I saw this movie when it was released. Still one of my favorites ever. High-tension greatness by Friedkin and Shieder. Wow!

I love "The Wages of Fear" but this is definitely another classic. Some of the most terrifying truck driving scenes ever. And Roy Schneider at his peak.

This music....so inspiring, i found the recording, always wondered about it

For most movies of that era they'd just film a rickety bridge swinging then film the guys in the trucks and basically just project the footage of the bridge shaking in the background and create the illusion that the truck is on the bridge. It wss really something special that they actually built a giant bridge prop and rigged a whole setup to actually film a truck driving on it. No miniatures, no editing it to look like it's there even though it's not. That was just straight dedication to filming a real scene that made it believable.

Friedkin had 3 of the top movies of the 70s- exorcist, French connection, sorcerer. Pretty damn impressive. If it wasn’t for Star Wars and apocalypse now, Godfather (2) he would’ve had THE top 3.

Such a great movie! Yeah it is about as dark as a movie can be while still be a story about being human.

I'll never forgive Friedkin for not casting Steve McQueen. It's still a great film, but would have been a masterpiece with McQueen.
@sksksksl Жыл бұрын
I heard McQueen wanted Friedkin to write in a part for his wife, Ali McGraw. Friedkin felt it would not have worked and refused. That's why Roy Scheider ended up with the role. I thought Roy Scheider did a magnificent job. I saw the film when it first came out in 1977. I was blown away.

NOT AT ALL
@g.sergiusfidenas665010 ай бұрын
@@sksksksldirectors tend to dislike such a thing, actors that come as part of a package deal, probably part of the reason why Charles Bronson got relegated to certain sort of movies in the 70s, guy always had to bring his wife into the movie.
@ELHIPPO6 ай бұрын
Yeah mcqueen in PAPILLON was amazing, but Roy is amazing too in this movie
@MikeTerrell-oi5py6 ай бұрын
I think Scheider did an excellent performance...besides Friedkin probably wouldn't care about your forgiveness LOL
