I took ballet lessons inside the Song Mansion as a young girl, from about 1964 to 1971. My parents dropped me off by the property fence and I went in by myself. I never feared the dark outside or the big heavy doors. Once inside, I heard our ballet music filling the brightly lit studio which was across a huge foyer, and down 3 steps off to the left on the first floor. The whole experience instilled a solid base personality and love of dancing to the feeling of music. Oh, how I wish to see that ballet studio room again.

That is ONE TRULY AMAZING mansion!! I'm soooo glad that it's getting restored! That's excellent news!! To let that gorgeous piece of history succumb to the elements and nature would be an absolute waste - AND a crime!! I'm so into historic buildings and am a STRONG advocate for restoring old classic pieces of history!! This mansion is a precious work of art - inside and out!! So glad that the fireplaces are getting restored!! So relieved! I hope the restoration efforts continue.

Fun Fact: There is an underground tunnel under the house that leads to the Sorg Opera House in Downtown Middletown. It was used by Mr. Sorg to transport his house party guests to the opera house to watch a show in case the weather was bad.

About 20 years ago the tenants of the rental rooms of this house were kind enough to give me a tour. It was in bad shape but I was amazed that all of the grandeur was still intact.

A Maryland couple has purchased the 126-year-old Sorg Mansion and plan to renovate the historic property and move to Middletown, The Journal has learned. The mansion, located on South Main Street in the heart of the city’s historic district, was sold recently for $225,000 to Mark and Traci Barnett, who live in Baltimore, Md., according to the Butler County Auditor’s Office. Mark Barnett said he and his wife, who have purchased and renovated four homes, plan to invest another $400,000 to $500,000 to get the property “back to par,” he said... "

I took tap dancing lessons there in the early 80s. Funny that is a “legend”. Haha. I remember it well. I was so scared of the house and refused to be alone there.

Is the house merely being stabilized while it awaits a new oowner? I'd be curious as to how much it could be purchased for, as well as how much it would take to complete a proper restoration. It would make a fabulous bed & breakfast. That is frequently the best way to be able to afford houses of this size & grandeur. Far too many are lost or butchered into commercial use because of the staggering overhead required to maintain them. As a bed & breakfast, you get the best of both worlds. You can live in an otherwise unaffordable residence, as well as preserve a piece of history. It's the best of both worlds.

little jack, property tax is based on purchase price. The taxes in Ohio are not high so this would not be too high of a fee.
