That one scene where Embarrassment hides Sadness is actually a great detail about how these emotions are used. Like, when some children grow up, they believe it's embarrassing to cry so they hide it.

I think it is certainly possible/likely for Pixar to do more. But this one worked because they took their time and made sure they had a strong story to justify making it. They shouldn't just pump out another one as quickly as possible to make a buck. More would be welcome if they can find the right story.

I love how Joy's character development remains intact from the first movie. She still dominates the other emotions but she sees their value a lot more than she did in the first movie, especially with Sadness.

I love how they depict Anxiety as an antagonist, but not a true villain. Most of her actions hurt Riley in the long run, but that's not her intention. She just wants to protect Riley like the other emotions. And we do see shortly after her introduction and towards the end how she can be a good thing in small doses. But like Joy from the first movie, she needs to learn to let go and let's the others do their thing.

At the time this movie came out I went to cinema (by myself and with basically only kids and their parents in the same room) and sitting there in the dark, with the big screen in front of me and speakers all around me, hearing rileys sense of self say "Im not good enough" and then repeating it, echoing in her entire head hit me so hard... its essentially what I believed and felt for the last 4 years and it manifests as time passes. Im not very emotionally expressive most of the time, guess my emotions are also locked into the vault, but this movie was so hard to watch and her panic attack, including the anxiety tornado in HQ, killed it so much that I felt numb watching the credits and while leaving afterwards.. Pure masterpiece by pixar

27:28 envy's purpose in this movie was to (1) know what riley wants and (2) make riley be and/or appear as a better person based on social interactions seems complex at first but totally makes sense, here's all of her times she's controlling the console: - want something other has triggered by awe (almost touching val's hair) - overrides disgust to appear polite and hospitable (eating a protein bar she hates) - accommodate peer pressure by someone of status ("oh, an exclusive invitation! we're going!") - becoming a social chameleon to match someone/a tribe ("no! we need a band they think is cool, not that we actually like!") - remind us that we want to be better (envy overrides riley's reluctance and anxiety's concern about sneaking in the office by making her feel that she needs it) envy instigates anxiety and it results to poor decision making when you have a defeatist mentality ("what do you think she's written about us?" "i don't know, do you think it's bad?!"), perfect pairing for spirals, but also a perfect pairing to build the best version of yourself (planning for the future + emulating positive traits that is good for you inspired from other people)

i watched this movie two months ago in cinema with my friends. and especially rileys panic attack hit me so hard and while i watched it i felt like i couldnt breathe. im still struggling a lot with self worth and watching this movie made me feel seen but also kinda lonely. in the movie when all those emotions hugged, it just made me sad because i might have friends but the last hug that lasted more than 5 seconds was at least 5/6 years ago (im 18). i just feel like a real hug would make me feel like im worth more because my whole teenage years, where i went through depression etc., i never got the affection i craved. and when i see other friends around me just randomly hugging, i wonder what i did wrong that no one is like this with me. i really loved this film, and when you understand what shes going through because youve been going through it yourself, its even better

I struggle with heavy anxiety, heavy depression at times and loneliness. My core emotions would be anxiety, anger, sadness and nostalgia. Everything anxiety says has been something I’ve said or gone through. I am very dramatic and people have often told me that things are not the end of the world but my instinct is to think so. What Joy says about people feeling less joy as they get older. I told my mom that recently. It was a form of enlightenment I had. I was already vibing and then Riley’s anxiety belief system said “I’m not good enough.” That hurt me so much. I was already having anxiety and then Riley started having her panic attack. It reminded me so much of my own panic attacks that as Riley was going through it, I started crying copiously and stressing out. I had a mild panic attack in my theater seat.

34:39 Such clever symbolism used here. From Riley feeling the sun shine on her, it meant that whenever in times of doubt and stress, there will always be a shining hope to help overcome it. In this case, her friends, her family, her emotions, and most importantly, believing in herself. When Riley finally knew that, instead of her emotions choosing to take over Riley, Riley actually chose to be happy, she was now controlling her own emotions and chose Joy to help her begin that shining hope. Working at a smooth, steady pace while at the same time, to keep moving forward, knowing she is never alone.

I loved Inside Out 2 so much! In my opinion, I personally enjoyed the mature story elements and message on anxiety and complicated emotions more than the first. I also liked that the characters didn't forget the lessons of the original film and have to re-learn the same thing. The growth here felt different from the growth in the first movie, and that is commendable. This is definitely a return to form for Pixar and I'm so happy that this is now the new highest grossing animated film of all time!

I saw this in theaters and I was overwhelmed of how they pulled this off. I agree of what you said about yourself, Sophie. Of all the time that I’ve seen you react to multiple movies, you’re pretty hard to please and there are times where you express yourself like all of a sudden, you’re going through the exact same things that the characters are dealing with. Furthermore, on a personal level, I hardly recall my teen years but the one thing I do remember is that I had a hard time trying to fit in with other kids prior to this. Because of that, as time went on, I and still am a solitary person that care less what people think about me and more than aware that certain topics like that are not worth the time. Therefore, although I did lots of things that I regret to this day, I wouldn’t change a single thing about me because there’s nothing wrong with who I am. When Riley’s new Sense of Self came into the picture, I felt that too because as someone who tries his hardest to prevent making mistakes nonstop, it hits deep. However, there are those who understand what I’m trying to accomplish and they help out, in their own way. P.S I too keep my phone charged all the time that I turn the low power mode on since I often use it for whatever reason. Plus, with having an iPad, even at 95%, I charge it because batteries on this device takes longer than those in iPhones.

I can imagine if there's going to be a Inside Out 3 it will be something along the lines of college, romance drama, rejection, true love etc. I just hope that they won't just rush out with the movie to make some bucks because this is a really good franchise so far both movies have been really relatable educational and emotional. If they can be sure that the story they write is good, which seems to be Pixar's intention, then I have no doubt these can contest for the best Disney/Pixar films ever

I swear, this is like the first movie in some ways. In the first movie, all Joy wanted for Riley was to be sure she was always positive and happy, no matter what, even through the darkest of times. But in the end, she finally understood what this was doing to Riley. For burying all that inner sorrow and doubt, it was destroying Riley from the ‘inside out’. She needed to embrace those emotions other than happiness. In the second movie, it was with beliefs, of what Riley thought of herself as. Only focusing on positive beliefs, because the emotions thought that that’s what made Riley feel accepted that way. Which again, was destroying her from the ‘inside out’. Because those negative beliefs are also what makes Riley Riley. It doesn’t mean that she’s a bad person. Everyone one of those beliefs makes her who she is as a human being. And other people accept those things about you, cause that’s what makes you you. Morals for both of those was so impactful and true. Never try to shadow your inner conflicts or negative beliefs with positivity. Because you won’t be hurting others if you don’t, you would hurting yourself the most. Hurting the real you that YOU are meant to be. Hiding the true definition of yourself. From the ‘inside out’. Always be true to yourself, and never try to bottles those conflicts up, embrace them and accept all your emotions and beliefs for what they can do to benefit your life.
@ZacGamer17
@ZacGamer17 15 күн бұрын
Just hearing all those voices from the belief system makes it just so relatable, all those positive and negative beliefs colliding. Which gives us more anxiety to handle. Because we want to be our best self, but it can become more nerve wrecking to handle, because then we start doubting ourselves that we’re ’not good enough’. Seeing all 9 emotions hug the belief system just brings me to tears every time. Because they are not just hugging the system but ACTUALLY all hugging Riley herself, from the ‘inside out’, saying “It’s ok. We’re all here for you, Riley. You’re never alone. Everything is going to be ok. We all love you, no matter what.”

This movie is a such a masterpiece. The way this movie shows the new emotions realistically is amazing like the Anxiety Attack. It’s so real and in theaters, I felt my heart beating with Riley’s. The quote from Joy “Maybe this is what happens when you grow up, you feel less joy” is so important because this is actually true. Further into our lives, we see more of the world and eventually at some point, we are less joyful but we eventually overcome it. When Riley apologized to her friends, I sobbed and my friends beside me were like “It’s ok. It’s just a movie.” But I AINT LISTENING. I LOVE THIS MOVIE. It's not a bad thing for Joy to be in charge of Riley's emotions. If you remember from the sneak peeks we get of her parents' minds, each of them has a primary emotion (Sadness for her mom, representing empathy, and Anger for her dad, standing for assertiveness and authority). But for the adults, the scenes in Headquarters are much more balanced, and the emotions are much more cooperative and nuanced. Joy's tendency to be the "boss" of the others seems to be indicative of Riley's immaturity, as well as her generally cheerful nature. Another detail I just thought of: In all of the adults, the emotions are sitting at the console, whereas for Riley (and all the other kids), the emotions are almost always standing.

They were obviously invited and are just commenting on something that isnt true, they didnt just appear out of nowhere only to antagonize riley and then just disappear again as if their entire lives are about her 💀 they were just confused and hurt because they know she actually does like that band and now their best friend is being distant and mean. I'd love 3 more inside out movies. One about her as a teenager, maybe falling in love if they go down that route. One about the transition from teenager to adult life (getting a job, living on your own etc. (getting in a serious relationship if they go down this route) and one about her as an old lady with the story ending at her peacefull death after a fullfilling life. Pixar is no stranger to death. And I am especialy intrigued how they would handle the emotions during Riley's final moments after having lived a good full life. Would Joy be the last emotion she feels just as she was her first? I think there is a beautifull story there potentialy. Though I dont know if they would dare go down this route. Overall there is potential for multiple movies. I do hope they make more with an adult Riley. if only because animation is NOT just for kids and audiences sometimes grow up alongside movies. Look at harry potter. The first stories are more childish then the last ones. Its ok for them to make movies that age with their audience. And it would be refershing to see a serious attempt at an animated movie thats for adults, but still child friendly. And no, child friendly does not mean you have to avoid death. Anyway, teenage years and maybe falling in love seem most likely. But I do hope we will see adult and even granny Riley stories. I'd accept comic books or shorts if movies are not in the cards.
