjoy and learn from your videos. I have a quick question For the framing of your project, I'm curious to know why you use a double channel lead instead of the 1 channel framing lead? Because I am using a 1 channel only and it makes it very difficult or impossible to tuck the 2 channels inside the frame. Thanks in advance for your response
@SophiesStainedGlass
@SophiesStainedGlass 2 жыл бұрын
You need a nice wide lead on the outside for 2 reason: the first reason is aesthetic; to ensure that the lead is still visible after it is bedded into the frame rebate and she second reason is practical; if your panel is a little too large, you can trim the outside chanel down for a good fit. I'm not sure what problem you are having with your H lead. You just make your panel to the size to accommodate it. I hope I have understood the gist of your questions correctly.

I must admit 'stretching the lead' by leaning backwards, bodily, in front of large plate glass windows does not look like the best idea from an H&S perspective. 😮

The interior should've been soldered and the border camed...you had BEAUTIFUL curves and borders that would've shown well if you foiled/soldered...but you covered up the majority of the the slim/slivered glass with came.

Why in the world are you putting a broken piece of glass in this?!
@SophiesStainedGlass
@SophiesStainedGlass 2 жыл бұрын
Well sometimes it's just a matter of pragmatism. I agree that it was far from ideal but the piece was decorative, not architectural so didn't need to be waterproof. We were running out of time - he'd arrived 2 hours late and I just couldn't stay with him for much longer, and he was getting quite fatigued.
