First Yoda, and now Mysterio (I'm re-painting an old Heroclix figure of this character for my "Fun guys and gals" collection) :-) This has just made my year complete :-) Bring it on, big fella, I'm officially now a disciple of the Church Of Sorastro's Painting :-D Your blending and colour schemes are just too beautiful for words to describe. I LOVE how you painted his "head" (I dremelled off the plastic original head on my figure, and replaced it with a clear glass marble instead, to keep the glass effect and also cut down on re-painting the awful paint job on the figure :->). His purple cloak is also amazing, as I use craft paints now to paint purple cloaks, as they have many more shades than my usual model paints, dry dead flat, and blend much easier, so I'll be following how you highlight and shade his cloak very closely for my own figure. I am moved to tears every time I see one of your tutorials, as they are just so powerful and easy to follow at the same time, that it affects me deeply every time. I just wish I had these videos over 50 years ago, when I first started painting Airfix soldiers (Using enamel/lead based paints, of all things :-D). Thank you yet again for posting such a beautiful work of art for us all to enjoy :-)

So, so good. Huge 'comic book' contrast so perfect. Q: You now prefer to start with the shade tone rather than the mid tone and then apply a shade?
@Sorastro
@Sorastro 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot Adrian! Regarding your question, it partly depends on what level of painting I'm aiming for; for a quicker, table-top standard I might throw some Shade over a mid tone (especially for more textured miniatures), whereas if I want a higher level of finish I generally like to build the tone up from the shadow tone just so I have more control. :)

Thank you! There are quite a few "paint conversion" charts floating around, as well as some apps I think that will help you find colours that match from other paint lines, or you could just use your own judgement of course. Be aware that even if you approximate the colour, the finish may be completely different (GW paints tend to be a lot more satin for example..) :)

Do you have a video on how to properly use a wet pallet? I have one from Army Painter and it seems to dry out very fast. Ironically, it also feels like I'm flooding the paper and therefore diluting my paint to a watercolor consistency.
@Sorastro
@Sorastro 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I haven't made a video for the wet palette actually but I'd be happy to give it some thought.. I've not tried the AP one so I'm not sure if I have much advice for you there, but with my Redgrass Games one I generally like to keep the surface just slightly damp (so not too wet) by dabbing it with kitchen towel before using. And if it looks like the water is drying out I'll use a pipette to add more water at the sides to keep the sponge hydrated. :)

As I learn how to paint more and more every day I still find myself making lots of mistakes and getting paint everywhere I shouldnt. When I see you painting the finer lines on the suit I cant help but ask why it is you do (what I consider) the details first, before the larger areas?
@Sorastro
@Sorastro 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I just figured that I was quite likely to hit the surrounding area when painting the fine lines on the suit, so it made sense to paint the gold/yellow areas first, then tidy up with the green after. When highlighting the green suit however, it was pretty easy to avoid the yellow details (especially as I essentially left some dark lining around all of the gold sections). :)

He mainly uses Rosemary and Co. but I also saw a Redgrass Games size 2 when he was painting the mist. Depending on where you are Rosemary and Co. can be incredibly hard to get, unfortunately. You’ll see a lot of arguments/discussions on best brushes but the standard go to brushes are R&C (usually series 8), Winsor & Newton (usually series 7), and Raphael (usually 8404). There are other good brushes as well, personally I’m using Artis Opus right now and really enjoying them. But yeah the brushes you find on Amazon are not going to be anywhere near as good.

@@Sorastro I honestly tried to follow your examples and I just could not blend the colors efficiently. Also probably just cause of my skill, but wherever I applied paint I left clear (and sloppy) lines of what that color was. So it doesn't look like it's gradually changing from one color to another, rather there are defined lines of seperation of differnet colors. I hope that makes sense. I had a little fun, but overall pretty dissapointed to say the least. Not to say that I'll quit though! 👍
